An iconic figure in the country’s ICT business Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Daffodil Family and Daffodil International University achieved the country’s most prestigious Daily Star ICT Award under the category of ‘ICT Business Person of the Year-2018’. This Award was conferred him as he worked silently for the development of ICT sector since the early years of ICT’s orientation in Bangladesh. Finance Minister AMA Muhit graced the occasion as the chief guest and handed over the award to Dr. Md. Sabur Khan on November 17, 2018 at Le Méridien Dhaka. International Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister Gowher Rizvi, Managing Director of Microsoft Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, Bhutan and Laos Sonia Bashir Kabir, Brac Bank Managing Director and CEO Selim RF Hussain and BASIS President Syed Almas Kabir also accompanied with AMA  Muhith.
Dr. Sabur Khan now holds the position of director of the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA), a consortium of associations from the ICT industry around the world, and chairman of WITSA's Global Trade Committee. Under his dynamic Leadership, Daffodil International University won the “WITSA Merit Award” in 2014 and 2017 and ASOCIO Education Award in 2018.
In a reaction on receiving the ICT Business Person Award, Dr. Md. Sabur Khan thanked The Daily Star and its partners for organizing the event which honoured the icons of the digital sector. Dr. Sabur Khan was the president of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) in 2013 and he led Bangladesh Computer Samity as president in 2002.
Dr. Sabur Khan started his career as an IT entrepreneur in the very beginning of the 90s as he could foresee the booming demand for skilled IT personnel in Bangladesh and abroad.He set up Daffodil Computers, which sold computers and provided ICT training.
Dr. Khan then moved on to assembling computers, and in 1995 Daffodil  Computer’s first introduced the concept of computer superstore in Bangladesh. His Daffodil Family has gone on to establish 35 companies and was involved in more than a dozen large scale projects.
In 2002 Daffodil became the first ICT Company to get listed on both the Dhaka and Chattogram stock exchanges, a milestone Khan is proud of. “At that time it was unthinkable.”
In the same year, Khan merged his knowledge and vision with the country's orthodox education system to come up with Daffodil International University (DIU), an ICT educational institute that equips youths to become self-sufficient.
Today, Daffodil is also has footprints in the health and the e-commerce sectors.
