Textile science, events, trade and issues / I want to be a Merchandiser!

 I feel the importance of writing this article, as many of my students expressing their aim in life as to become a Merchandiser in apparel manufacturing sector. Merchandising is principally general managerial activities (approximately 95% management and 5% technical activities). Being a part of technical education, students still love merchandising as their prospective profession. But why?

Before going to write about this title, it is important to introduce myself. I am a M.Sc. Textile-Clothing Engineer from Germany and B.Sc. in Textile Technologist from College of Textile Technology (currently BUTex), Bangladesh. Having experienced in home textile processing, printing, knit merchandising, I am playing role of a teacher in Textile Engineering Department in a Private University, Dhaka.

Environmental Science and Disaster Management / Textile and Environment

I am a faculty member in the department of textile engineering. I have been practically dealing with industrial pollution, especially textile-clothing sector. I would like to share some information regarding textile-clothing environmental pollution and how institutes/organizations/consortium from all over the world are taking their initiative to save environment, or minimizing environment pollution.

textile-clothing industries basically cotton based. and note that cotton is one of the deadliest crops in the world in term of environment pollution and killing living beings. but also note that cotton is the king of kings textile fibers. therefore, there is no balance between two points- deadliest crop and king of fibers. to bring balance between two points, there have been created different concepts/standard/programs by leading bodies from all continents. sharing information in this way is not good, it may misguide learners, I am not sure what kind of fiber you are talking about like
-fiber in general sense
- textile fibers
- engineering fibers
there is no clear examples of any class, and synthetic fibers forms are totally absent, and i have not seen any indication regeneration of fibers.

i like to let you know that this is textile form and textile specific information should be published with read to get depth knowledge on textile science.

i also advice commenter to read it first with your best knowledge and then if you think the provided information has helped you, please write down which information has helped you and how?

GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) invented by GOTS working body called IWG (International Working Group) consisting of globally recognized bodies, namely- Soil Association (SA)-UK, Organic Trade Association (OTA)-USA,  Japan Organic Cultivation Association (JOCA)-Japan and Internationaler Verband der Naturtextilwirtschaft (IVN)-Germany. GOTS started its journey in October 2006, with the first most certifying body "Institute for Market Ecology(IMO).

Within short time, the standard got most priority in the textile-clothing sector, and becomes the most comprehensive organic label in the world.

As, its continuous development, now GOTS 3.0 version in the market already, but implementation of this version is must for all textile-clothing manufacturers, its dyes and chemical suppliers, while forest based finished goods (paper, cartoon) must be FSC/PEFC from January 2014.

that is why, most of the chemical/dyes/ auxiliaries manufacturers of textiles  are flocking to the its certifiers to  get certificate of their products. there are few dyes/auxiliaries/chemical plants in Bangladesh, they are also giving utter most priority to get their products and so they can feed textile industry their products with easy efforts.

there are some companies/ agents/ industries which are working for sustainable development in the field of energy/power consumption:

like Solarvista, the stall one can easily find next to the entrance of main building of BICC.
'Dynagro'-providing innovative engineering solution to textile and clothing industry
some companies came with motto with cleaner production, which providing CAD/CAM/automatic spreader for clothing industry

I rather like to discourage students to learn conversation table. But I always like to encourage students to understand the logic behind the conversation.

It is universal true that when someone is not in practice, he/she must forget the conversation table while if he/she know the logic behind the conversation, he/she can any time of his/her life can solve the problem
