 Thawed or partially thawed food in the freezer may be safely refrozen if it still contains ice crystals or is at 40 °F or below. Partial thawing and refreezing may affect the quality of some food, but the food will be safe to eat.

If you keep an appliance thermometer in your freezer, it’s easy to tell whether food is safe. When the power comes back on, check the thermometer. If it reads 40 °F or below, the food is safe and can be refrozen.

Never taste food to determine its safety! You can’t rely on appearance or odor to determine whether food is safe.
Note: Always discard any items in the freezer that have come into contact with raw meat juices.

You will have to evaluate each item separately. Use this chart as a guide in this link:

Pharmacy / Salmonella Outbreak Linked to shell eggs
« on: May 05, 2018, 10:45:43 AM »
The inside of eggs that appear normal can contain a germ called Salmonella that can make you sick, especially if you eat raw or lightly cooked eggs. Eggs are safe when you cook and handle them properly.

How can I reduce my chance of getting a Salmonella infection?

    Consider buying and using pasteurized eggs and egg products, which are widely available.
    Keep eggs refrigerated at 40°F (4°C) or colder at all times. Only buy eggs from stores and suppliers that keep them refrigerated.
    Discard cracked or dirty eggs.

Poultry may carry bacteria such as Salmonella that can contaminate the inside of eggs before the shells are formed. Eggs can also become contaminated from the droppings of poultry through the laying process or from the environment (e.g., contaminated poultry feed or bedding).

    Cook eggs until both the yolk and white are firm. Egg dishes should be cooked to an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C) or hotter.
    Make sure that foods that contain raw or lightly cooked eggs, such as hollandaise sauce, Caesar salad dressing, and tiramisu, are made only with pasteurized eggs.
    Eat or refrigerate eggs and foods containing eggs promptly after cooking. Do not keep eggs or foods made with eggs warm or at room temperature for more than 2 hours, or 1 hour if the temperature is 90°F or hotter.
    Wash hands and items that came into contact with raw eggs—including counter tops, utensils, dishes, and cutting boards—with soap and water.

Pharmacy / One Simple Way to Check Your Health in One Minute
« on: July 04, 2017, 05:03:25 PM »
Take a common spoon, and scrape it over the entire surface of the tongue, abundantly wetting it with saliva. Put the spoon into a transparent plastic bag, and place it under a bright light: the sun or a desk lamp. Wait 1 minute, and check the spoon.

A clean spoon with no stains or unpleasant odors means you have no problems with the health of your internal organs.

If there’s an odor:

    Putrefactive, strong — problems with the lungs or stomach;
    Sweet — it may be diabetes;
    Ammonia — problems with the kidneys.

If there are stains:

    White or yellow with a thick coating — thyroid gland dysfunction;
    Purple — bronchitis, poor blood circulation, high cholesterol level;
    White — respiratory infection;
    Orange — kidney disease.

Remember that this method is for informational purposes only and doesn’t replace a doctor’s consultation.
