The ancient Egyptians were skilled in the art of drawing coarse filament from glass of rod made by rolling molten glass with a metal bar. These coarse filaments were use to ornamental glass vessels in the new kingdom from about 1600 B.C. They can be regarded as the first synthetic fibers made by men. At the same time The Romans perfected the art of using glass filament for decorating their glassware, vessel etc. In sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, the great Venetian glass marks mastered the art of glass filament. Thus this way, finally by the French physicist René-Antoine Ferchault de Reaumur discovered the process how to make a glass filament in 1713. We saw the application of glass filament in 1822 by Alexander and David Gordon to make incombustible lamp wicks.
