1. Incorrect : The student rose his hand.
Correct : The student raised his hand.
Note : rise হচ্ছে intransitive verb এবং raise হচ্ছে transitive verb তাই raise এর পরে object বসবে।
2. Incorrect : Martha confessed to commit the crime.
Correct : Martha confessed to committing the crime.
Note : confessed to এর পরে verb এর ing form বসে।
3. Incorrect : My father was used to smoke.
Correct : My father was used to smoking.
Note : be/ get used to এর পরে verb এর ing form বসে।
4. Incorrect : Atik decided going with his friends.
Correct : Atik decided to go with his friends.
Note : decide এর পরে আরেকটি verb আসলে তাকে Infinitive form-এ বসতে হয়। এরকম আরো কয়েকটি verb হলো-agree, attempt, claim, demand, desire, expect, fail, forget, hesitate, hope, intend, learn, need, offer, plan, prepare, pretend, refuse, seem, strive, tend, want এবং wish.
5. Incorrect : My sister enjoys to read novels by Humayun Ahmed.
Correct : My sister enjoys reading novels by Humayun Ahmed.
Note : enjoy এর পরে আরেকটি verb আসলে তাকে gerund হিসেবে বসতে হয়।এরকম আরো কয়েকটি verb হলো-admit, appreciate, avoid, consider, delay, deny, finish, mind, miss, postpone, practice, quit, recall, report, resent, resist, resume, risk এবং suggest.
6. Incorrect : The table’s leg is broken.
Correct : The leg of the table is broken.
Note : জড়বস্তুর possessive করা যায় না।
7. Incorrect : I like Shakespeare’s tragedies who is the greatest dramatist in the world.
Correct : I like the tragedies of Shakespeare who is the greatest dramatist in the world.
Note : relative Pronoun ও তার antecedent কে পাশাপাশি বসাতে হয়।
8. Incorrect : Fifty dollars are enough for me.
Correct : Fifty dollars is enough for me.
Note : কোন নির্দিষ্ট Amount এর পরে singular verb ব্যবহার করতে হয়।
9. Incorrect : This grammar book is enough good.
Correct : This grammar book is good enough.
Note : adjective এবং adverb এর পরে enough বসে এবং noun এর পূর্বে enough বসে।
10. Incorrect : James is famous both in Bangladesh as well as in India.
Correct : James is famous both in Bangladesh and in India.
Note: both ……… and হচ্ছে correlative conjunction তাই both বসালে পরে and দিতে হয়।
