Tip: 3 Absorb Right one!
We are often told that talented people acquire their skill by following their "natural instincts." This sounds nice, but in fact it is baloney. All improvement is about absorbing and applying new information, and the best source of information is top performers.
Absorbing has a long tradition in art, sports, and design, where it often goes by the name of "influence." The young Steve Jobs peak the idea for the computer mouse and drop-down menus from the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center. As Pablo Picasso put it, "Good artists borrow. Great artists steal."
Look at every single performer better than you and see what they have got that you can use. Then make it your own.
Absorbing or following helps shed light on some mysterious patterns of talent -- for instance, why the younger members of musical families so often are also the most talented. The difference can be explained partly by the windshield phenomenon and partly by absorb. As they grow up, the younger kids have more access to good information. They have far more opportunity to watch their older siblings perform, to mimic, to see what works and what doesn't.
When you absorb, focus on specifics, not general impressions. Capture concrete facts: the curve of a surgeon's wrist, the exact length of time a comedian pauses before delivering the punch line.
Ask yourself:
* What, exactly, are the critical moves here?
* How do they perform those moves differently than I do?

Spend Fifteen Minutes a day Engraving the Skill on your Brain:
What's the best way to begin to learn a new skill? Is it by listening to a teacher's explanation? Reading an instructional book? Just leaping in and trying it out? Many hotbeds use an approach I call the engraving method. Basically, they watch the skill being performed, closely and with great intensity, overand over, until they build a high- definition mental blueprint.
A few years back, for the TV show 60 minutes, the tennis teacher and author Timothy Gallwey assembled a group of middle-aged people who'd never played tennis before. He gave them a brief test of ability, and then selected the woman who showed the least potential. Then, without uttering a word, Gallwey began to hit a forehand while the woman watched. He directed her attention to his feet, his grip, and the rhythm of the stroke. The woman watched intently, then began to emulate his moves. Within twenty minutes, she was hitting a shockingly decent forehand.
Another example of engraving, which involves the ears instead of the eyes, is the 'Suzuki Method' for learning music. Each day, separate from their lessons, Suzuki students listen to a menu of songs, beginning with "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" and progressing by degrees to more complex tunes. Hearing the songs over and over (and over), engraves the songs in the student's brains. The "listening practice" builds a strong, detailed mental map, a series of points from which the success or failure of each following attempt can be measured.
The key to effective engraving is to create an intense connection: to watch and listen so closely that you can imagine the feeling of performing the skill. For physical skills, project yourself inside the performer's body. Become aware of the movement, the rhythm; try to feel the interior shape of the moves. For mental skills, simulate the skill by re-creating the expert's decision patterns.
Chess players achieve this by replaying classic games, move by move, public speaker do it by regiving great speeches complete with original inflections; musicians cover their favorite songs; some writers I know achieve this effect by retyping passages verbatim from great works.

Let's start with the basics:

2. We're unsure how to develop those talents to their full potential.
For most of us, the problem revolves around one word: 'how'. How do we recognize talents in ouselves and in those near us? How do we nurture talent in its early stages? How do we gain the most progress in the least time? How do we choose between different strategies, teachers, and methods?
Tip # 1
If you were to visit a dozen talent hotbeds tomorrow, you would be struck by how much time the learners spend observing top performers. When we say 'observing', we aren't talking about passively watching. We are talking about staring - the kind of raw, unblinking, intensely absorbed gazes you see in hungry cats or newborn babies.
We each live with a 'windshield' of people in front of us; one of the keys to igniting your motivation is to fill your windshield with vivid images of your future self, and to stare at them everyday. Studies show that even a brief connection with a role model can vastly increase unconscious motivation. For example, being told that you share a birthday with a mathematician can improve the amount of effort you're willing to put into difficult math tasks by 62 percent.
Many talent hotbeds are fueled by the windshield phenomenon. In 1997, there were no South Korean golfers on the Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour. Today there are more than forty, winning one third of all events. What happened? One golfer succeeded (Se Ri Pak, who won two major tournaments in 1998), and, through her, hundreds of South Korean girls were ignited by a new vision of their future selves. As the South Korean golfer Christina Kim put it, "You say to yourself, 'If she can do it, why can't I?'"
Think of your windshield as an energy source for your brain. Use pictures (the walls of many talent hotbeds are cluttered with photos and posters of their stars) or better, video. One idea: bookmark a few Youtube videos, and watch them before you practice, or at night before you go to bed.

মস্তিষ্ক থেকে মুছে দেয়া যাবে ছোটবেলার ভয়ের স্মৃতি। যুক্তি না মানা মনের অজানা ভয়ের স্মৃতিগুলোকে মুছে ফেলার এক অভিনব উপায় খুঁজে বের করেছেন সুইজারল্যান্ডের উপসালা ইউনিভার্সিটির বিজ্ঞানীরা। খবর ইয়াহু নিউজ-এর।
বিজ্ঞানীরা তাদের গবেষণায় আবিষ্কার করেন, ভয়ের স্মৃতিগুলো মস্তিষ্কের প্রোটিনে চিরস্থায়ী ছাপ ফেলার আগেই তা ঠেকানো সম্ভব। শুধু তাই নয়, পুরোপুরি প্রতিস্থাপন করা সম্ভব ভয়ের স্মৃতিগুলো।

কম্পিউটারে ইন্টারনেট সংযোগ এবং মাল্টিমিডিয়া সফটওয়্যার হিসেবে উইন্ডোজ মিডিয়া প্লেয়ার; এ দুটি উপকরণ দিয়েই আপনি সরাসরি দেখতে পারবেন টিভি চ্যানেল কিংবা শুনতে পারবেন রেডিও। শুধু তাই নয় প্রতিষ্ঠানের কিংবা পারিবারিক যে কোনো ভিডিওকেই সরাসরি ইন্টারনেটে দেখাতে পারবেন। এর মাধ্যমে যে কোনো অডিও ও ভিডিও উৎসকেই ইন্টারনেটে সরাসরি সমপ্রচার করা সম্ভব। এতো কিছু সুবিধা সম্বলিত একটি ভিডিও সার্ভার প্রকল্প তৈরি করেছেন সালাউদ্দিন সেলিম। প্রকল্পটির নাম ‘ভিডিও স্ট্রিমিং সার্ভার’।
লাইভ ভিডিও
টিভি চ্যানেলগুলোর জন্য এটি খুবই দরকারি প্রযুক্তি। ইন্টারনেট কিংবা ফাইবার অপটিক সংযোগ আছে এমন যে কোনো স'ানেই ছোট্ট এই ডিভাইসের মাধ্যমেই সরাসরি ভিডিও পাঠানো যাবে। এতে প্রয়োজন মাত্র ১ থেকে ৩ এমবিপিএস গতির ইন্টারনেট কিংবা ইন্ট্রানেট।
এটি তৈরিতে দুটি ভিভাইস ব্যবহার করা হয়েছে। একটি ট্রান্সমিট ইউনিট এবং অন্যটি রিসিভার ইউনিট। ট্রান্সমিট ইউনিট এবং রিসিভার ইউনিট লোকাল এরিয়া নেটওয়ার্ক কিংবা ইন্টারনেটের মাধ্যমে সংযুক্ত থাকবে। ট্রান্সমিটার ইউনিটে একটি পিসিআই কার্ড রয়েছে ভিডিও উৎস সংযোগের জন্য। এতে ভিডিও ক্যামেরা সংযোগ করে দিলে নেটওয়ার্কের মাধ্যমে কনটেন্ট সরাসরি চলে আসবে রিসিভার প্রানে-। রিসিভার থেকে কম্পোজিট কিংবা এসডিআই উভয় ফর্মেটের ভিডিও সিগন্যালই বের করা যাবে এবং এ সিগন্যাল সরাসরি ভিডিও সুইচার কিংবা রাউটারে যুক্ত করে পাঠানো যাবে। এটি ‘এমপিজি-২’ সমমানের ভিডিও আউটপুট দেয় যা পরিপূর্ণ ব্রডকাস্ট কোয়ালিটি। এতে ভিডিও ক্যামেরা, ভিটিআর, স্যাটেলাইট টিভি রিসিভার, ডিভিডি প্লেয়ারসহ যে কোনো ভিডিও উৎসই ব্যবহার করা যাবে।
ওয়েবসাইটে সরাসরি টিভি
এ সার্ভারটি স্যাটেলাইট টিভি রিসিভার কিংবা যে কোনো ভিডিও উৎস থেকে নেয়া ভিডিওকে তাৎক্ষণিকভাবে ওয়েবসাইট উপযোগী করে সরাসরি ওয়েব সার্ভারে পাঠিয়ে দেবে এবং নির্ধারিত ওয়েবসাইটে গিয়ে ওই চ্যানেল দেখা যাবে। অর্থাৎ এর মাধ্যমে কেউ চাইলে স্যাটেলাইট টিভি নির্ভর না কেবল ওয়েব টিভি হিসেবেও চালাতে পারে। এর মাধ্যমে সাধারণ স্যাটেলাইট কিংবা টেরিস্টিয়াল চ্যানেলগুলোতে যেভাবে অনুষ্ঠান (সরাসরি ও রেকর্ড) পরিচালনা করা হয় তেমনভাবেই ইন্টারনেটে টিভি স্টেশন (ওয়েব টিভি) চালানো যাবে। বিভিন্ন প্রোগ্রামকে কাঙ্ক্ষিত সময়ানুযায়ী স্বয়ংক্রিয়ভাবে চালানোর ব্যবস্থা রয়েছে। ৩২ কেবিপিএস থেকে ততোধিক গতির ইন্টারনেটের মাধ্যমে দর্শক ওয়েবসাইট থেকেই টিভি দেখতে পারবেন।

আইপি টিভি
ইন্টারনেট আছে এমন যে কোনো কম্পিউটার থেকে উইন্ডোজ মিডিয়া প্লেয়ারের মাধ্যমেই সরাসরি দেখা যাবে টিভি চ্যানেল। টিভি দেখার জন্য দর্শকদের একটি নির্দিষ্ট আইপি ঠিকানা কিংবা একটা ডোমেইন নেম দিয়ে দেয়া হবে। নেটওয়ার্ক ভিডিও প্লে করতে পারে এমন যে কোনো ভিডিও প্লেয়ারে ( উইন্ডোজ মিডিয়া প্লেয়ার, রিয়েল প্লেয়ার, উইন্যাম্প) ওই ঠিকানাটি বসিয়ে দিলেই ওই টিভি চ্যানেল দেখা যাবে। ইন্টারনেট গতি যতো বেশি ছবিও ততো নিখুঁত দেখা যাবে। শুধু টিভি চ্যানেলই নয়; যে কোনো ভিডিওর উৎস ব্যবহার করেই সরাসরি সমপ্রচার করা যাবে।
আইপি রেডিও
টিভি চ্যানেলের মতো যে কোনো রেডিও চ্যানেলকেও সরাসরি আইপি রেডিওতে পরিণত করা যাবে। আবার সরাসরি ওয়েবসাইটেও রেডিও চালানো যাবে। এ ক্ষেত্রে শ্রোতাদের জন্য দিয়ে দেয়া হবে একটি নির্দিষ্ট আইপি কিংবা ডোমেইন ঠিকানা। মিডিয়া প্লেয়ার, রিয়েল প্লেয়ার কিংবা ওয়েবসাইটে গিয়েই শোনা যাবে ওই রেডিও। অনেক কম গতির ইন্টারনেট দিয়েই (১৬ কিলোবিট/সে.) শোনা যাবে রেডিও।
কিভাবে কাজ করে এটি?
এটি তিনটি ধাপে কাজ করে। এই অংশ তিনটি হলো ট্রান্সমিটার ইউনিট, কন্ট্রোল ইউনিট ও রিসিভার ইউনিট। ট্রান্সমিট ইউনিটটি ব্যবহার করা হয়েছে অডিও-ভিডিওকে সংগ্রহ করে তা সার্ভারে পাঠানোর জন্য। এতে একটি পিসিআই কার্ড রয়েছে। এ কার্ডে যে কোনো ধরনের অডিও-ভিডিওর (কম্পোজিট, ফায়ারওয়্যার) উৎস সংযোগ করে দেয়া যাবে। ট্রান্সমিটারেই রয়েছে অডিও ও ভিডিওকে সংকোচন করার জন্য বিশেষ পদ্ধতি (কম ব্যান্ডউইথে ভিডিও পাঠানো যায় এমন সুবিধা পাওয়ার জন্য একে সংকোচন করা হচ্ছে। সংকোচন করার পর ট্রান্সমিটার তা সার্ভার বরাবর পাঠিয়ে দেয়।
একটি পরিপূর্ণ স্ট্রিমিং সার্ভার
এটি একটি পরিপূর্ণ ভিডিও সার্ভার যা ট্রান্সমিটার ও ব্যবহারকারীর মাঝামাঝি অবস্থানে থেকে সবাইকে নিয়ন্ত্রণ করবে। সার্ভারটি একই সঙ্গে একই সময়ে একাধিক টিভি চ্যানেল কিংবা ইন্টারনেটে ব্রডকাস্ট করতে পারে।
এক্ষেত্রে চ্যানেল কর্তৃপক্ষ চাইলে ওয়েবসাইটে কিংবা আইপি টিভি হিসেবে বিনামূল্যে না দেখিয়ে টাকার বিনিময়েও দেখাতে পারবেন। সে ক্ষেত্রে সার্ভার থেকেই অনুমোদিত ব্যবহারকারীদের জন্য আইডি ও পাসওয়ার্ড দিয়ে দেয়া হবে। ওই আইডি ও পাসওয়ার্ডের মাধ্যমে ব্যবহাকারীরা বিশ্বের যে কোনো প্রান- থেকেই ইন্টারনেটের মাধ্যমে চ্যানেল কিংবা ভিডিও দেখতে পারবেন।
যাদের পর্যাপ্ত ইন্টারনেট ব্যান্ডউইথ কিংবা সার্ভার কোনোটাই নেই কিংবা যারা নিজেরা সার্ভার স'াপন করতে চান না তাদের ক্ষেত্রে তৃতীয় কোনো মাধ্যম/প্রতিষ্ঠান হিসেবে এটি কাজ করতে পারে। আগ্রহী টিভি চ্যানেলের প্রত্যেকের জন্য একটি করে নির্দিষ্ট আইডি ও পাসওয়ার্ড দেয়া হবে। ওই পাসওয়ার্ড ও ঠিকানা ব্যবহার করে বিশ্বের যে কোনো প্রান- থেকে ইন্টারনেটের মাধ্যমে সার্ভারে সংযুক্ত হয়ে তারা চ্যানেল প্রদর্শন করাতে পারবেন। এমনকি তারা দূরে বসেই চ্যানেল নিয়ন্ত্রণ করতে পারবেন (প্রয়োজনে চ্যানেল বন্ধ করা ও চালু করা)। একইভাবে কেউ ব্যক্তিগত ভিডিও (পারিবারিক অনুষ্ঠানের দৃশ্য) সরাসরি দূর-দূরানে- থাকা আত্মীয়-স্বজনদেরও দেখাতে পারবেন। একইভাবে বিভিন্ন প্রতিষ্ঠানের দূর-দূরানে-র শাখাগুলোর মধ্যে সরাসরি লাইভ কনফারেন্সিংও করা সম্ভব।
ভার্চুয়াল ইউনিভার্সিটি হিসেবেও ব্যবহার করা যাবে এটিকে। দূর-দূরান্তে থাকা শিক্ষার্থীরা তাদের ঘরে বসেই ক্লাস করতে পারবে, ডিসকাশন করতে পারবেন সরাসরি।
প্রত্যেকটি টিভি স্যাটেলাইটের একটি নিজস্ব সীমানা থাকে। যার বাইরে ই"ছা করলেই চ্যানেল প্রদর্শন করানো সম্ভব নয়। তাই একটি টিভি চ্যানেলকে বিশ্বব্যাপী প্রদর্শন করাতে চাইলে একাধিক স্যাটেলাইটের শরণাপন্ন হতে হয়। কিনা এ পদ্ধতিতে ইন্টারনেটের মাধ্যমে কাঙ্ক্ষিত চ্যানেল ডাউনলিঙ্ক করে লোকালি পরিবেশন করা সম্ভব।
আমাদের দেশে এমন কয়েকটি টিভি চ্যানেল আছে যারা আমেরিকা, সিঙ্গাপুর ও ইংল্যান্ড ভিত্তিক টিভি চ্যানেল হিসেবে পরিচিত। ওইসব চ্যানেলে এ ভিডিও সার্ভারটি ব্যবহার করে বাংলাদেশ থেকেই দূর দেশে লাইভ ভিডিও, খবর প্রভৃতি প্রদর্শন করানো সম্ভব।
প্রযুক্তির নাম মাল্টিকাস্ট
মাল্টিকাস্টিং হলো এমন একটা পদ্ধতি যা ডাটা পাঠানোর সময় একটি সিঙ্গেল ভিডিওকেই নির্দিষ্ট ব্যান্ডউইথ ব্যবহার করে সবার মধ্যে পরিপূর্ণভাবে ভাগ করে দেয়। এর ফলে ভিডিও পাঠানোর জন্য সার্ভারের কম ব্যান্ডউইথ প্রয়োজন হয়। মাল্টিকাস্ট সুবিধা থাকাতে একই সঙ্গে একাধিক দর্শক উপভোগ করতে পারবে।
নেপথ্যে
বেশ কিছু দিন আগে ইউনিভার্সিটির থিসিসের বিষয় হিসেবে ‘আইপি টিভি’কে প্রজেক্ট হিসেবে নেন সালাউদ্দিন সেলিম। পরবর্তীতে টিভি চ্যানেলে পেশাগতভাবে নিযুক্ত হয়ে বোধ করেন চ্যানেলের জন্য দরকারি প্রযুক্তিগুলোর অভাব। প্রকল্পটি নিয়ে কাজ করতে গিয়ে অনুধাবন করেন এর ব্যাপ্তি। বিশেষ করে নেটওয়ার্ক ব্রডকাস্ট ও লাইভ ব্রডকাস্টিংয়ের ক্ষেত্রে রয়েছে অনেক দুর্বলতা। এ প্রসঙ্গে সালাউদ্দিন সেলিম বলেন, “বিশ্বের প্রত্যেকটি টিভি চ্যানেলের জন্যই নেটওয়ার্ক ও ইন্টারনেট ভিত্তিক ব্রডকাস্টিং একটি অতি দরকারি প্রযুক্তি। তাই খুঁজতে থাকলাম কম খরচে প্রয়োজনীয় এসব প্রযুক্তির মানসম্পন্ন উন্নয়ন করার। ‘ভিডিও স্ট্রিমিং সার্ভার’ ব্যবহার করে এসব সমস্যার অনেকটাই লাঘব করা সম্ভব।â€

লাইভ ভিডিও
টিভি চ্যানেলগুলোর জন্য এটি খুবই দরকারি প্রযুক্তি। ইন্টারনেট কিংবা ফাইবার অপটিক সংযোগ আছে এমন যে কোনো স'ানেই ছোট্ট এই ডিভাইসের মাধ্যমেই সরাসরি ভিডিও পাঠানো যাবে। এতে প্রয়োজন মাত্র ১ থেকে ৩ এমবিপিএস গতির ইন্টারনেট কিংবা ইন্ট্রানেট।
এটি তৈরিতে দুটি ভিভাইস ব্যবহার করা হয়েছে। একটি ট্রান্সমিট ইউনিট এবং অন্যটি রিসিভার ইউনিট। ট্রান্সমিট ইউনিট এবং রিসিভার ইউনিট লোকাল এরিয়া নেটওয়ার্ক কিংবা ইন্টারনেটের মাধ্যমে সংযুক্ত থাকবে। ট্রান্সমিটার ইউনিটে একটি পিসিআই কার্ড রয়েছে ভিডিও উৎস সংযোগের জন্য। এতে ভিডিও ক্যামেরা সংযোগ করে দিলে নেটওয়ার্কের মাধ্যমে কনটেন্ট সরাসরি চলে আসবে রিসিভার প্রানে-। রিসিভার থেকে কম্পোজিট কিংবা এসডিআই উভয় ফর্মেটের ভিডিও সিগন্যালই বের করা যাবে এবং এ সিগন্যাল সরাসরি ভিডিও সুইচার কিংবা রাউটারে যুক্ত করে পাঠানো যাবে। এটি ‘এমপিজি-২’ সমমানের ভিডিও আউটপুট দেয় যা পরিপূর্ণ ব্রডকাস্ট কোয়ালিটি। এতে ভিডিও ক্যামেরা, ভিটিআর, স্যাটেলাইট টিভি রিসিভার, ডিভিডি প্লেয়ারসহ যে কোনো ভিডিও উৎসই ব্যবহার করা যাবে।
ওয়েবসাইটে সরাসরি টিভি
এ সার্ভারটি স্যাটেলাইট টিভি রিসিভার কিংবা যে কোনো ভিডিও উৎস থেকে নেয়া ভিডিওকে তাৎক্ষণিকভাবে ওয়েবসাইট উপযোগী করে সরাসরি ওয়েব সার্ভারে পাঠিয়ে দেবে এবং নির্ধারিত ওয়েবসাইটে গিয়ে ওই চ্যানেল দেখা যাবে। অর্থাৎ এর মাধ্যমে কেউ চাইলে স্যাটেলাইট টিভি নির্ভর না কেবল ওয়েব টিভি হিসেবেও চালাতে পারে। এর মাধ্যমে সাধারণ স্যাটেলাইট কিংবা টেরিস্টিয়াল চ্যানেলগুলোতে যেভাবে অনুষ্ঠান (সরাসরি ও রেকর্ড) পরিচালনা করা হয় তেমনভাবেই ইন্টারনেটে টিভি স্টেশন (ওয়েব টিভি) চালানো যাবে। বিভিন্ন প্রোগ্রামকে কাঙ্ক্ষিত সময়ানুযায়ী স্বয়ংক্রিয়ভাবে চালানোর ব্যবস্থা রয়েছে। ৩২ কেবিপিএস থেকে ততোধিক গতির ইন্টারনেটের মাধ্যমে দর্শক ওয়েবসাইট থেকেই টিভি দেখতে পারবেন।

আইপি টিভি
ইন্টারনেট আছে এমন যে কোনো কম্পিউটার থেকে উইন্ডোজ মিডিয়া প্লেয়ারের মাধ্যমেই সরাসরি দেখা যাবে টিভি চ্যানেল। টিভি দেখার জন্য দর্শকদের একটি নির্দিষ্ট আইপি ঠিকানা কিংবা একটা ডোমেইন নেম দিয়ে দেয়া হবে। নেটওয়ার্ক ভিডিও প্লে করতে পারে এমন যে কোনো ভিডিও প্লেয়ারে ( উইন্ডোজ মিডিয়া প্লেয়ার, রিয়েল প্লেয়ার, উইন্যাম্প) ওই ঠিকানাটি বসিয়ে দিলেই ওই টিভি চ্যানেল দেখা যাবে। ইন্টারনেট গতি যতো বেশি ছবিও ততো নিখুঁত দেখা যাবে। শুধু টিভি চ্যানেলই নয়; যে কোনো ভিডিওর উৎস ব্যবহার করেই সরাসরি সমপ্রচার করা যাবে।
আইপি রেডিও
টিভি চ্যানেলের মতো যে কোনো রেডিও চ্যানেলকেও সরাসরি আইপি রেডিওতে পরিণত করা যাবে। আবার সরাসরি ওয়েবসাইটেও রেডিও চালানো যাবে। এ ক্ষেত্রে শ্রোতাদের জন্য দিয়ে দেয়া হবে একটি নির্দিষ্ট আইপি কিংবা ডোমেইন ঠিকানা। মিডিয়া প্লেয়ার, রিয়েল প্লেয়ার কিংবা ওয়েবসাইটে গিয়েই শোনা যাবে ওই রেডিও। অনেক কম গতির ইন্টারনেট দিয়েই (১৬ কিলোবিট/সে.) শোনা যাবে রেডিও।
কিভাবে কাজ করে এটি?
এটি তিনটি ধাপে কাজ করে। এই অংশ তিনটি হলো ট্রান্সমিটার ইউনিট, কন্ট্রোল ইউনিট ও রিসিভার ইউনিট। ট্রান্সমিট ইউনিটটি ব্যবহার করা হয়েছে অডিও-ভিডিওকে সংগ্রহ করে তা সার্ভারে পাঠানোর জন্য। এতে একটি পিসিআই কার্ড রয়েছে। এ কার্ডে যে কোনো ধরনের অডিও-ভিডিওর (কম্পোজিট, ফায়ারওয়্যার) উৎস সংযোগ করে দেয়া যাবে। ট্রান্সমিটারেই রয়েছে অডিও ও ভিডিওকে সংকোচন করার জন্য বিশেষ পদ্ধতি (কম ব্যান্ডউইথে ভিডিও পাঠানো যায় এমন সুবিধা পাওয়ার জন্য একে সংকোচন করা হচ্ছে। সংকোচন করার পর ট্রান্সমিটার তা সার্ভার বরাবর পাঠিয়ে দেয়।
একটি পরিপূর্ণ স্ট্রিমিং সার্ভার
এটি একটি পরিপূর্ণ ভিডিও সার্ভার যা ট্রান্সমিটার ও ব্যবহারকারীর মাঝামাঝি অবস্থানে থেকে সবাইকে নিয়ন্ত্রণ করবে। সার্ভারটি একই সঙ্গে একই সময়ে একাধিক টিভি চ্যানেল কিংবা ইন্টারনেটে ব্রডকাস্ট করতে পারে।
এক্ষেত্রে চ্যানেল কর্তৃপক্ষ চাইলে ওয়েবসাইটে কিংবা আইপি টিভি হিসেবে বিনামূল্যে না দেখিয়ে টাকার বিনিময়েও দেখাতে পারবেন। সে ক্ষেত্রে সার্ভার থেকেই অনুমোদিত ব্যবহারকারীদের জন্য আইডি ও পাসওয়ার্ড দিয়ে দেয়া হবে। ওই আইডি ও পাসওয়ার্ডের মাধ্যমে ব্যবহাকারীরা বিশ্বের যে কোনো প্রান- থেকেই ইন্টারনেটের মাধ্যমে চ্যানেল কিংবা ভিডিও দেখতে পারবেন।
যাদের পর্যাপ্ত ইন্টারনেট ব্যান্ডউইথ কিংবা সার্ভার কোনোটাই নেই কিংবা যারা নিজেরা সার্ভার স'াপন করতে চান না তাদের ক্ষেত্রে তৃতীয় কোনো মাধ্যম/প্রতিষ্ঠান হিসেবে এটি কাজ করতে পারে। আগ্রহী টিভি চ্যানেলের প্রত্যেকের জন্য একটি করে নির্দিষ্ট আইডি ও পাসওয়ার্ড দেয়া হবে। ওই পাসওয়ার্ড ও ঠিকানা ব্যবহার করে বিশ্বের যে কোনো প্রান- থেকে ইন্টারনেটের মাধ্যমে সার্ভারে সংযুক্ত হয়ে তারা চ্যানেল প্রদর্শন করাতে পারবেন। এমনকি তারা দূরে বসেই চ্যানেল নিয়ন্ত্রণ করতে পারবেন (প্রয়োজনে চ্যানেল বন্ধ করা ও চালু করা)। একইভাবে কেউ ব্যক্তিগত ভিডিও (পারিবারিক অনুষ্ঠানের দৃশ্য) সরাসরি দূর-দূরানে- থাকা আত্মীয়-স্বজনদেরও দেখাতে পারবেন। একইভাবে বিভিন্ন প্রতিষ্ঠানের দূর-দূরানে-র শাখাগুলোর মধ্যে সরাসরি লাইভ কনফারেন্সিংও করা সম্ভব।
ভার্চুয়াল ইউনিভার্সিটি হিসেবেও ব্যবহার করা যাবে এটিকে। দূর-দূরান্তে থাকা শিক্ষার্থীরা তাদের ঘরে বসেই ক্লাস করতে পারবে, ডিসকাশন করতে পারবেন সরাসরি।
প্রত্যেকটি টিভি স্যাটেলাইটের একটি নিজস্ব সীমানা থাকে। যার বাইরে ই"ছা করলেই চ্যানেল প্রদর্শন করানো সম্ভব নয়। তাই একটি টিভি চ্যানেলকে বিশ্বব্যাপী প্রদর্শন করাতে চাইলে একাধিক স্যাটেলাইটের শরণাপন্ন হতে হয়। কিনা এ পদ্ধতিতে ইন্টারনেটের মাধ্যমে কাঙ্ক্ষিত চ্যানেল ডাউনলিঙ্ক করে লোকালি পরিবেশন করা সম্ভব।

Career Opportunity / Endless possibilities in call centre and outsourcing industry

The Independent: What are the objectives that you set for establishing, Bangladesh Association of Call Centre and Outsourcing, BACCO?
Ahmadul Hoq: Previously I was involved with running and off shoring call centres in countries like India, South America and UK. You may know that some of those countries have turned the call centre business into a mainstream industry and continuously contributing to their economy.
Then I came back to Bangladesh and at first I wanted to get permission for (VoIP) Voice over Internet Protocol from, BTRC, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission. During my first endeavour nobody laid much importance on the subject and laws and regulation were tangled with bureaucratic bottleneck that was against the needed business atmosphere. I found some newly built call centres are facing loss because they didn’t know how to run the business and they were lagging behind due to lack of professionalism. Unfortunately they received very little support from the government and other institutions.
Therefore, I convened the trade body with the aim of brining call centres businessmen under an umbrella. Like other trade bodies we are not providing businesses to the members but we are uniting them to project their needs to the policy makers.
The Independent: What are the possibilities you are looking at regarding outsourcing?
Ahmadul Hoq: America alone has over US 500 billion dollar worth of pent up demand that needs to be outsourced. Already 35 per cent has been off shored to countries like India, Philippine, Sri Lanka, South Africa; the government in those countries and others with partnership with private sector is making it a national priority in bringing these works to their countries to create jobs for the youths.
According to my view, Bangladesh is uniquely positioned to create the same success; our costs are 25 per cent lower than our neighbour India and will continue to have this cost advantage for the next 10 to 15 years. The BPO industry is also a hedge during the recession, since during this time companies are looking to cut costs and hence outsourcing and during boom time they require capacity. To sustain in the business and to win in the global competition the western companies have to outsource. Nothing will stop this trend. There is no cost minimisation mechanism other than outsourcing for companies; it doesn’t matter whether they are local or global.
The Independent: Can we make call centre industry successful like our garment industry?
Ahmadul Hoq: The garment sector spends less than 5 per cent in salary but in call centre our cost are 65 per cent on salary. In the next 10 to 15 years we have the opportunity in creating 2 lakhs jobs. The salary of staffs would be around fifty thousand, and age limit of most of the recruited staffs will be between eighteen to thirty. This particular age group doesn’t save much that means more cash flow to the local economy.
The Independent: What are the benefits we have in Bangladesh to make this industry grow?
Ahmadul Hoq: Our population is our strength to boost the sector and we are able to provide 25 per cent cheap labour than India. The percentage of educated young is on the rise. Our young population is very serious towards their work, they are attentive and always egger to learn. For example, when I was in BRAC garments, we use to pay extra 50 Taka per month for full attendance. 95 per cent of the employee earned that money. That only shows how committed they are. We just have to show them respect, provide the right working environment and guide them towards the right path.
The Independent: Please tell us about our preparation with requisite infrastructures?
Ahmadul Hoq: The required ICT infrastructure is slowly spreading across the country. Bandwidth price has come down much more than before. Hopefully, we will get second submarine cable connection soon, it will be a backup to the existing submarine cable connection to support when it is down due to unavoidable reason.
Unfortunately we are the only county in the subcontinent which has only one submarine cable connection. A decade ago we missed the chance to get submarine cable connection at free of cost. We could be successful like Indian call centre business if we wouldn’t miss the chance that is present now. Only for wrong policies we incurred huge loss. Just after second submarine cable connection BTRC and BACCO will work in favour of creating a more business friendly policy guidelines.
The Independent: Can you tell us the knowledge level of our staffs?
Ahmadul Hoq: In UK one week training is enough to employ call centre staffs but in our country we need at least six month to sharpen the skills of staffs. But it doesn’t mean our younger people don’t know English. I found it is hard for them to understand English accent of some regions. So we are providing effective listening practices and emphasising on overcoming diphthong related problems by arranging training; it can help them to pronounce English word in a standard way. Besides, once they are in a call centre environment where English is spoken around them which will help them to improve continuously.
But you should also know that voice only covers 5 to 7 per cent of a call centre functions, many other channel of communications are incorporated in this industry such as chat, SMS, web, live video support, etc, so a more appropriate name is 'contact centre' instead of calling it ‘call centre’.
The Independent: What the supports are you expecting from the concern authority?
Ahmadul Hoq: For call centre industry we need an industrial park. Time is money for this business, so getting its employees to work at the shortest possible time is very important. Also, the transportation of staffs of call centres should be address as emergency service workers. Like ambulance they need fast transport systems to avoid traffic jam and security should be provided to the staffs because they have to work and travel at night.
The Independent: Are you getting female staffs easily?
Ahmadul Hoq: Not yet. One of the social prejudices is girl shouldn’t work at night. But I think female staffs will join us when all the security will be ensured and parents will be certain that their girls are working at a safe and proper atmosphere. In my business house I also call parents and husbands of female staffs to show the healthy surrounding of my call centre. It is fact that everywhere female callers are in majority and performing better than male counterparts.
The Independent: Do we need foreign staffs to run the contact centre?
Ahmadul Hoq: Yes, but just for a certain period. In the beginning we need foreign experts who can bring expertise and jazz up the local staffs. So visa processing for the foreigner staffs must be easier, even they should be provided 5 years long visa with 1 year stay permission. 25 per cent tax on their salary sound much high. We have to ensure a comfortable atmosphere for foreign trainers and investors whose investment must be protected.
The Independent: How can we make a stunting offer to the outsourcing countries?
Ahmadul Hoq: Only this year 15 years tax holiday has just expired in India. Our government should extend the tax holiday for another 15 to 20 years for the BPO industry to give an additional cost advantage over other countries. We need it because the upfront cost of getting in this business is very high and the ROI is very long.
As per our analysis such tax holiday will bring huge investment to the sector. Our IT generation will be able to earn much and individually they will be able to pay more tax on their salary. It will boost up the earning of middles class as well as the economy of the country.

For example, when I was in BRAC garments, we use to pay extra 50 Taka per month for full attendance. 95 per cent of the employee earned that money. That only shows how committed they are. We just have to show them respect, provide the right working environment and guide them towards the right path.
The Independent: Please tell us about our preparation with requisite infrastructures?
Ahmadul Hoq: The required ICT infrastructure is slowly spreading across the country. Bandwidth price has come down much more than before. Hopefully, we will get second submarine cable connection soon, it will be a backup to the existing submarine cable connection to support when it is down due to unavoidable reason.
Unfortunately we are the only county in the subcontinent which has only one submarine cable connection. A decade ago we missed the chance to get submarine cable connection at free of cost. We could be successful like Indian call centre business if we wouldn’t miss the chance that is present now. Only for wrong policies we incurred huge loss. Just after second submarine cable connection BTRC and BACCO will work in favour of creating a more business friendly policy guidelines.
The Independent: Can you tell us the knowledge level of our staffs?
Ahmadul Hoq: In UK one week training is enough to employ call centre staffs but in our country we need at least six month to sharpen the skills of staffs. But it doesn’t mean our younger people don’t know English. I found it is hard for them to understand English accent of some regions. So we are providing effective listening practices and emphasising on overcoming diphthong related problems by arranging training; it can help them to pronounce English word in a standard way. Besides, once they are in a call centre environment where English is spoken around them which will help them to improve continuously.
But you should also know that voice only covers 5 to 7 per cent of a call centre functions, many other channel of communications are incorporated in this industry such as chat, SMS, web, live video support, etc, so a more appropriate name is 'contact centre' instead of calling it ‘call centre’.
The Independent: What the supports are you expecting from the concern authority?
Ahmadul Hoq: For call centre industry we need an industrial park. Time is money for this business, so getting its employees to work at the shortest possible time is very important. Also, the transportation of staffs of call centres should be address as emergency service workers. Like ambulance they need fast transport systems to avoid traffic jam and security should be provided to the staffs because they have to work and travel at night.
The Independent: Are you getting female staffs easily?
Ahmadul Hoq: Not yet. One of the social prejudices is girl shouldn’t work at night. But I think female staffs will join us when all the security will be ensured and parents will be certain that their girls are working at a safe and proper atmosphere. In my business house I also call parents and husbands of female staffs to show the healthy surrounding of my call centre. It is fact that everywhere female callers are in majority and performing better than male counterparts.
The Independent: Do we need foreign staffs to run the contact centre?
Ahmadul Hoq: Yes, but just for a certain period. In the beginning we need foreign experts who can bring expertise and jazz up the local staffs. So visa processing for the foreigner staffs must be easier, even they should be provided 5 years long visa with 1 year stay permission. 25 per cent tax on their salary sound much high. We have to ensure a comfortable atmosphere for foreign trainers and investors whose investment must be protected.
The Independent: How can we make a stunting offer to the outsourcing countries?
Ahmadul Hoq: Only this year 15 years tax holiday has just expired in India. Our government should extend the tax holiday for another 15 to 20 years for the BPO industry to give an additional cost advantage over other countries. We need it because the upfront cost of getting in this business is very high and the ROI is very long.
As per our analysis such tax holiday will bring huge investment to the sector. Our IT generation will be able to earn much and individually they will be able to pay more tax on their salary. It will boost up the earning of middles class as well as the economy of the country.

ICT / First Bangladeshi joins .ORG advisory council

Info-tech guru TIM Nurul Kabir has been appointed as one of the advisers to .ORG Advisory Council. He is the first Bangladeshi who got the prestigious position in Public Interest Registry, PIR, which is the not-for-profit operator of the .ORG domain.
Mr. Kabir led various IT projects in National and International arenas which contributed qualitative changes through capacity building and value creation for required objective. He has played a key role of IPR in the development of ICT and internet governance nationally and internationally in various forums. He has worked for UN Internet Governance Forum, IGF and WSIS for years.
Since 2003 the .ORG Advisory Council has been a powerful resource for the PIR leadership team by providing advice on policy, outreach and new services to improve registry operations and to support the global, noncommercial .ORG community.
“The position will provide me a big opportunity to deliver services at international level and connecting me with such international body will allow me to promote Bangladeshi IT sector across the globe .†He expressed his reaction just after receiving his appointment letter.

The recent World Bank’s report on IC4D 2012 highlights the importance of mobile phone in the green revolution. According to the report mobile applications designed to improve incomes, productivity, and yields within the agricultural sector, which accounts for about 40 percent of the workforce and an even greater proportion of exports in many developing countries.
This year ITU’s second annual ‘Green Standards Week’ (GSW), to be held in Paris from 17-21 September, will stimulate the creation of international ‘green ICT’ standards with a view to further expanding the capabilities of information and communication technologies to boost environmental efficiency across all industry sectors.
A big part of the World Bank T report is: voice calls and SMS text messages have proven invaluable in increasing efficiency in smallholder agriculture. People can provide real-time price information and improve the flow of information along the entire value chain, from producers to processors to wholesalers to retailers to consumers.
As we know wide feature of mobile phone is able to run agricultural functions, its multimedia image based solution is being used to overcome illiteracy and provide complex information regarding weather and climate, pest control, cultivation practices, and agricultural extension services to potentially less tech-savvy farmers.
Environmental sustainability has become one of the highest priorities for policy makers worldwide. We now recognise that, over the long term, economic growth at the expense of the environment breeds greater costs than it does benefits. We need decisive actions that can deliver on the world’s commitment to a greener future.
Microsoft will host the second ITU Green Standards Week because ICT is so deeply engrained across industry sectors that any study of ICT is necessarily inter-disciplinary in nature. Green Standards Week is therefore an ideal opportunity to ensure a holistic approach to the creation of green ICT policies and standards.
The main focus of this year’s forum will be the impact of ICTs on the environment. Forum sessions on e-waste challenges and ‘greening’ the ICT supply chain will look at means of minimising the life-cycle environmental impact of ICT products. An information and training session will detail ITU’s standardised Methodologies for the Environmental Impact Assessment of ICTs. And finally, a forum on environmental sustainability for the ICT sector will expand discussions to address the long-term health of the ICT sector, providing insight into the ICT industry’s reaction to the outcomes of Rio+20 in June.
The first day of GSW will feature a gala award ceremony for the second ITU Green ICT Application Challenge, rewarding outstanding concept papers around the topic of “Sustainable Energy for Allâ€.

ICT / e-payment of Taxes

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) launched an e-payment system by the end of the month March of this year to ease hassles of taxpayers by gradually replacing the manual tax payment system.
Taxpayers including companies, will be able to pay income tax, value added tax and customs duties online after the launch of the electronic payment system, said an official of the NBR yesterday.
But initially, the taxpayers having accounts with banks that share Q cash ATM (automated teller machine) networks will get the scope to pay taxes online.
Two state-run banks, Sonali and Janata, as well as 24 private banks are in the Q cash network.
Other banks that issue Visa debit or credit cards will also come gradually under the e-payment system, said Kanon Kumar Roy, e-governance focal point officer of the NBR.
"Individual taxpayers and businesses will be able to pay tax online using debit or credit cards or bank accounts for any year. Taxes can be paid anytime from anywhere," he said.
Companies will require to log on to the NBR website and register by using their tax identification number or business identification number, said Roy, also the director general of Directorate of Inspection (taxes) under the NBR.
To finally pay online, the taxpayers will have to use their debit or credit card numbers and personal identification number. After completion of these procedures, the taxpayers will get acknowledgement receipts with bar codes.
Roy said these acknowledgement receipts will be treated as approved, allowing the taxpayers to show these printed copies of these receipts or the bar codes at the time of submission of tax returns.
The e-payment system comes in line with the NBR goal of automating the entire revenue collection process to ease hassles of the taxpayers and boost revenue collection by curbing pilferage and anomalies.
Currently, the taxpayers have to pay taxes through treasury chalan (voucher) or pay orders to deposit taxes to the state exchequer through Sonali Bank.
It causes hassles to the taxpayers as they have to stand for long in queues to deposit money and get receipt of payments.
The existing system also has some flaws. Sometimes taxpayers, who complete tax payment related formalities, find that their taxes are not deposited because of misappropriation of fund by middlemen through forgery of documents, insiders said.
In case of pay orders, the taxpayers need to go to the concerned tax office to get receipt of payments. And field-level staffs of tax need to submit these pay orders to treasury for confirmation of tax payment.
But in many cases, the staffs do not submit the pay orders deliberately to get bribe from the taxpayers. It creates uncertainty for the taxpayers, they added.
Roy said e-payment will ease these hassles.
