World Famous IT Giant Dr. Richard Matthew Stallman, President of Free Software Foundation will conduct a seminar on “A Free Digital Society” as keynote speaker on this December 12, 2014 at the Auditorium of Daffodil International University at the Sobhanbag Campus from 14:30 pm. Daffodil International University (DIU) and Foundation for Open Source Solution (FOSS) Bangladesh jointly organizing a seminar.
Now a day’s the most popular server system and the whole Internet system are running on GNU/Linux distributions like Debian, Redhat, Ubuntu etc. In Desktop computing Ubuntu, Linux Mint and Fedora is becoming famous at present. Among the Free software, in web browser we know Firefox and Chromium very well. For Graphics design we can think of GIMP, Inkscape and Blender for professional and home use. There is LibreOffice and OpenOffice as like any other Office document processing program. And each of these programs are built on using an open compiler program named GNU compiler and GNU Compiler Collection as GCC. And this is the main tools by using which a programmer can run his/her code to make it avaluable, effective software.  The main streamline for this digital social movement is named as FREE Software-FREE Hardware-Digital Freedom movement and the Founder of this movement is Dr. Richard Matthew Stallman, President of Free Software Foundation. He is coming to Bangladesh for the first time ever.
In a very short brief bio: Dr. Richard Stallman launched the free software movement in 1983 and started the development of the GNU operating system (see www.gnu.org) in 1984. GNU is free software: everyone has the freedom to copy it and redistribute it, with or without changes. The GNU/Linux system, basically the GNU operating system with Linux added, is used on tens of millions of computers today. Stallman has received the ACM Grace Hopper Award, a MacArthur Foundation fellowship, the Electronic Frontier Foundation's Pioneer Award and the Takeda Award for Social/Economic Betterment, as well as several doctorates honors cause, and has been inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame.
The seminar is open for all. Every Digital Freedom enthusiast is invited to attend the seminar.

World Quality Commitment (WQC) Award


Daffodil International University achieved World Quality Commitment (WQC) Award-2010 in Gold Category. DIU is the only educational institution in Bangladesh who achieved this award. Mr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Governors, Daffodil International University received this award from Jose E. Prieto, Chairman and CEO B.I.D. Business Initiative Directions
President World Quality Commitment Convention during the 24th World Quality Commitment Convention on October 24 and 25, 2010, the award were handed over at the ceremony in the Concorde La Fayette Hotel in Paris.
The world quality commitment awards is presented to each institution as an entity for corporate achievement, innovation, to recognize leadership, quality, excellence, technology; for this purpose a voting process was carried in Paris, London, Geneva, Frankfurt, Madrid, and New York over the past ten months based on one or several of the following concepts like The QC 100 principals, Customer/Audience Satisfaction, Leadership, Uses of Technology, Quality, Best practice, ISO 9000 and TMQ.

The Ceremony was attended by companies from 74 countries, together with leaders from different business fields, professionals from the worlds of economics, the arts and corporate image, quality experts, as well as academic personalities and representatives from the diplomatic corps.


World’s renowned organizations and personalities Like: TATA Group (Ratan TATA), India, Valery Menshikov, Director of the Research Institute of Space Systems of Russia, Ali H. Odeh, Vice President & General Manager for the Middle East of Turner Construction International LLC, Mayor of the city of San Antonio, Texas (USA), Mr. Henry Cisneros, Bill Clinton himself during an official visit to Spain as President of the USA and many others have won this award earlier.


Selection Criteria:
The world quality commitment awards is presented to each institution as an entity for corporate achievement, innovation, to recognize leadership, quality, excellence, technology  ; for this purpose a voting process was carried in Paris, London, Geneva, Frankfurt, Madrid, and New York over the past ten months based on one or several of the following concepts;

In addition to the voting process carried out in personal encounters with business leaders by mail and on line macro poll the management gathers information through consultations of the media, consultancy companies, chambers of commerce, embassies and polls which is analyzed by the world quality commitment award selection committee, which makes the final decision to select the annual awards.

Regarding Award Ceremony 2010:
This year, in Paris, during the World Quality Commitment Convention on October 24 and 25, 2010, the Awards will be handed out at the ceremony in the Concorde La Fayette Hotel

Be Alert / Be aware of Swine flu

Dear DIU Members,
I think, all of us may be quite aware of the fact that Swine flu is declared Pandemic by WHO.
We have a responsibility to keep ourselves safe in this situation.
Keep in close touch with your nearest all. If someone is sick & similar to seasonal viral fever, suggest the person to go to doctor immediately and take bed rest to make sure rest of all are safe.
Also share this information with your family members and take care of children who are quite vulnerable to this flu.
