DIU Distributes Free Laptop among Students

Nurul Islam Nahid MP, Honorable Minister, Ministry of Education, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh said that Daffodil International University (DIU) is one of the topmost Universities in Bangladesh. He was addressing as the Chief Guest of the Free DaffodilPC Laptop Distribution program at DIU Auditorium, 4/2, Sobhanbag, Mirpur Road, Dhanmondi, Dhaka, on 16th July 2011, Sunday. He urged the students to exploit and utilize all available opportunities of DIU to equip them with Information Communication Technology (ICT) skills to be developed as competent spearheads in workplaces of the country. He said that Technology has become part and parcel of modern education System. To cope up with the go of the modern era, technology is a kind of blessing that can bridge between present and future. He hoped this brave endeavor of DIU will encourage other institutions to launch this kind of initiative to help achieving the vision of Digital Bangladesh.


DIU took the “One Student: One Laptop” programme to provide an opportunity to its students to get modern education with links to other international reputed universities at home and abroad. In the aforesaid grand ceremony, the authority distributed DaffodilPC, the pioneer local brand Laptops computers, provided by the Daffodil Computers Limited (DCL), among the students as a fulfillment of prior commitment. DIU distributed free laptops to all of its students, in a bid to tie up with the government’s vigorous campaign to turn the country digital by 2021, a year coincides with 50 years of country’s birthday celebration.

Presided over by Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Daffodil International University, Mr. Nurul Islam Nahid MP, Minister for Education of the Government of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh inaugurated the Laptop Distribution Ceremony and distributed DaffodilPC Laptop among the students as the Chief Guest. Founder Vice Chancellor and Emeritus Professor of Daffodil International University graced the occasion as Special Guest. Prof. Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, Daffodil International University delivered the welcome address at the program.

It may be mentioned here that the authority of Daffodil International University has taken massive initiative of “One Student: One Laptop” program for the students which is one step a head for digital Bangladesh. Every student getting admission into Daffodil International University from Summer Semester-2010 and onward will get a DaffodilPC Laptop at free of cost. This DaffodilPC Laptop will help the students to equip themselves with proper technical knowledge so that they can survive and secure respectable place in the society. Through this initiative DIU students will get the opportunity to implement digital Bangladesh concept.

Education Minister Nurul Isam Nahid MP also said, Technology has become part and parcel for delivering and receiving education now in a days. It is very encouraging that Daffodil International University has come up with such a brave endeavor to distribute DaffodilPC free laptops to the students. He also urged to other educational institutions to follow the examples of Daffodil International University and adapt such measures so that our future generations could combine knowledge, skills and resources with the help of technology to solve problems in real life situations.
He also said, “Our government has made significant advancements for use of digital technology in different aspects of life, specially, education and administration. He appreciated Daffodil International University for playing supporting role in line with government initiatives to materialize Digital Bangladesh.


Addressing as the special guest Founder Vice Chancellor and Emeritus Professor of Daffodil International University Professor Dr. Aminul Islam said, we, at the present context of Bangladesh, are more than visionary. At the same time we want to make our ideas come true. Leaving all constraints behind, DIU is going for distributing free laptops among all our students in a time when IT backbone of the university is fully equipped with a spectrum of facilities available for students. He hoped that it will be so easy and reachable to the students to use Education ERP of DIU, Learning Feedback System (Social Web), E- Library of the university, DIU Forum and so on which have already been developed by the university.


Mr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Daffodil International University said, It was a long cherished dream  of the university authority to  implement the project “One Student-One Laptop”  with the vision of  becoming a Digital University in line with the policy of Digital Bangladesh. He also said, as an essential part and contemporary demand of modern education, DIU has focused on ICT automation facilities for students and employees since its inception. It is envisaged that DIU graduates can stand out by competing with other graduates both nationally and globally with their skill that they will acquire from this university. He wished that the initiate to provide a DaffodilPC laptop for each student free of cost will be fruitful and successful with the mission of forgoing a digital society that will ensure an ICT driven knowledge- based nation.

According to University Grants Commission (UGC) the country has 29 public universities and 54 private universities to cater higher education for few hundred thousands of students. Established in 2002, DIU has over 8,000 students studying under 18 departments. As per webometrics web ranking, DIU is placed 92nd (6th in Bangladesh, 4th among Private universities of Bangladesh) among the South Asian Universities basing on its IT pioneer-ship. Thousands of spectators enjoyed the program in and around the auditorium through LCD monitors. Score of e- & print media people covered and published/ telecasted the program in different media.
