Finance minister: ICT sector will get priority in the upcoming budget

In a meeting between the finance minister and BASIS Executive Council members, the BASIS delegation assured the minister that the organization would continue its cooperation with the government and its stakeholders on the journey towards building a digital Bangladesh

 
Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith has assured Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services that the ICT sector of the country would be prioritized in this year’s (FY 2018-19) Budget.

A meeting took place on Monday between the finance minister and BASIS Executive Council members.

At the meeting, several issues such as taxes, VAT on Software and IT/ITES products and services, issuing a Tax Exemption Certificate from NBR, resuming the process of EEF were discussed. BASIS emphasized on the government taking initiatives to encourage Bangladeshi organizations to use locally developed software and IT services.

The BASIS delegation assured the finance minister that the organization would continue its cooperation with the government and its stakeholders on the journey towards building a digital Bangladesh.

Finance Minister Muhith listened to BASIS proposals carefully and assured that necessary actions would be taken. He also said development in the ICT Industry of Bangladesh has set a benchmark for other countries, and BASIS has been working with the government closely during this development process.

“This year’s budget would be good for the IT industry,” the minister added.

BASIS Senior Vice President Farhana A Rahman said: “BASIS submitted important proposals to the finance minister which ICT industries and companies had been wanting to for a long time. He listened to us attentively, and we hope the results of the BASIS proposals will be reflected in the upcoming budget.”

Other members of the BASIS delegation were Shoeb Ahmed Masud, vice president (admin), Mushfiqur Rahman, vice president (finance) and directors Mustafa Rafiqul Islam and Didarul Alam. The delegation was led by Senior Vice President of BASIS Farhana A Rahman.
