Learn English - From BBC Learning English (UK)
« on: May 03, 2011, 02:05:12 PM »
Sometime our learning is not very much effective as we read that for getting grade. Even we don't feel interest in the subject. But whether we, the students of English Language and Literature, feel interest in the course related subjects or not, learning English is must. I acknowledge that there is no such a good source like books to learn something. But we, sometimes, need practical examples to learn something.

We spend a lot of time browsing the Internet, especially facebook, youtube, bolgs etc. We can learn English browsing the Internet. BBC is a great source for learning English. There are various sections such as , Grammar, Vocabulary, Pronunciation, General and Business English etc. The most interesting section that I have found is pronunciation. There are some videos which show how to pronounce English sounds; there are many examples which will make anyone clear about the differences between the sounds. (BBC pronunciation tips http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/learningenglish/grammar/pron/).

Vocabulary is another interesting section from where we can learn new vocabularies. Moreover, we can get the meanings of difficult words while reading a report. Follow the link for words in news-
http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/learningenglish/language/wordsinthenews/2011/04/110429_witn_shakespeare_page.shtml

Anyone who is interested can attend on-line quizzes. Don't get afraid…..no one is going to reduce your grade!!! Just update yourself and test your English skill……..

@ Nusrat Jahan Madam,
   Thank you....

In the web site, there are about 56 videos related to the English sounds (Short vowel, Long Vowel,   Diphthongs, Consonants voiced and voiceless etc). These videos are really superb. I am trying to follow Alex Bellem's tips to improve my pronunciation.

I hope that anyone who wants to learn correct pronunciation these videos will help him/her.

It's a good idea. BBC has got some other ways of teaching English in Bangladesh. They have BBC JANALA, MOJAY MOJAY SHEKHA. You can see in the education page of Daily Prothom Alo on saturday, monday and wednesday. They have the CD as well. It is really helpful for people who want to learn communicative English.

English is considered to be lingua franca because of its widespread influence on global arena. Very few of  our STUDENTS have ADEQUATE level of motivation to learn English. Some of them are still trying to learn English and apply it wherever needed to keep pace with the changing environment. Once they have got the confidence and the highest level of motivation to learn English, they will be on their way to learn it effectively and more successfully.

Learning English should be a part of our daily life. As Rome was not built in a day, students have to make a possible plan to manage their time and put all-out efforts to learn English.
Those who worship the natural elements enter darkness (Air, Water, Fire, etc.). Those who worship sambhuti sink deeper in darkness. [Yajurveda 40:9]; Sambhuti means created things, for example table, chair, idol, etc.
