« on: December 04, 2013, 10:56:01 AM »
The year 2013 saw more number of people newly-infected with HIV than the last year, statistics released on Sunday -- the World AIDS Day -- indicated.

Health Secretary MM Neaz Uddin said Bangladesh recorded 370 new HIV infections in 2013. There were 95 patients and deaths caused by AIDS was 82.

In 2012, the new HIV infections were 338 while the number of patients with AIDS was 103. Some 65 patients died of AIDS last year.

With the latest figure, the government recorded people living with HIV stood at 3241 since the first case was detected in 1989.

AIDS patients numbered 1,299 and 472 people died of AIDS.

However, UN estimates the number to be between 8,000 and 16,000, which means many are left undetected and untreated.

The day is being observed with the theme to achieve the 'Three Zeros' – zero new HIV infections, zero AIDS deaths and zero stigma and discrimination.

Everybody should go to reputed pathology centers for blood testing or taking any injections etc. New or ill reputed pathological centers should be avoided. They might not be too careful about the needles they are using.
