Recommendations
The recommendations for the department to improve students’ satisfaction level regarding academic quality and administrative services are stated below -
•   The department should make sure that the teachers are evaluating the exam scripts of the students fairly. Otherwise it will create a spot on the reputation of the department.

•   The teacher should give appropriate examples and illustrations to the students. It helps the students to understand a difficult topic easily.

•   The teacher should give standard books to the students which will be helpful to grasp the literature of a particular time as well as linguistic terms.

•   The teacher should follow up the improvement of the students regularly. Otherwise the weak students will remain weak forever.

•   The teachers should be responsible about maintain the counseling hour. It will help the student to know the lesson very clearly which they couldn’t understand in their class hour. It is the responsibility of a teacher to increase the consciousness about counseling hour among the students.

•   The teacher should give written comments in exam scripts. Otherwise the students will not mark their mistakes and they will not improve in their examinations.

•   The teachers should provide the up-to-date materials to the students. The world is updating day by day. For this reason the students should be updated day by day and to do this the teacher should help them.

•   The authority should give more concentration on the services of smart classroom by giving well decoration, proper sound system, IT facilities and well organized seating capacity.

•   The authority should give concentration on the services of English Language Lab. They should be focused on the quality equipment, seating capacity, resource and enough power supply.

•   The coordination office should be more helpful towards the students. They should help the students to solve their academic and administrative problems.

•   The non-teaching staff/administration should be friendlier to the students. The job of the non-teaching staff is to help students as well as teachers in the department. So they have to do their job sincerely.

•   Students are not satisfied with the attitude of the teachers to do follow up the improvement of the students. A teacher knows very well about the students’ quality and merit. It is a teacher’s responsibility to do his best to improve the quality of a weak student. To do this, the teacher should do the follow up the improvement of the students. The teachers of the Department of English are doing this fluently.

Students are not satisfied with the counseling hour of the teachers. Counseling hours help a weak student to improve. But according to the students it is visualized that an average number of teachers are sincere to maintain the counseling hour.

8 – 15% students are dissatisfied with these academic services and 28 – 32% students are neutral on these sections. Though these are sensitive issue, a clear statement is must. But these 30% students are confused about the services. If they receive these services properly then they would be able to choose a clear answer. It means that they are not familiar with these services or they are not pleased with these.

•   Students are not happy with the English Language Lab. Only 62% students are satisfied with the services of the lab. Rests of the students are not satisfied with the quality equipment, seating capacity, resource and enough power supply of the lab. 10% students are fully dissatisfied with the services of ELL and 28% are in neutral position. If these 28% students are really satisfied with ELL then they would choose the positive position. It means they are in confusion with ELL.

•   Students are not totally satisfied with the Smart Classroom. It could be an advantage of the department. Though it is not available in whole department, the students of English department of English are not familiar with this classroom very well. So the satisfaction level is poor as guessed.

•   Only 62% students believe that their capability to work in an international working environment has been improved. The rests of the students are not satisfied with the statement.  It means the environment proved by the department is not up to the mark.

About 75% - 85% students are satisfied in these sectors.
It means that the teachers are skilled so much that they are able to make the students understand the topics or the lessons very clearly, teachers are sincere to use and implement the 80 minutes’ class time properly, the teachers are honest to take all the quizzes and other examination etc.

•   Satisfaction level in an average area at teachers prepare the lesson plan clear, logical and sequential content, teachers give clear, explicit direction for the future plan, teachers suggest standard text books, teachers evaluate exam papers fairly. About 65% - 75% students are satisfied with these sectors.
It means that the lecture plans of the teachers are not clear to 25% - 35% students. Some students think that the teachers do not give direction for their future plan, they are not suggested standard text books by the teachers. It might be cause that students are not able to understand the lectures of the teachers and they are not able to perceive the direction positively.
Through these points, one alarming thing has raised that almost 30% students think that the teachers do not evaluate the exam paper properly. It is really a huge numbers. If it is true then it may create a great question on the ability of the teachers. Some research should happen to find the answer that why they are thinking like this.

•   Majority of the students are satisfied with the services of their classrooms. It gives a message that the services of the classrooms such as: seat capacity, IT facility, electric service, decoration etc. are very good. For this reason students are satisfied with this.

•   72% students are agreed that they are getting proper feedback from the teachers. Receiving feedback from teachers is encouraging for the students. If the teachers give feedback and the students can receive it with positive attitude then the future of the students will be bright. The percentage shows the sense of responsibility of the teachers to give feedback about their studies.

•   Students are not satisfied with some areas. Around 30% students agree with that the teachers do not give written comments in exam scripts. It is usual that students will make mistakes in their exam scripts. But it is the responsibility of the teachers to identify the mistakes of students and help them to correct by giving written comments in their scripts. But according to a good number of students, teachers do not give written comments in their exam scripts. It is an alarming thing for this department.

•   Some students think that the teachers do not use appropriate examples and illustrations. Examples and illustration are important to make a complex discussion simple. A teacher can make the students understand a complex topic by using a relevant example or illustrations.

A teacher knows very well about the students’ quality and merit. It is a teacher’s responsibility to do his best to improve the quality of a weak student. To do this, the teacher should do the follow up the improvement of the students. The teachers of the Department of English are doing this fluently.

Research Design and Methodology

Subjects

This study is conducted with 50 tertiary level students randomly selected from the Department of English of Daffodil International University. All the students possess Bengali as their mother language and are learning English as their foreign language.

Instruments

In order to address and explore the research question, a quantitative method including one questionnaire for the students (see Appendix) is exploited.  The questionnaire is consisted of twenty four questions which are divided into four parts such as, academic issue, infrastructure issue, attitude towards students and feelings about the study.

The first fifteen questions are positioned under academic issue. By these questions the researchers want to find out the percentage of satisfaction level of students on the role of the teachers of the department.  These questions focus on either the teachers prepare their lesson plan clear or not, either the teachers take quizzes and other examinations properly or not, either the teachers evaluate the examination scripts of the students fairly or not.

The next four questions are positioned under infrastructure issue. By these questions the researchers want to find out the percentage of satisfaction level of students on the services of infrastructures of the department. This part focuses on either the students are happy with the services of classroom, English Language Lab, smart classrooms and coordinator office room or not.

The questions number twenty and twenty one express the attitude towards student by the faculty members and by the non-teaching staff/administration. These question focuses on either the students are happy with the attitude of the faculty members as well as the non-teaching staff/administration or not.
The last three questions convey the feeling of students about their study. These question focuses on either they have received sufficient feedback on their studies or not, either their capability to work in an international working environment has been improved or not etc. It is worth mentioning that the questionnaire contains almost all sectors which are related to the satisfaction of the students.
