A Song of Kazi Nazrul Islam

Translated by Liza Sharmin

(Amay nohe go, valobasho shudhu, valobasho more gaan)

It’s my songs that you love
Not only my soul
Who cares to recall the wild birds?
When the songs are heard no more!

Everybody admires the beams
Who thinks for the moon?
Lyre is left on dust
When finished playing the tune.

You just can not feel
How many flames need to be burnt
To offer light to all.

Tears of the thorny creeping plants
Come out as flower
Obtaining the flower, did you ever offer
Anything to the bower?

Everybody quenches thirst with river water
Who ever thinks about the river’s thirst?
Let’s inquire to the deep Ocean of melancholy.
