স্মার্টফোনে থাকা রাইড হেইলিং সেবা উবার-এর অ্যাপ অধিকাংশ ব্যবহারকারীরা শুধু প্রয়োজনে গাড়ি ডাকার জন্যই ব্যবহার করে থাকেন। কিন্তু এই অ্যাপে লুকানো আরও কিছু ফিচার আছে। এই লুকানো ফিচারগুলো সম্পর্কে বিডিনিউজ টোয়েন্টিফোর ডটকমকে জানিয়েছে উবার। এই ফিচারগুলো নিয়েই এই প্রতিবেদন-

ইটিএ শেয়ার

যানযটে আটকে কোথাও যেতে দেরি হয়ে গেল, অপেক্ষারতরা যানজটের কথা বিশ্বাস করছেন না- এমন সমস্যার সমাধান রয়েছে উবার-এর অ্যাপে। ভ্রমণে থাকা অবস্থায় ‘শেয়ার স্ট্যাটাস’ অপশন ব্যবহার করে পাঠিয়ে দেওয়া যাবে টেক্সট। ওই টেক্সট-এ গ্রাহক একটি লিংক পাবেন যাতে প্রেরক কোথায় আছেন তা দেখানো হবে। যাত্রীর কোনো বন্ধু তাকে সন্ধান করতে গেলে ওই স্ট্যাটাসে যাত্রীর গাড়ি ও যাত্রা সম্পর্কিত বিস্তারিত তথ্যও পাওয়া যাবে।

ক্যালেন্ডারের সঙ্গে সমন্বয়

স্মার্টফোনের ক্যালেন্ডার অ্যাপে নোট করে রাখা কোনো ইভেন্টের ঠিক আধা ঘণ্টা আগে অ্যালার্ম বেজে উঠল। ঠিক এমন সময় তাড়াহুড়োর প্রয়োজন নেই। উবার অ্যাপে সিঙ্ক অপশন চালু করে রাখলেই তা স্মার্টফোনের ক্যালেন্ডার থেকে কোথায় যেতে হবে সে তথ্য নিয়ে রাখবে। ওই সময় উবার অ্যাপ চালু করলেই তা ক্যালেন্ডার অ্যাপে থাকা গন্তব্যের ঠিকানা দেখাবে।

প্রোমো কোড বিশেষায়িত করা

কেউ যদি যন্ত্র থেকে পাঠানো কোড পছন্দ না করেন আর বন্ধুকে পছন্দমতো রেফারেল কোড পাঠাতে চান তাহলে উবার ওয়েবসাইটে থাকা অ্যাকাউন্টে সাইন আপ করতে হবে। সেখানে ব্যবহারকারীর প্রোফাইলের নিচে একটি অপশন পাওয়া যাবে। সেখানে নিজের রেফারেল কোড দাবি করা যাবে। ব্যবহারকারীর বন্ধু এই রেফারেল কোড দিয়ে সাইন আপ করলে ব্যবহারকারী ও তার বন্ধু দুজনেই ছাড় পাবেন।

রাইডার রেটিং

অ্যাপে ব্যবহারকারীর নামের নিচে থাকা সংখ্যা দিয়ে তার রেটিং প্রকাশ করা হয়। কেউ কোনো যাত্রা এখনও না করলে এই রেটিং দেখানো হয় না। প্রতি যাত্রা শেষে ব্যবহারকারী যেমন চালককে রেটিং দিতে পারেন সেভাবেই এই রেট পাওয়া যায়। এটি যাত্রী ও চালকের মধ্যে পারস্পারিক সম্মান তৈরিতে সহায়তা করে বলেই দাবি প্রতিষ্ঠানটির।

ভাড়া ভাগ করে নেওয়া

কোনো বন্ধুর সঙ্গে মিলে উবারে যাত্রা করলে, কার ভাগে কত ভাড়া পড়বে তা আলাদা হিসাব করার দরকার নেই। যাত্রা শুরুর আগে ‘স্প্লিট ফেয়ার’ অপশন ব্যবহার করে সহজেই তা করা যায়। কোনো বন্ধুকে আমন্ত্রণ জানালে তিনি তার উবার অ্যাপে একটি এসএমএস পাবেন। যাত্রা শেষে উবার অ্যাপ নিজেই প্রতি যাত্রীর কার কতো ভাড়া তা হিসাব করে দেবে।

Software Engineering / Apple might be making an Apple Watch with glucose-monitoring abilities

An upcoming version of the Apple Watch may have the ability to monitor a person's glucose levels. That's according to a report from tech website BGR. The report, which should be treated with some caution as it only cites one source (who may or may not work for Apple) says that "Apple's sights are now set on the epidemic of diabetes."

The report does not make clear how Apple would monitor glucose through the Apple Watch but BGR suggests that the glucose monitoring could be done through the Apple Watch band as opposed to through the main hardware. It's unclear whether this is sheer speculation or whether the prediction is backed up with comments from the source.

Most people with diabetes today have to take a small blood sample and run it through a device in order to determine their blood sugar levels so a non-invasive Apple Watch would no doubt be welcomed by diabetes sufferers worldwide. Apple does not typically comment on rumors such as this one.

Investigators believe that a set of top-secret National Security Agency hacking tools were offered to online bidders this summer. যুক্তরাজ্যের ন্যাশনাল হেলথ সার্ভিস (এনএইচএস) সহ কয়েকশ’ সংস্থায় আঘাত হানা র‍্যানসমওয়্যারের বিস্তার ‘দৈবচক্রে’ আটকে দিয়েছেন যুক্তরাজ্যের এক নিরাপত্তা গবেষক। কিন্তু কীভাবে তিনি এ কাজ করলেন?
‘ম্যালওয়্যারটেক’ ছদ্মনামে পরিচিত ২২ বছর বয়সী এই গবেষক এক সপ্তাহের ছুটিতে ছিলেন। কিন্তু বৈশ্বিক সাইবার আক্রমণের খুবর শুনে র‍্যানসমওয়্যার নিয়ে তদন্ত করার সিদ্ধান্ত নেন তিনি।

ক্ষতিকর ওই সফটওয়্যারের কোডে থাকা একটি ‘কিল সুইচ ’খুঁজে পাওয়ার পর, এটি ছড়ানো বন্ধ করে দিতে সক্ষম হন তিনি। তিনি বলেন, সারারাত তদন্তের পর “এটি আসলে অনেকটা দুর্ঘটনাবশত হয়েছে। সারারাতে আমি একবারও চোখ বন্ধ করিনি।” 

যদিও তার এই সন্ধান র‍্যানসমওয়্যারের কারণে হয়ে যাওয়া ক্ষতি পূরণ করবে না, কিন্তু এর ফলে এই ম্যালওয়্যার অন্য কোনো নতুন কম্পিউটারে ছড়ানো বন্ধ হয়েছে। এ ঘটনায় তাকে ‘দৈব নায়ক’ হিসেবে আখ্যা দেওয়া হয়েছে, বলা হয় বিবিসি’র প্রতিবেদনে। এমন আখ্যায় সম্মতিও দিয়েছেন তিনি। তার ভাষায়, “আমি বলব এটাই ঠিক।” তবে এ ক্ষেত্রে নিজের কৃতিত্বটা খুব একটা বড় করে দেখছেন না তিনি। “এই দৃষ্টি আকর্ষণটা কিছুটা বাড়িয়েই বলা। এই ছুটি শেষ করে দেওয়ার কারণে আমার বস আমাকে আরও এক সপ্তাহ ছুটি দিয়েছেন।”   

এই গবেষক প্রথমে খেয়াল করেন এই ম্যালওয়ার প্রতিবার কোনো নতুন কম্পিউটারে আঘাত হানার সময় একটি নির্দিষ্ট ওয়েব অ্যাড্রেসে যোগাযোগের চেষ্টা করছে। কিন্তু ওই ওয়েব অ্যাড্রেস আসলে বিভিন্ন অক্ষর মেশানো একটি লম্বা বাক্য ছিল, আর ওই নামে কোনো ওয়েবসাইট নিবন্ধিত ছিল না।

গবেষক ওই বাক্যের ঠিকানাটি নিবন্ধন করে ফেলেন আর এটি ১০.৬৯ ডলারের বিনিময়ে কিনে নেন। এর মালিকানা পাওয়ার পর কোন কোন কম্পিউটার থেকে এটি অ্যাকসেস করা হচ্ছে তা দেখার সুযোগ পান তিনি, সেই সঙ্গে কীভাবে এই র‍্যানসমওয়্যার ছড়াচ্ছে তার ধারণাও পেয়ে যান।

এমনটা করার সময়, অপ্রত্যাশিতভাবেই র‍্যানসমওয়্যারটিতে থাকা ছড়ানো বন্ধ করে দেওয়ার অংশটি বন্ধ করে দেন তিনি।

এর মাধ্যমে এক ডিভাইস থেকে ডিভাইসে এই র‍্যানসমওয়্যার ছড়ানো বন্ধ হলেও, আক্রান্ত কম্পিউটারগুলো ঠিক হবে না। এ ক্ষেত্রে নিরাপত্তা গবেষকরা সতর্ক করে বলেন, সামনে নতুন ম্যালওয়্যার আসতে পারে যাতে হয়তো ‘কিল সুইচ’ থাকবে না।

ম্যালওয়্যারটেক বলেন, “আমরা এই একটিকে থামাতে পেরেছি, কিন্তু সামনে আরেকটি আসতে পারে আর হয়তোবা সেটি আমাদের পক্ষে থামানোর মতো হবে না। এখানে অনেক অর্থ আছে, তাদের (আক্রমণকারীদের) থামার কোনো কারণই নেই। কোডটি বদলে আবারও শুরু করাটা তাদের জন্য খুব একটা বেশি কিছু নয়।”

Ransomware a type of malicious software designed to block access to a computer system or data until a ransom is paid. Simple ransomware may lock the system in a way which is not difficult for a knowledgeable person to reverse, and display a message requesting payment to unlock it. More advanced malware encrypts the victim's files, making them inaccessible, and demands a ransom payment to decrypt them. The ransomware may also encrypt the computer's Master File Table (MFT) or the entire hard drive. Thus, ransomware is a denial-of-access attack that prevents computer users from accessing files[5] since it is intractable to decrypt the files without the decryption key. Ransomware attacks are typically carried out using a Trojan that has a payload disguised as a legitimate file.

While initially popular in Russia, the use of ransomware scams has grown internationally; in June 2013, security software vendor McAfee released data showing that it had collected over 250,000 unique samples of ransomware in the first quarter of 2013, more than double the number it had obtained in the first quarter of 2012. Wide-ranging attacks involving encryption-based ransomware began to increase through Trojans such as CryptoLocker, which had procured an estimated US$3 million before it was taken down by authorities, and CryptoWall, which was estimated by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to have accrued over $18m by June 2015

Current is a new startup that wants to take allowances into the modern age through an app-controlled Visa debit card, via TechCrunch. It’s a clever idea at its core: credit cards are more prevalent than ever these days, and this is a way for parents to help kids safely learn how to use them, which isn’t a bad thing.

Current allows parents set up both recurring allowances for kids or one-time batches of money, and it gives plenty of control when it comes to things like shutting off the card and blocking groups of retailers (like bars or hotels) or specific stores. And both parents and kids will be able track their spending in the current app, which could help with teaching lessons like financial responsibility.

There are some other nice features built into Current, too. Parents can assign chores to kids with monetary rewards through the app, and kids can easily donate money to charities if they’d like to. Current also offers an option to round up purchases to a dollar amount, depositing the extra in a savings wallet.

Of course, nothing in life is free: Current costs $5 a month, with discounted options of $36 paid annually, or $48 paid biannually for those willing to make a long-term commitment.

Software Engineering / Microsoft PowerPoint can now translate presentations in real time

Microsoft is experimenting with a new PowerPoint add-in that will allow users to present slides in a foreign language. Microsoft executive Harry Shum demonstrated the new add-in on stage at the company's Build developers conference today. Presenters can download Microsoft's Translator app and sync it to a PowerPoint presentation. This link will then provide closed captioning on top of PowerPoint slides automatically.

Microsoft's demonstration wasn't perfect, however. The translator failed to pick up Shum's Chinese several times, before eventually translating it successfully. Microsoft is previewing this new tool today at the company's Garage site, and it's hoping the translator is the latest tool to help eliminate linguistic barriers between presenters and attendees.

২০১৬ সালের শুরুতে উইন্ডোজ ১০-এ লিনাক্স-এর পুরো সংস্করণ তৈরি করে দিতে ডেভেলপারদের জন্য উইন্ডোজ সাবসিস্টেম ফর লিনাক্স বা ডাব্লিউএসএল নামের একটি উপায় ঘোষণা করেছিল উইন্ডোজ নির্মাতারা।

Emoji and stickers are becoming more and more a part of how we communicate on a daily basis, and Google is getting in on the action with a new Allo feature that generates custom cartoon stickers out of selfies of you, according to Fast Co Design.

Google being Google, though, generating your emoji avatar isn’t just a customizable tool, like Nintendo’s Miis or Snapchat’s Bitmoji. Instead, Google’s version implements machine learning and neural networks to map your facial features to animated versions designed by artist Lamar Abrams, which can then be customized further. The finished product is a variety of different stickers featuring your newly minted cartoon doppelgänger to use in future Allo chats.

Emotion reading technology could soon be used by police after a Russian firm created a tool that can identify people in a crowd and tell if they are angry, stressed or nervous.

The software, created by NTechLab, can monitor citizens for suspicious behaviour by tracking identity, age, gender and current emotional state. It could be used to pre-emptively stop criminals and potential terrorists.

"The recognition gives a new level of security in the street because in a couple of seconds you can identify terrorists or criminals or killers," said Alexander Kabakov, NTechLab chief executive.

Software Engineering / Fiat Chrysler recalls 1.25m trucks over software error

Fiat Chrysler is recalling more than 1.25 million pickup trucks worldwide over a software error that "may be related" to a death and two injuries.
The faulty code could potentially disable the side air bag and seat belt locking mechanism when a vehicle rolls over during a crash, the firm said.
Recalled vehicles will be reprogrammed.
Just over one million of the trucks were sold in the US, with thousands of others in Canada, Mexico and outside North America.
"The company is aware of one fatality, two injuries and two accidents that may be related," said Fiat Chrysler in a statement.
The firm added an investigation identified that the problem could be triggered following engine ignition.
The recall is scheduled to start in late June.
The affected vehicles are:
2013-16 Ram 1500
2013-16 Ram 2500
2014-2016 Ram 3500
Meanwhile, owners of the models have been told they can avoid the problem by turning the vehicle off and then on again if a warning light is activated due to the error.

Software Engineering / Smartphones that charge in five minutes 'could arrive next year'

Smartphones with batteries that fully charge in five minutes could be available to consumers next year.
The technology was first shown off in 2015, when Israeli start-up StoreDot demonstrated its FlashBattery at the CES tech show in Las Vegas.
Chief executive Doron Myersdorf told the BBC it is now expected to enter production in early 2018.
However, Ben Wood, a technology analyst at CCS Insight, said he had doubts about the claims.
Mr Myersdorf said he could not reveal which manufacturers were signed up to use the technology.
In 2015, he told the BBC his firm's battery contained materials that allowed for "non-traditional" reactions and the unusually fast transfer of ions from an anode to a cathode - the electrical process that charges a battery.
The design involves nanomaterials, which feature extremely small structures, and - unnamed - organic compounds.
