Bangladesh: Our Identity
« on: September 06, 2010, 02:07:17 PM »
Following the bloodstained birth of our beloved Bangladesh, the national flag of Bangladesh was adopted officially on January 17, 1972. It is based on a similar flag used during the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971. The map was later deleted from the flag by the order of General Manzur, most likely to simplify the design. A red disc is on top of the green field, offset slightly toward the hoist so that it appears centered when the flag is flying. The red disc represents the sun rising over Bengal, and also the blood of those who died for the independence of Bangladesh. The green field stands for the lushness of the land of Bangladesh; The green represents the greenery of the country, its vitality and youthfulness. The red disc is a symbol of the rising Sun of independence after the dark night of a blood-drenched struggle.Following is the flag used during liberation war.

The National Emblem of Bangladesh was adopted shortly after independence in 1971. Flag of Bangladesh has a bit modified and is being upheld with pride.

Located on the emblem is a water lily, that is bordered on two sides by rice sheaves. Above the water lilly are four stars and a three-leaf clover of tea leaves. The water lily is the country's national flower, and is representative of the many rivers that run through Bangladesh. Rice represents its presence as the staple food of Bangladesh, and for the agriculture of that nation. The four stars represent the four founding principles that were originally enshrined in the first constitution of Bangladesh in 1972: nationalism, secularism, socialism, and democracy. Following is our national monogram:
"Many thanks to Allah who gave us life after having given us death and (our) final return (on the Day of Qiyaamah (Judgement)) is to Him"
