I would suggest you to start playing with Eclipse (open source IDE) http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/

I would suggest you read online tutorials available at sun java website (java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/)

I believe, if you add an internet connection to your computer/laptop and start working with a project (may be relevant/ or not to your course) you will eventually find that you have become an OOP geek~ by searching and surfing!

Someother may consider the NetBeans too. Definitely you can work with STL to do better in Contests, as well as STXXL if you want to do some research with huge amount of data and external memory algorithms.

If you wish to play with parallel programming then MCSTL is another option.

I have heard your name after getting admission in Daffodil International University. Our seniors always miss you & the often tell us that we missed a colorful brilliant sir. I love OOP concept. I have Eclipse & NetBeans too. Eclipse is better to me. You will be happy to know that from this semester we are learning OOP by with java.please advise us for more better.
