How well students learn and whether they become independent learners is of great concern to universities abroad. Towards this aim, as you may know, DIU is planning to hold the first ever conference on teaching and learning in Bangladesh at the end of this year and an international conference at the end of 2012.

To spark foreign interest in Bangladesh prior to advertising about the international conference in 2012, the attached essay was published in the International Journal for Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in the July, 2011 issue written by Prof. Dr. Yousuf M. Islam.

Details of the Journal may be found in the link below:

The July 2011 issue of International Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (IJ-SoTL) is available free and online at http://academics.georgiasouthern.edu/ijsotl/v5n2/invited_essays/Islam/index.html
