I am a faculty member in the department of textile engineering. I have been practically dealing with industrial pollution, especially textile-clothing sector. I would like to share some information regarding textile-clothing environmental pollution and how institutes/organizations/consortium from all over the world are taking their initiative to save environment, or minimizing environment pollution.
textile-clothing industries basically cotton based. and note that cotton is one of the deadliest crops in the world in term of environment pollution and killing living beings. but also note that cotton is the king of kings textile fibers. therefore, there is no balance between two points- deadliest crop and king of fibers. to bring balance between two points, there have been created different concepts/standard/programs by leading bodies from all continents. I would come to this point after asking readers to read following links of article written by me:

The textile and clothing industry is a diverse one, as much in the raw materials it uses as the techniques it employs. At each of the six stages typically required to make a garment, the negative impacts on the environment are as numerous as they are varied. Spinning, weaving and industrial manufacture undermine air quality.Dyeing and printing consume vast amounts of water and chemicals, and release numerous volatile agents into the atmosphere that are particularly harmful to our health.
