Title: "Poor man's cotton"
Post by: Alamgir Hossain on November 23, 2011, 01:28:15 PM
Cotton is the main natural fibre and it has been used in versatile area in textile sector. The annual consumption of cotton fibre has reduced recently due to increased price of cotton fibre. It has noticed that some synthetic fibre getting importance in place of cotton fibre. The most interesting news is that in the last few years the demand and consumption of polyester fibre is larger than cotton fibre.

The applications of polyester fibres are wide spread. It can be effectively used in home furnishings for products like carpets, curtains, pillow cases, upholstery etc, in industrial textiles, in auto motive industries, and mainly in the apparel industry. In the apparel industry, polyester fibres are used in every form of clothing due to its easy caring, and maintenance facility. It is widely used in garment manufacturing because of its tenacity, and durability. Since these fibres can be molded into any shape, certain insulating properties can be easily built in the fibre.

Polyester is the current main synthetic fibre globally. The price of polyester is low and it can be used in many aspects. So, it is rightly called as the “poor man’s cotton”.

some important facts to share with cotton world.
the use of cotton is less than polyester does not mean that the cotton is losing its its market. please be informed that the the cultivation land is not increasing but decreasing while population is increasing more than expectation.
so you have to look inside the use of cotton against production. polyester is man-made fiber and its raw materials are very easily available (petroleum).
please note that cotton is the king of kings of textile fibers, since the inception of fibers. believe me or not no fiber in coming centuries replace cotton. but the importance of cotton will increase, but may be production reduce, due to save the environment, and converting traditional methods into organic one.

price increase of cotton fibers is not concern but the concern is unscrupulous middle-men are making huge money while original growers of cotton are not getting their fair wages against their hard labors. there are many more international buyers who are always ready to pay higher price than market, but based on one condition that is the extra money should be paid to the growers of cotton. to ensure the right, we have created third party label name 'Fair for Life' (Fair Trade).
one important point to note that in future cotton will be become luxury of textile.

to know details in this matter you can have personal conversation or may ask for lectures or seminar. i always welcome this
