Women in Hospitality Industry
« on: June 20, 2019, 04:16:01 PM »
Hospitality industry is a flourishing sector in Bangladesh. As the active participation of qualified women employees is escalating gradually; they’re showing enough courage to enter this particular industry and some are leading successfully. There are internal, organizational, external or traditional barriers that hinder progress of women. The objective of this study aims to identify the existing gender barriers in this hospitality industry, to discover how successful women achieve their managerial positions and how to promote this industry as a lucrative job sector for women.

During the past decade there has been a dramatic increase in the number of women who have entered the hospitality industry in Bangladesh. The major contributing factor is the increasing amount of education women have pursued to lead independent lifestyle, to achieve social identity and to contribute in the family economically. However, research consistently indicates that women by far are the minority in top leadership positions in this sector. Although the industry is male dominant but the number of women who are both academically prepared and interested in hospitality management has increased recently, women continue to encounter gender-related obstacles to their career development. Employment is one of the areas in which these gender inequalities are more visible.
