She wants to eat the flesh of them, firstly she tries to eat Hansel. But she is failed because of intelligence of Gretel. Gretel attacks the witch into the oven in the first chance. Then the witch makes promise to give Gretel the magic stick and will not do bad things. Gretel brings out her brother from the chicken house where Hansel was kept. After that the witch becomes good and lives with the children. Hansel and Gretel are happy and call his father through the magic stick whenever they want.

Critical comment:

This is a short story especially for children, besides children the adults also can enjoy the story and learn. The woodcutter family was happy till his second marriage, it shows that his lack of wisdom caused him danger. He is so foolish that he abandoned his children. Hansel and Gretel have used their intelligence in trouble rather than feared the situation. They also possess love for their father.

Moral: Use your intelligence whenever you are in trouble.
