The dream of a permanent campus

DIU own campus: Dream turning into reality

It is a great news for all of us who are concerned with Daffodil International University that we are going to have our own campus soon. The campus will be at Ashulia, Savar, near the city centre, maximum half an hour journey from Dhanmondi. The site is calm and quiet, lying in a green and open atmosphere, free from humdrum city business. It will be an ideal place for an educational institution.

On 20 June 2010, an agreement was signed between Amin Mohammad Lands Development Ltd and Daffodil International University whereby DIU will buy a land of about six hundred kanthas (approximately 10 acres) from the developer. DIU will hopefully take possession of the land in a couple of years now. The down payment has also been made. It is the time to cheer. It is the time to hold our head high. With this, the university fulfills the permanent campus criterion of the University Grants Commission. It will also fulfill the long-cherished dream of the students, teachers and management of DIU for having an own campus.

It is a bold step forward in our lofty goal of being number one private university in Bangladesh. After taking possession, the campus can be designed and developed with all modern facilities of education. It will be of international standard and a unique example for the nation. This will obviously add a great plus to all our existing reputations. We will run ahead of all others. We have to make it at any cost. Of course, it is the most difficult challenge for us. But we have to accept it and become victorious. We feel really happy. All of us had a dream for a permanent campus for our dear university and the dream will turn into reality soon. Let us look forward to a prosperous future.

Permanent Campus:

Daffodil International University (DIU) has recently purchased more than 10 acres of land at Ashulia Model Town (near Uttara), Savar, Dhaka for building its permanent campus. The architectural designing of the campus is in progress.

The project, which will be in 4 phases, and when completed will have administrative blocks, assembly halls, departmental faculties and an ICT centre. The permanent campus will consist of modern facilities for lectures, meetings, group activities, student organizations, religious observances, additional lecture theatres, cafeteria and physical activity. It will also include medical facilities, state of the art IT resources, fully equipped science laboratories and performance spaces. Within five years, DIU will shift some, if not all, departments to the new location.

Currently, Daffodil International University has five (05) modern building complexes in the city of Dhaka. The facilities include academic, administrative and residential spaces for female students and faculty, a rich library with huge collection of books, e-books, journals and e-journals, computer labs, located in the heart of capital city, Dhaka (Dhanmondi). DIU is approximately 25 minutes away from the site of the permanent campus.

The site for the future campus of Daffodil International University is situated on 10+ acres in the serene, clam and quiet, lying in a green and open atmosphere free from the hustle and bustle of city life of Dhaka.  The master plan for the campus has been designed by the internationally renowned architectural firm. When built, the campus will be a world-class facility that ensures the safety, security and comfort of our community.

Three cheers to DIU!

A few days ago one of my students ask me in my class that why they did not have a permanent campus. He also said that he feels very shy when his friends ask him about his campus. I ensured him that very soon they are going to have a permanent campus. Now it is time to make this true. It is not only the dream of students, we, the teachers also want this from our heart that we will have a nice; permanent campus. Let us make this dream true as early as  possible.

We can plant sufficient number of local trees (mango, black berries, lichies, jambura, aata, jackfruit etc) in a planned way in our Ashulia campus. Planting trees is definitely a token of preservation of ecological balance. DIU should step forward to save our beloved earth as some scientists said ,in the coming 50 years, the world in which we are living will be unworthy of living because of our unconsciousness and destructive habits. We must ensure conducive atmosphere for our next generation.

The area of our permanent campus is so large. There are lot of scope to do many things. We can think about solar system. So that from this source we will get a big amount of energy resource. If it will possible to run with our internal resource, we can add and can save a big number of national energy resource. Through this way we can also help our Government too.

Like all other public universities, we can think to build a monument of our Freedom Fighters',Shahid Minar, Museum. All these are symbol of our Bengali nationalism. It will give a different flavor to the campus and uphold our culture our tradition our nationalism. This is our responsibility to let them know about our culture our tradition.

Nice to know about new land and expansion of permanent campus but can’t ignore our present position, I would say wonderful strategic location or position with purchased buildings and lands including main campus, library building, more than 70% floor of prince plaza, Hostel building, independent building with land beside sunrise plaza( near Arong). Moreover Dhanmondi lake and Jatio Sangsaad Bhavan both side that can be utilized by our students nicely if we can build a community understanding at this central part of the city or the country. There is no other private university in Bangladesh can have it!

Last semester I enjoyed outing with some of our beloved student around the campus and many of them agreed with me to feel the present location as our permanent campus by discovering social ownership from Dhanmondi Lake to Chandrima Uddan.

Hope we will grow more and more near future but can love the present situation by exploring all possibilities.

Regards,

raju
