Usually the following terms take singular verbs

The majority believes that he is good
The committee consists of five members

The Majority/Minority + Of the +Plural count noun +Plural verb
The majority                 of the         people                believe      it

The Majority/Minority + Of the +Non-count noun +Singular verb
The majority                 of the         milk                   is               bad

Those who worship the natural elements enter darkness (Air, Water, Fire, etc.). Those who worship sambhuti sink deeper in darkness. [Yajurveda 40:9]; Sambhuti means created things, for example table, chair, idol, etc.

A (total) number of is plural
A total number of 500 people are……

The  (total) number of is singular

The total number of 500 people is……

Sub + Used to + Verb present form
He         used to              go

Sub + Get used to + Verb gerund form
He             got used to      going

Sub + Be verb + Used to + Verb gerund form
He           was            used to          going
