 I feel the importance of writing this article, as many of my students expressing their aim in life as to become a Merchandiser in apparel manufacturing sector. Merchandising is principally general managerial activities (approximately 95% management and 5% technical activities). Being a part of technical education, students still love merchandising as their prospective profession. But why?

Before going to write about this title, it is important to introduce myself. I am a M.Sc. Textile-Clothing Engineer from Germany and B.Sc. in Textile Technologist from College of Textile Technology (currently BUTex), Bangladesh. Having experienced in home textile processing, printing, knit merchandising, I am playing role of a teacher in Textile Engineering Department in a Private University, Dhaka.

Environmental Science and Disaster Management / Textile and Environment

I am a faculty member in the department of textile engineering. I have been practically dealing with industrial pollution, especially textile-clothing sector. I would like to share some information regarding textile-clothing environmental pollution and how institutes/organizations/consortium from all over the world are taking their initiative to save environment, or minimizing environment pollution.

textile-clothing industries basically cotton based. and note that cotton is one of the deadliest crops in the world in term of environment pollution and killing living beings. but also note that cotton is the king of kings textile fibers. therefore, there is no balance between two points- deadliest crop and king of fibers. to bring balance between two points, there have been created different concepts/standard/programs by leading bodies from all continents. GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) invented by GOTS working body called IWG (International Working Group) consisting of globally recognized bodies, namely- Soil Association (SA)-UK, Organic Trade Association (OTA)-USA,  Japan Organic Cultivation Association (JOCA)-Japan and Internationaler Verband der Naturtextilwirtschaft (IVN)-Germany. GOTS started its journey in October 2006, with the first most certifying body "Institute for Market Ecology(IMO).

Within short time, the standard got most priority in the textile-clothing sector, and becomes the most comprehensive organic label in the world.

As, its continuous development, now GOTS 3.0 version in the market already, but implementation of this version is must for all textile-clothing manufacturers, its dyes and chemical suppliers, while forest based finished goods (paper, cartoon) must be FSC/PEFC from January 2014.

that is why, most of the chemical/dyes/ auxiliaries manufacturers of textiles  are flocking to the its certifiers to  get certificate of their products. there are few dyes/auxiliaries/chemical plants in Bangladesh, they are also giving utter most priority to get their products and so they can feed textile industry their products with easy efforts.

talk about our formal textile sector and informal textile sector. you all know that formal textile sector is a 4 million employment sector, while do you know about the informal textile sector which also contribute more than our expectation, but real figure still missing in Bangladesh statistic reports. the reason, they have never been given so importance. I like to offer BSc/MSc textile graduates to work over it as project or thesis work. interested students can contact me.

Most of us are talking about giving more importance to technical textile or new fields in the modern textile sector. I am not sure how much can we gain in the competitive world of technology and investment where giants are fighting with each other.
but i am sure that if we the textile engineers, educators, experts and investors take initiative to bring back our traditional textile production and can earn more than our expectation in the global market. look the the neighbor India that is the world's largest exporter of handloom fabric and its diversified products.

lets think about it and put your valuable contribution to the topic.

there is no doubt that we all welcome the position of RGM sector of Bangladesh with enthusiasm and encouragement. we are are happy and proud to get this position.

i especially like to go for value analysis of this contribution in the following aspects:

-what is the actual gain in terms of money for Bangladesh economy?
- what are the environmental and health loss in terms of money?
-What can be done to minimize the losses occurred?   
-what should we do (make promise) to stop this losses?

along with these, we should use 'Eco-metric' to calculate losses in:
water
air
land, etc.

lets start discussion these matter with references.
