Special opportunities for Bangladeshi students

A number of universities in China’s Yunnan province have expressed keen interest in offering opportunities, including scholarships, to Bangladeshi students to study there. This was announced yesterday at a daylong ‘Yunnan Higher Educational Exhibition 2018 and International Cooperation Seminar’, organised by the Yunnan provincial department of education at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novo Theatre in the capital.

Representatives of the universities said they would offer higher education to Bangladeshi students at an affordable cost. This is also a part of the ‘One Belt One Road Initiative’ of the Chinese government, they added. Social welfare minister Rashed Khan Menon said: “Bangladesh and China have maintained close ties for a long time. China is a development partner of Bangladesh. We've exchange programmes in the field of education.”

“Bangladeshi students go to China for higher education. This initiative will help them. Bangladesh is also a part of the Chinese ‘One Belt One Road Initiative’. Representatives of 16 universities from Yunnan are present here. I thank China for extending cooperation in the field of education,” he added.

“Over 100 students go to China for higher education every year. This initiative will help such students get acquainted with the latest development in science and technology,” he noted. The minister thanked the Yunnan provincial department of education for the initiative.

The state minister for finance and planning, MA Mannan, said: “The Chinese president has taken several initiatives under the ‘One Belt One Road Initiative’. Education is one such initiative. We've a longstanding relations with China. We're building various development projects in Bangladesh with the financial support of China, which is the future world leader. I hope China will continue its cooperation in the field of education, culture and trade.”

Sun Yan, cultural counsellor of the Chinese embassy in Bangladesh, said: “The educational exchange programme between China and Bangladesh will help students of the two countries. This education expo will help Bangladeshi students to propel their careers.”

“Kunming has nice weather and a beautiful landscape. There are direct flights from Dhaka to Kunming. Bangladeshi students would love to study there and will be immensely benefited from the universities in Yunnan,” she added.

Prof. Chen Shibo, supervisor-general of the education supervision committee of Yunnan provincial government, said the Chinese government wants to promote education exchange and cooperation between Yunnan province and Bangladesh. “China and Bangladesh has long diplomatic relations. China would like to enhance the friendship between the two countries for sustainable development,” he added.

China would like to work with Bangladesh in the field of education and help Bangladeshi students, he noted.

The universities that participated in the expo were: Yunnan University, Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST), Yunnan Normal University (YNNU), Kunming Medical University, Yunnan Agricultural University (YAU) , Yunnan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (YUTCM), Yunnan Minzu University (YMU), Yunnan University of Finance and Economics (YUFE),  Southwest Forestry University (SWFU), Kunming University, Qujing Normal University (QJNU), Baoshan University, Wenshan University, Pu’er University, Kunming Metallurgy College and Yunnan Communications Vocational and Technical Collage.

Kunming Medical University  signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Dhaka Medical College, while the Yunnan University of Traditional Chinese signed a MoU with Bangabandhu University College. Southeast University signed a MoU with the Kunming University of Science and Technology for further cooperation between the educational institutions.
