Dear Yusuf Sir,

Thank you for your wiki idea, more people are feeling encouraged to join in the forum, we can make wiki if all are interested.

Unfortunately/ Fortunately nowadays i teach literature most. What i  am planning to do if it is  Drama and Novel i'll select scenes and make my students rewrite(in case of novels) and enact that.  I'll divide them into major two or three groups according to the scenes and in a group they are also divided into 3/4 small groups where some one writes dialogues, someone designs sets and some one does the acting. I'll consider it as their presentation and assignment. If it is poem students are divided according to the stanzas and line division and then they will find out word meanings and figure of speeches..... and they do it as class activity.

How do you find the idea? Any tips?

Best regards

English Department Workshop  Day 3 13th July 09

Group # 2, Members  IRINA ISHRAT, ASMA ALAM, UMME KULSUM

We were supposed to  think how  AUTHORITY and OTHERS can contribute  for improving students' proficiency in English

MONITORING THE IMPLEMENTATION

a)Emphasize more on the necessity of English in every sector of DIU

b)Marking system in test taking should be reviewed ,more marks in speaking and presentation can be proposed

              c) Forums and Clubs can be more active and participatory for motivating all in this regard

               d) Visionary, appropriate and dynamic senior professors from renowned public university who are considered as experts in home and abroad can be employed

                e) Teachers' training and seminar can be organized in this regard for making teaching technique more effective

f)university library should subscribe for more research journals so that teachers can get more research materials for improving their skill.

INVOLVING OTHERS

                    a) All speakers in any formal programmes of the university must speak in English, specially  in orientation programmes

                     b) All faculty members of all departments must speak in English in and outside class and they also can be benefited for self improvement and higher studies

                     c) Any official conversation between student and officials should also be in English

MORE IMPORTANCE ON READING

                     a) Everyday in campus there can be a reading hour for all  only for 15 to 20 minutes

                      b) Best reader of the year can be rewarded.

Dear Sir,

It's possible. I got class with 8th B at that time and the number of students are 19.

I have already talked with IT section and they are able to provide multimedia and OHP on the scheduled date. So the date is 19th, room 505, prince plaza, Sunday, time 1:00pm --2:00pm.

Hope it will be a successful session.

Best regards

Umme Kulsum

NB : The date and the number of students are same 19, isn't it funny! i have interest in numerology also.

Dear Sir,

I am so delighted for your proposal.Thank you very much. Yes,we can do it.

My students will love that, and they can do a presentation on it after doing that. I am afraid you might be very busy and i am bothering you. Is it possible to make it on 16th July, thursday at 1:00pm, in 505, Prince Plaza? Or do you have any convenient time?I have classes everyday( sat -thurs)  at 1:00 pm with different batches, you select a day and let me know.

We also can do it for M.A students, their class is from 6:30 to 8:00pm on every Sundays and Wednesdays but number of students are less.

Hope to get your reply. Looking forward to it.

Best regards

Dear Shibli Sir,

The students we are dealing with they have learned grammar for twelve years in Grammar Translation Method and we all know where they are!

So what i feel and also do take a diagnosis test from their writing and decide what are  the major lackings/mistakes and then decide what items should be dealt with and obviously that should be more application based(what nusrat madam says choosing interesting materials) rather than definition and example. Tense and Subject verb agreement are the  two areas where our students are weakest.

Best regards

Dear Sir,
I 've just finished reading it, your observation and writing is really nice. Thank you very much for raising these issues and and showing the light for solution.

But as a working woman how far can i perform the nevigation duty? And nowadays to maintain a better life(providing good schooling, food, entertainment) women need to do piloting. We can't be only like our grandmother generation.

What i agree with you is proper understanding between couple and in this case what i feel males should be more caring and cooperative towards the family specially to wife and children, only earning money and paying for everything is not all.
They have to think more and prioritize their activities. Males have to learn how to share life, have express their inner thoughts.
As a male he has got access to different sides of society other than female. So is'n't it more logical that they should raise(Educate) children(as they explore and know more!) but you see responsibility is to women who in most of the cases didn't study in university and do not  work out side. But if the kids are not proper  who is responsible? Mother.

Bottom line is we have to change our attitude towards each other and life as a whole.

Wish you all the best, and hope to read more from you.
