STL, JAVA, Eclipse

I would suggest you to start playing with Eclipse (open source IDE) http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/

I would suggest you read online tutorials available at sun java website (java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/)

I believe, if you add an internet connection to your computer/laptop and start working with a project (may be relevant/ or not to your course) you will eventually find that you have become an OOP geek~ by searching and surfing!

Someother may consider the NetBeans too. Definitely you can work with STL to do better in Contests, as well as STXXL if you want to do some research with huge amount of data and external memory algorithms.

If you wish to play with parallel programming then MCSTL is another option.

Cheers!
