Faculty Forum / Is Exercise Solution for Back Pain?
« on: April 01, 2012, 12:18:28 PM »
Exercises are considered one of the best way to cure back pain. The best way to cure a disease is to find the cause behind it. The pain might occur anywhere in the spinal cord. There are different regions of spinal cord where the pain can occur like lower back or upper back. The time for which the pain persists may also vary. Therefore the first step is to diagnose and find the particular region where the pain occurs. But the mere fact is that, there is no magical cure for such pain. We can work to reduce the pain and participate normally in day-to-day activities.

This can arise from lack of exercise, low physical activity, poor posture, bad form while lifting heavy objects or poor seated posture while commuting (especially over bad roads). Neglecting back pain can catapult into long term back problems.

The first thing to do is consult a specialist and he will guide you on the appropriate exercises. When someone has back pain, they must first consult their doctor to know which exercises are completely off limits and which are the ones that they can follow. In general, there are some exercises that should be best avoided for those with back pain. These would include situps, lying leg raises, standing toe touches, long distance jogging, etc.

It should be noted that avoiding exercise altogether is not the solution for back pain. Strengthening your body and developing your cardio system is a very efficient way to combat back pain. Core strengthening exercises and stretching will help to reduce back pain, similarly aerobic activities like walking and swimming are also a reliable option for those with back pain.

Faculty Forum / Effects of exercise on the brain
« on: February 08, 2012, 03:33:25 PM »

That aerobic exercise can help you burn fat, has already been established. It can also build lean muscle and even improve your cardiovascular health.

But did you know that completing an efficient aerobic workout at least 30 minutes a day most days of the week can also improve your cognitive function and boost your emotions positively? Here's how exercise affects your brain health...

Instant euphoria

An extended high-intensity exercise session can lead to what is commonly known as a runner's high, which is characterized by feelings of euphoria after an exercise session. These high spirits are caused by an influx of body-produced opioids called endorphins. Endorphins are also responsible for suppressing pain. If you're unable to go at a high intensity for a full exercise session, you may also get the high by alternating between moderate-intensity and high-intensity exercise. For example, if you normally walk quickly for exercise you could switch between fast walking and sprinting every 30 seconds.

Improved learning capacity
Exercise increases brain chemicals that help your brain form new cells and help the cells create new connections. These new cells and new connections improve learning capacity. More involved forms of exercise such as dancing and playing tennis are more likely to promote brainpower than rote activities such as swimming laps.

Reduced cognitive decline
Aging can induce decline in mental processes such as task coordination, working memory and planning. This decline occurs as a result of deterioration of white and gray matter in some parts of the brain. However, people who get moderate-intensity exercise on a regular basis are likely to have a greater volume of brain tissue and thus more likely to have improved cognitive performance. They may also be less likely to develop degenerative brain diseases such as Alzheimer's.

Reduced anxiety and depression
Exercise doesn't just offer a short-term high. Getting exercise on a regular basis may reduce your risk of depression and anxiety by releasing happy brain chemicals such as endorphins and neurotransmitters, reducing immune system chemicals that can exacerbate depression and induce a sense of calm by elevating your body temperature. Exercise also offers less direct mind benefits by giving you a healthy energy outlet and temporarily taking your mind off your worries.

Increased confidence
You may have greater confidence and an improved body image if you exercise on a regular basis. Reaching fitness goals such as running an extra mile or lifting an extra 5 pounds can give you a sense of accomplishment. Losing excess weight and improving your muscle tone is the visible reward for your endeavors, which can further improve your self-confidence.

Faculty Forum / Related to class room and exam hall rouls
« on: April 09, 2011, 03:00:52 PM »
Dear All,

I've noticed that most of our students doesn't know or pretend they don't know, about our class room behavioral rules and exam hall rules. I have a suggestion on how we can make this rules available to them at all time so that students can't say they don't know.

We can hang those rules and regulation permanently in every class room so that students can check them whenever they want.

I hope the concern authority will consider my suggestion.

Thank you all.

Faculty Forum / Need a Community Notice Board in Uttara Campus
« on: January 31, 2011, 07:48:32 AM »
In our uttara campus we have few notice board for office use only. But I think we can have a notice board for all students where students can post their own massage, ideas or just fun paper. Through this notice board we can increase communication between students and can promote their creativity which will help to make the university for students more interesting. Off course a committee should approve the massage before posting.

I hope the university authority will consider my suggestion so that students can know we are trying to make this university more enjoyable.
