Govt to create new jobs in hand loom sector

The government has instigated steps to boost the efficiency and earnings of the handloom workers, while generating around 21,000 new jobs in the sector.

This initiative came in line with the passing of a Tk 355.5 million worth of project for setting up a fashion design and training institute and a core centre for growth in development of hand loom fabrics.

While the Japan Debt Cancellation Fund (JDCF) would provide Tk 350 million for the project, the rest of the funds amounting to Tk 5.5 millions would flow from the government exchequer. The Bangladesh Hand-loom Board on behalf of the Textile and Jute Ministry would execute the project scheduled for completion by June 2013.

The project is aimed at setting up a fashion design and training institute in Dhaka, while would also set up three sub-training centres in Kalihati in Tangail, Kumarkhali in Kushtia and in Sirajganj’s Belkuchi.

The project is also intended at developing infrastructural facilities for imparting training to handloom workers, developing new designs keeping in view the market demand and likings of the customers and training the instructors and trainees of the vocational training institutes.

Textile related first bangle magazine ‘TEXBARTA’ published from DIU
The textile industry has played an important role in Bangladesh’s economy for a long time. Currently, the textile industry in Bangladesh accounts for 45 percent of all industrial employment and contributes 5 percent to the total national income. The industry employers nearly 4 million people, mostly women.
A huge 78 percent of the country’s export earnings come from textiles and apparel, according to the latest figures available. Bangladesh exports its apparel products worth nearly $5 billion per year to the United States, European Union (EU), Canada and other countries of the world. It is the sixth largest apparel supplier to the United States and EU countries.

Under the circumstances to hold this condition in future we should act with together. But in a technological development major question is language. This textile technology to make easier to textile engineer, students and others a creative bangla magazine has published from DIU recently.
It is related to textile, garments fashion, lifestyle. And not only the first magazine in DIU but also in Bangladesh.
A textile engineer need lot basic knowledge in textile but when he wants to gather it he has to face foreign language because Books, journals, magazines of textile are generally formed in English version so they lost their interest.
So ‘texbarta’ is our little creation for all types of people in Bangladesh.
We need available support from our students, teacher’s, authorities of our university.
