Debate Forum / Team Work
« on: May 06, 2010, 12:21:54 AM »
Debate is a team work mainly. If all the members of a team speaks in the single line, it echos much better and that is called the stand point. Stand point should be clear to all the team member and they should agree on one central point. After that the Stand point will work as the inspiration to prove the topic.

Each member should be aware of his\her responsibility to prove the point. If one member speaks well and the rest do not, the team is sure to suffer. so everyone should remember the team first.

In fine, debate is great place to learn team work.

Rain

Hey! Can you hear the sound?
The sweet soft sound of rain.
Makes a rhythm, goes on,
Drop! Another drop and many drops!
Gives you a tone, makes you desire
Feel it ,  this is now her life
She cries like the rain. The sound
Is sweet but she is in pain
Lost love makes her so.
I am a coil goes round in her head
She asked for love, I said no!
She is in me, I feel; laying in bed, alone
But I contemplate: I will touch the zenith of glory,
This tyrannic decision is made
So, I let her raining.

English / A Search for Knowledge
« on: April 22, 2010, 01:58:59 AM »
A human must know what knowledge is. One may look at something in many ways but in the nook of your heart you will concern to understand what is the real meaning of that thing and this meaning is called knowledge. We can not imitate or borrow it but we have to acquire it by feelings. So we may say that the intellectual power behind words and things or the truth behind words and things is knowledge. If we read an article we must not only read it but also understand the inner meaning. We should also feel by heart about the article thus we may get the knowledge of the article. Knowledge is the substance of everything of every thing and the goal of our life must be acquiring knowledge.

Now a day’s people are interested to get a ready-made result of anything they want to understand things readily. Just go through any subject without understanding the proper meaning. They do not feel what they are learning. This process may get them a split success but will this success bring any permanent good to them? We often try heart and soul to understand things quickly so that we can do things quickly, but out come of this is imperfect knowledge, Knowledge takes a certain time to dissolve in a man. Get a firm devotion and keep on trying, you will be blessed by Knowledge. It will make you confident, provide you will of dong things, wash away your confusion and conflict.

If you run through the way of improper Knowledge you will surely struggle in life. You will not find a good life, it happens more with the unimaginative people. It is feeling and imagination that lead you towards Knowledge. You have to imagine perfect, feel from heart and reach the bottom of knowledge.

It is our ethical responsibilities to acquire Knowledge. A devoted heart is a must for dong this, if one does this duty, with the power of Knowledge one will surely succeed in life. Because it is the power of Knowledge which is precious, timeless and can make thing happen. Not the ready made meaning is important but Knowledge. So we should be aware of acquiring of knowledge. It will enlighten everybody and thus we can get a better society.

Knowledge has the power to bring happiness to human. It works from inside an abstract but efficient thing. A human becomes more than a human with this power. Only sun can be compared to knowledge, both removes dark slowly but surely. Therefore the ultimate goal of human life must be acquiring knowledge and enlighten things.

VISION of 'Waiting for Godot'
A drama by Samuel Beckett

Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot is the manifestation of the post war disillusionment of the 1950s. It is called “absurd drama”, the term “absurd drama” is applied to this play by Martin Esslin in his book The Theatre of the Absurd. Absurd literature presents the vision of a world that has lost its essence and moral value. Beckett presents a drama that presents the saga of death, life, isolation, silence, lack of communication and hope. The major focus of Beckett is the swing of human life between, hope and despair, certainty and uncertainty. This particular type of play arises from a deep sense of despair which we first observe in Camu’s The Myth of Sisyphus. The absurd philosophy can be considered as an extended version of existentialism philosophy introduced by Jean Paul Satre. Beckett portrays an absurd world depicting the tragic predicaments of human life in a nihilistic way; nothing is left except from hope. The 'present situation' of the play is always nothing to be done. Beckett suggests that this waiting is endless and if we want to do something we have to move by ourselves.

English / Do It

Take a look at this poem and let me know your feedback.

Do It
Hasan Shahrear

Yes you! Come on, move forward
Don’t make glorious retreat, never,
Because you know you can do it.

No human born without woman womb
Crawled and walked; now running.
None is holding your tongue
Some just ignore, some don’t know how to do it.

Life is life itself, unique,
Don’t think to be or not to be.
Memory Napoleon and Che
And make your heart and brain parallel
And lets do it.

Let us start English debate

DIUDC is one of the best clubs of DIU and this club has proved it. But it is unfortunate that we are debating in Bangla only. It is a perfect time for us to start debate in English. I am hoping that DIUDC will take necessary steps to organize English debate.

English / Art of narration
« on: August 28, 2009, 01:33:43 AM »
Art of narration is called Narratology which is very interesting. Let us have a look at it:

Narratology is the structural stands of a narrative; it is the art of narration used by the author. The poet may use a mimetic way or a diegetic way for narration. Mimetic way is that which includes a modification of actual fact and diegetic way is that way which describes what has happened. According to Aristotle the poet can not use a diegetic way, he/she always uses a mimetic way. According to modern literary theory a poet can use both the ways, but to produce different point of viewes and to describe what might happen, the poet often uses the mimetic way. Mimetic description can be called plot or sjuzhet and diegetic description can be called story or fabula. So, mimetic description should not be taken literally.

       Now, for poet’s purpose he/she uses different techniques to describe the plot. The most recent narratologist Gerard Genette described different aspects of narratology considering;
i.   Plato’s view of Mimesis,
ii.   Ferdinand de Saussure’s linguistic view of language,
iii.   Roman Jakobson’s view that practical language and poetic languages are different,
iv.   Roland Barthes ‘underlying structure’ approach to literature, and
v.   Vladimir Propp’s thirty-one ‘functions’ of Russian Folklore,

he deals with all relations between plot and story. He discusses such issues as; story time and plot time, chronology of events, duration of representation. He has also discussed flashback and flash forward techniques of representation. His most innovative question is: ‘who sees? And who tells?’ Gerard Genette described his point of view as “The essential function of the critical activity in establishment of a dialogue between a single text and the conscious or unconscious, individual or collective psyche of creator and/or reader.” Genette’s statement reminds the psychoanalytical ideas of Freud, and demands that author’s biography is a concern.
