Narrated `Abdullah:
While I was going with the Prophet (sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam) through the ruins of Medina and he was reclining on a date-palm leaf stalk, some Jews passed by. Some of them said to the others: Ask him (the Prophet) about the spirit. Some of them said that they should not ask him that question as he might give a reply which would displease them. But some of them insisted on asking, and so one of them stood up and asked, "O Abul-Qasim ! What is the spirit?" The Prophet (sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam) remained quiet. I thought he was being inspired Divinely. So I stayed till that state of the Prophet (sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam) (while being inspired) was over. The Prophet (sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam) then said, "And they ask you (O Muhammad) concerning the spirit --Say: The spirit -- its knowledge is with my Lord. And of knowledge you (mankind) have been given only a little)." (17.85)
কায়স ইবন হাফস (র)...‘আবদুল্লাহ ইবন মাস‘ঊদ (রা) থেকে বর্ণিত, তিনি বলেনঃ একবার আমি রাসূলুল্লাহ্ (সা) – এর সঙ্গে মদীনার বসতিহীন এলাকা দিয়ে চলছিলাম। তিনি একখানি খেজুরের ডালে ভর দিয়ে একদল ইয়াহুদীর কাছ দিয়ে যাচ্ছিলেন। তখন তারা একজন অন্যজনকে বলতে লাগল, ‘তাঁকে রূহ সম্পর্কে জিজ্ঞাসা কর।’ আর একজন বলল, ‘তাঁকে কোন প্রশ্ন করো না, হয়ত এমন কোন জওয়াব দিবেন যা তোমার পছন্দ করো না।’ আবার তাদের কেউ কেউ বলল, ‘তাঁকে আমরা প্রশ্ন করবই।’ তারপর তাদের মধ্য থেকে এক ব্যক্তি দাঁড়িয়ে বলল, ‘হে আবুল কাসিম রূহ কী?’ রাসূলুল্লাহ্ (সা) চুপ করে রইলেন, আমি মনে মনে বললাম, তাঁর প্রতি ওহী নাযিল হচ্ছে। তাই আমি দাঁড়িয়ে রইলাম। তারপর যখন সে অবস্থা কেটে গেল তখন তিনি বললেনঃ
“তারা তোমাকে রূহ সম্পর্কে প্রশ্ন করে। বল, রূহ আমার প্রতিপালকের আদেশঘটিত এবং তাদেরকে সামান্যই জ্ঞান দেওয়া হয়েছে।” (১৭ঃ৮৫)
