Psychological Disorder / মানসিক কষ্টে আছেন এমন মানুষকে যে কথাগুলো বলা উচিত নয় একেবারেই

ডিপ্রেশন ব্যথার কারণ আবার ব্যথাও ডিপ্রেশনের কারণ হতে পারে। সেরেটোনিন ও ডোপামিনের লেভেল একে অন্যের ভারসাম্যের জন্য কাজ করে। ব্যথার জন্যও অ্যাংজাইটি হতে পারে। এজন্য ইতিবাচক আচরণ, সামাজিক সম্পর্ক বজায় রাখা এবং কোন বিষয়টি আপনাকে সুখী করে তা খুঁজে বের করা জরুরি। নিয়তিতে বিশ্বাস করা আর আশাবাদী হওয়া এক বিষয় নয়।

এবার আসুন, আমরা এমন কিছু কথা জেনে নিই যেগুলো মানসিক কষ্ট বা ডিপ্রেশনে আক্রান্ত মানুষকে বলা ঠিক নয়।

১। কেউ ডিপ্রেশনে ভুগলে তাঁকে কখনোই বলা উচিৎ নয় যে, ‘তোমার চেয়েও খারাপ অবস্থায় অনেকেই আছেন’। বরং আপনি তাঁকে এই বলে আশ্বস্ত করুন যে, ‘তুমি একা নও, আমি আছি তোমার পাশে’।

২। চরম বিষণ্ণতায় ভুগছেন এমন মানুষকে ‘জীবনের সবকিছুই মানুষের অনুকূলে থাকেনা’ এই কথাটি বলবেন না। বলুন, ‘তুমি আমার জন্য অনেক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ’।

৩। তাঁকে সরাসরি, ‘তুমি বিষণ্ণতায় ভুগছ’ না বলে বলুন ‘এমন সময় জীবনে আসতেই পারে, বিষণ্ণ হওয়া খারাপ কিছু না’।

৪। ‘তোমার অবকাশ যাপনে যাওয়া উচিৎ’ এই কথাটি বলা ঠিক নয়। কারণ কোথাও বেড়াতে গেলেই সে ডিপ্রেশন থেকে সত্যিকার ভাবে মুক্ত হতে পারবেনা। নিউ ইয়র্ক বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের Langone Medical Centerএর মনোবিজ্ঞানের প্রফেসর, MD, Norman Sussman বলেন, ‘ডিপ্রেশন তাঁদের সাথে থাকে এবং তাঁরা ভালো অনুভব করছেনা এজন্য অপরাধ বোধে ভোগে’।

৫। ‘হাসো বা উল্লাস কর’ এই কথাটি বলে আপনি তাঁকে সবচেয়ে সহজ ও ভুল পথ দেখাচ্ছেন। Sussmanএর মতে এটা বলা আর একজন পা ভাঙ্গা লোককে হাঁটার চেষ্টা করতে বলা একই কথা।

৬। অ্যাংজাইটিতে ভুগছেন এমন মানুষ আপনি যখন বলেন যে, ‘তোমার কৃতজ্ঞ হওয়ার মত অনেক কিছু আছে’ তখন সে বিচার করে এইভাবে, ‘আমি সুখি হওয়ার জন্য কিছুই করিনি, আমি জীবনের প্রতি কৃতজ্ঞ না’। যিনি অ্যাংজাইটিতে ভুগছেন তিনি সবসময় লজ্জা ও অপরাধবোধে ভোগেন। আপনি যদি কোন ভাবে পরিমাপ করতে পারতেন তাহলে বুঝতে পারতেন যে, অ্যাংজাইটিতে ভুগছেন এমন মানুষ তাঁর শরীরের প্রতিটা বিন্দু দিয়ে চেষ্টা করেন ভালো থাকতে।  কেউ ইচ্ছা করে দুঃখী থাকতে চায় না।

 মানুষের স্বাস্থ্য রক্ষার ক্ষেত্রে তাঁর সামর্থ্য অনেক গুরুত্ব পূর্ণ। Bandura's theory of social action এর মতে, আপনার জীবনকে ভালো রাখার জন্য আপনার একটি পদক্ষেপই যথেষ্ট। আপনাকে বিশ্বাস করতে হবে যে আপনি ভিন্ন কিছু করবেন। আপনার ইতিবাচক আচরণ আপনার বিশ্বাস বাড়িয়ে দিবে। অদৃষ্টবাদ এই বিশ্বাস নষ্ট করে। অদৃষ্টবাদে বলা হয় যা হবার তা হবেই তুমি যত চেষ্টাই করনা কেন। তাই আপনাকে বিশ্বাস রাখতে হবে যে আপনি চাইলেই নিজের পরিস্থিতির উন্নয়ন করতে পারেন।

Nutrition and Food Engineering / ৬টি খাবার ভুলেও খালি পেটে খাবেন না কখনো

থেকে উঠে অনেকে অনেক কাজ করে থাকেন। কেউ খালি পেটে পানি পান করেন কেউ বা চা আবার কেউ খালি পেটে কফি পান করে থাকেন। কিন্তু আপনি কি জানেন খালি পেটে কোন খাবারগুলো খাওয়া উচিত আর কোন খাবারগুলো খাওয়া একেবারেই উচিত নয়? খালি পেটে লেবু পানি বা রসুনের কোয়া  খাওয়া স্বাস্থ্যের জন্য উপকারী তা আমরা জানি। এমন কিছু খাবার আছে যা দারুন স্বাস্থ্যকর, কিন্তু খালি পেটে খাওয়া একদমই উচিত নয়। 
১। সোডা জাতীয় পানি পান
খালি পেটে কোক, মিরিন্ডা, বা সোডা জাতীয় খাবার খেলে কি হবে? এই খাবারগুলো অ্যাসিড লেভেল বৃদ্ধি করে দেয়, যার কারণে অ্যাসিডিটি সমস্যা, বমি বমি ভাব এমনকি জ্বালাপোড়ার সমস্যা দেখা দিয়ে থাকে।
২। কলা
স্বাস্থ্যকর এই ফলটি খালি পেটে খাওয়া বেশ ক্ষতিকর। আমরা সবাই জানি কলা ম্যাগনেসিয়ামের একটি বড় উৎস। কিন্তু খালি পেটে কলা খেলে শরীরের ম্যাগনেশিয়ামের পরিমাণ বৃদ্ধি করে দেয়। যার কারণে শরীরে ম্যাগনেশিয়াম এবং ক্যালসিয়ামের মধ্যে ভারসাম্যহীনতা দেখা দেয়। যা হৃদয় ও রক্ত ধমনী জন্য ক্ষতিকর হয়ে থাকে। 
৩। টমেটো
টমেটোতে প্রচুর পরিমাণে পেকটিন এবং ট্যানিক অ্যাসিড রয়েছে। টমেটো খালি পেটে খেলে, ট্যানিক এবং পেকটিন অ্যাসিডের সাথে গ্যাস্ট্রিক অ্যাসিডের বিক্রিয়া ঘটিয়ে থাকে। যা পাকস্থলীতে পাথর সৃষ্টি করে।
৪। টক দই
স্বাস্থ্যকর টকদই ও খালি পেটে খাওয়া অস্বাস্থ্যকর। এটি আপনার হজম শক্তি নষ্ট করে দেয়। এমনকি টকদইয়ে পুষ্টিগুণ নষ্ট হয়ে যায় খালি পেটে এটি খাওয়ার কারণে।
৫। মিষ্টি আলু
মিষ্টি আলুতে টমেটোর মত পেকটিন এবং ট্যানিক অ্যাসিড রয়েছে। যার কারণে খালি পেটে খেলে পাকস্থলীতে পাথর হতে পারে। এমনকি এটি বুক জ্বালাপোড়া, গ্যাসিটের ব্যথার কারণও হয়ে দাঁড়ায়।
৬। মশলা জাতীয় খাবার
অতিরিক্ত ঝাল মশলা জাতীয় খাবার স্বাস্থ্যের জন্য ক্ষতিকর। খালি পেটে ঝাল মশলা জাতীয় খাবার খাওয়ার ফলে পাকস্থলীতে গ্যাস সৃষ্টি হয়ে থাকে, যা অ্যাসিডিটিসহ পেটে ব্যথার কারণ হয়ে থাকে।

Public Health / ইবোলার ভ্যাকসিন আবিষ্কৃত !

ইবোলার বিরুদ্ধে লড়াইয়ে বড়সড় সাফল্য চিকিৎসা বিজ্ঞানীদের। অবশেষে আবিষ্কৃত হল এই মারণ ভাইরাসের প্রতিষেধক। ইবোলার ভ্যাকসিন তৈরি করে গোটা বিশ্বকে তাক লাগিয়ে দিলেন কানাডার গবেষকরা। তবে আরও বেশ কয়েকটি কঠোর পরীক্ষা-নিরীক্ষার পরেই এটি বাজারে ছাড়া হবে।

জানা গিয়েছে, দীর্ঘ গবেষণার পরে ইবোলার ভ্যাকসিন (ভিএসভি-ইবিওভি) তৈরি করেছেন কানাডার ন্যাশনাল মাইক্রোবায়োলজি ল্যাবরেটরি’র গবেষকরা। পশু দেহে পরীক্ষা করা হয়েছে, যা চূড়ান্ত সফল। যে কারণে চূড়ান্ত পর্যায়ে পরীক্ষার জন্য ভ্যাকসিনটি সুইজারল্যান্ড পাঠাচ্ছে কানাডা সরকার। আগামী মঙ্গলবারের মধ্যে পরীক্ষামূলক এই ভ্যাকসিনের এক হাজারের বেশি ডোজ জেনেভা পৌঁছাচ্ছে। জেনিভা ইউনিভার্সিটি হসপিটাল (এইচইউজি)-এ স্টোর করে রাখা হবে।

এইচইউজি সূত্রে খবর, বিশ্ব স্বাস্থ্য সংস্থার নির্দেশিকা অনুসারে এই পর্যায়ে ভিএসভি-ইবিওভি ভ্যাকসিনগুলিকে মানব দেহে পরীক্ষার পালা। চলতি মাসের শেষ নাগাদ অথবা আগামী মাসে প্রথম থেকে শুরু হবে এই প্রক্রিয়া। আর পরীক্ষা সফল হলে তা হু’র হাতে তুলে দেয়া হবে। চিকিৎসা বিজ্ঞানের জগতে নতুন দিগন্ত খুলে যাবে।- ওয়েবসাইট।

Islam / গীবতকারী ও শ্রবণকারীর রক্ষা নেই

গীবত শব্দটির আভিধানিক অর্থ দোষারোপ করা, কুৎসা রটনা, পেছনে সমালোচনা করা, পরচর্চা করা, পরনিন্দা করা, কারো অনুপস্থিতিতে তার দোষগুলো অন্যেও সামনে তুলে ধরা। ইসলামি শরিয়তে গীবত হারাম ও কবিরা গুনাহ। যারা অগ্র-পশ্চাতে অন্যের দোষ বলে বেড়ায় তাদের জন্য ইসলামে ধবংসের দুঃসংবাদ রয়েছে। (মুসলিম)

পবিত্র কোরআনে আল্লাহপাক এরশাদ করেছেন, আর তোমরা অন্যের দোষ খুঁজে বেড়াবে না’। (সূরা আল-হুজুরাত,আয়াত-১২)

গীবতের সবচেয়ে উত্তম সংজ্ঞা দিয়েছেন রাসুলে পাক সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়া সাল্লাম। সাহাবি আবু হুরায়রা (রা.) থেকে বর্ণিত একটি হাদিস থেকে জানা যায়, হজরত মুহাম্মদ সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়া সাল্লাম বলেছেন, তোমরা কি জান গীবত কাকে বলে? সাহাবিরা বললেন, আল্লাহ ও তার রাসুল সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়া সাল্লামই ভালো জানেন। তিনি বলেন, তোমার কোনো ভাই (দীনি) সম্পর্কে এমন কথা বলা, যা সে অপছন্দ করে, তাই গীবত। সাহাবায়ে কেরাম জিজ্ঞেস করলেন, হে আল্লাহর রাসুল, আমি যে দোষের কথা বলি সেটা যদি আমার ভাইয়ের মধ্যে থাকে তাহলেও কি গীবত হবে? উত্তরে রাসুল সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়া সাল্লাম বলেন, তুমি যে দোষের কথা বল, তা যদি তোমার ভাইয়ের মধ্যে থাকে তবে তুমি অবশ্যই গীবত করলে আর তুমি যা বলছো তা যদি তার মধ্যে না থাকে তবে তুমি তার ওপর মিথ্যা অপবাদ দিয়েছো। (মুসলিম)

অনেকে ভাবতে পারেন আমিতো গীবত করি না। অন্যে বলে আমি শুধু শুনি। না, তাদেরও রক্ষা নেই। কারণ তারা গীবতকারীকে সাহায্য করছে এই পাপ কাজ করতে। গীবতকারী গীবত করার জন্য যদি কাউকে না পায় তাহলে সে আর গীবত করতে পারবে না। আর তাই গীবত শ্রবণকারীদের জন্যও রয়েছে আল্লাহর হুকুম। ইসলামের দৃষ্টিতে গীবত করা যেমন নিষেধ, তেমনি গীবত শোনাও নিষেধ। যে গীবত শোনে সেও গীবতের পাপের অংশীদার হয়ে যায়। হাদিস শরিফে আছে, যখন কেউ আপনার সঙ্গে বসে অন্যের গীবত করে তখন তাকে থামতে বলুন, আল্লাহর হুকুমের কথা স্মরণ করিয়ে দিয়ে সাবধান করুন। আর তাতেও যদি কাজ না হয় তবে সেখান থেকে সরে আসুন। কোনোভাবেই গীবত শোনা যাবে না।

গীবতকারীদের সম্পর্কে বলতে গিয়ে মহানবী হজরত মুহাম্মদ সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়া সাল্লাম বলেছেন, পরনিন্দাকারী জান্নাতে প্রবেশ করতে পারবে না। (বুখারী ও মুসলিম)

হজরত আনাস (রা.) থেকে বর্ণিত, তিনি বলেন, রাসুল সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়া সাল্লাম বলেছেন, যখন আমাকে মিরাজে নিয়ে যাওয়া হলো, তখন আমি তামার নখ বিশিষ্ট একদল লোকের পাশ দিয়ে যাচ্ছিলাম। তারা নখগুলো দিয়ে তাদের মুখমণ্ডল ও বক্ষদেশে আঘাত করে ক্ষত-বিক্ষত করছিলো। আমি জিজ্ঞেস করলাম, হে জিব্রাইল! এরা কারা? জিব্রাইল(আ.) বললেন, এরা দুনিয়াতে মানুষের গোশত ভক্ষণ করতো এবং তাদের মান-সম্মান নষ্ট করতো। অর্থাৎ তারা মানুষের গীবত ও চোগলখোরী করতো। (আবু দাউদ)

আয়েশা (রা.) থেকে বর্ণিত, মুহাম্মদ সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়া সাল্লাম বলেছেন, দুনিয়াতে যে ব্যক্তি তার ভাইয়ের গোশত ভক্ষণ করবে অর্থাৎ গীবত করবে, কিয়ামতের দিন গীবতকারীর সামনে গীবতকৃত ব্যক্তিকে মৃত অবস্থায় উপস্থিত করা হবে এবং বলা হবে তুমি মৃত অবস্থায় তার গোশত ভক্ষণ কর যেমনভাবে জীবতাবস্থায় তার গোশত ভক্ষণ করতে। অতঃপর সে অনিচ্ছা সত্ত্বেও চিৎকার করতে করতে তা ভক্ষণ করবে। (বুখারী)

সুতরাং অন্যের সমালোচনায় মত্ত না থেকে নিজের দোষগুলো খুঁজে বের করি আর আল্লাহর কাছে সাহায্য চাই যাতে করে নিজের দোষগুলো কাটিয়ে উঠতে পারি।

রাসুলুল্লাহ সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়া সাল্লামকে তার সাহাবিরা জিজ্ঞেস করেছিলেন, হে আল্লাহর রাসুল গীবত কি জেনার চেয়েও মারাত্মক? জবাবে তিনি বললেন, হ্যাঁ, কারণ কোনো ব্যক্তি জেনার পর (বিশুদ্ধ) তওবা করলে আল্লাহ ক্ষমা করেন। কিন্তু গীবতকারীকে যার গীবত করা হয়েছে, তিনি মাফ না করলে আল্লাহ মাফ করবেন না। (মুসলিম)

1. Give them more than the usual.

Think outside the standard wage and benefits box you provide to your employees. Observe them at work, and see what you can do to improve their work environment and make it a more welcoming and pleasant place to be. Ask your employees what their career goals are and help them achieve them. If your company has the budget, reward outstanding performance with extra perks such as gift cards for gas, dinner at a local restaurant for your employee and a guest, or a surprise day off with pay.

2. Hire people who will play nice.

Show your staff members that you care about them by making a point to hire people who are collaborative team players and are genuinely nice. You can pick them out because they're the ones who have that easy smile and warm handshake, and they sincerely care about their co-workers and customers.

3. Get the welcome mat out.

Make sure that new hires feel welcomed. Have an existing staff member--preferably a volunteer--mentor new hires until they get on their feet, and host a welcoming party with food and beverages so that everyone has a chance to meet your new hires in a relaxed setting.

4. Show your soft side.

Show that you're more than just the boss. Show that you genuinely care about your staff members by chatting with them about things other than work. Take a genuine interest in what they do outside of work. And really listen--the simple act of reflecting back to employees what they are trying to tell you confirms to them that you really are listening and that you really do care.

5. Let them boss themselves.

Don't act like you're better than your employees. Be more of a coach to your employees than a boss. Provide as much autonomy as possible to staff members to explore new ideas and complete projects their way, not your way. Agree with your people on specific goals and outcomes, and then let them figure out the best way to attain them.

6. Always have their backs.

It is always important to have your employees' backs, even if an issue has something to do with a customer. The customer is not always right. Show the members of your team that you respect and care about them by defending them when needed. And yes, sometimes that will mean losing a customer.

7. Be considerate.

Be thoughtful about your expectations. Overloading your staff by setting the bar too high or assigning too much work within a short time frame can undermine your efforts to gain the respect of your staff and could cause your employees to shut down or even quit. And that's an outcome neither you nor your employees can afford.

1. Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft

Don't be afraid of growth. Gates says, "You know, at Microsoft in 1975, even when we wrote down 'A computer on every desk and in every home,' we didn't realize, oh, we'll have to be a big company. Every time, I thought, 'Oh, God, can we double in size?'" Obviously, Gates got over his fear of growing a company, but the bigger lesson here is that being a mega corporation was never his goal. He had a passion project, a vision for a better future, and the means (and smarts) to see it through.

2. Steve Jobs, founder of Apple

English / 'Desire Under the Elms': Eugene O'Neill's Latest Play

"Desire Under the Elms," the first play by Eugene O'Neill to be produced since "Welded," was presented last night at the Greenwich Village Theatre and proved to be as unlike that drama as it was unlike "The Hairy Ape" or "The Emperor Jones." "Desire Under the Elms" reverts in character to the earlier "Beyond the Horizon," though it exhibits by comparison a fine progress in solidity and finish. It has less sentiment than this older piece and more passion; it is better written throughout; it has as much tragic gloom and irony but a more mature conception and a more imaginative austerity.

"Desire Under the Elms" is essentially a story of solitude, physical solitude, the solitude of the land, of men's dreams, of love, of life. The God behind the existence created on this New England farm is a harsh God, who is alone and is not understood. The minds of the people in this story are shaken and tinged with loneliness, with thwarted passion, with the trivial, the intense, the drab exaltation and denial of life. Underneath this solitude desire works, the redemption through love.

The children of old Cabot hate him. The youngest, the son of the second wife, remembers his dead mother, worked to death, and sees her about the place, risen from her grave. The father brings home a third wife. The two older sons go away to California; the younger stays and thinks to avenge his mother. In time he and the young wife come to love each other.

A son is born, which old Cabot thinks is to be heir to the farm, leaving the second wife's son adrift in the world. While a dance in honor of the new-born child goes on in the kitchen, the father and son quarrel outside; the son believes his father when he hears that the woman wanted a son only to cheat him out of the farm. He reviles her. To prove to him that it was the love of him and not the desire for the farm that had driven her to him, she kills the child. He runs off for the sheriff. The father turns the live stock loose in the woods and plans to go away, but when he finds the money gone from its hiding place, he believes that God another time has willed that he stand by the farm. The son returns from the sheriff's, he falls at the knees of the woman, takes part of the blame on himself, and they go away together to prison.

Robert Edmond Jones's setting for "Desire Under the Elms" was profoundly dramatic. The end of a New England farmhouse with its overhanging elms was for all practical purposes built there on the stage, with a wall of actual stone coming down to the footlights; a scene that was realistic but at the same time strangely and powerfully heightened in effect.

The general performance of the play was usually adequate though not often on a level with the writing. Mary Morris, however, whose career as the fair Gertrude in :Fashion" last year was one of the flowers of the season's acting, played the wife in "Desire Under the Elms," with a new and suppressed method that deepened at times into an admirable poignancy and a kind of grim, thin poetry that seemed the exact truth of her lines. Charles Ellis, though his work in the earlier scenes was less successful or convincing, played with real poetry the passage where the boy is possessed with love for the woman and for his child. Walter Huston as the old man was everywhere trenchant, gaunt, fervid, harsh, as he should be in the part. In his ability to cover his gradations, to express the natural and convincing emotion, and to convey the harsh, inarticulate life embodied in this extraordinary portrait that Eugene O'Neill has drawn, Mr. Huston showed his talent and proved to be the best choice possible for the role.

The scene of "Desire Under the Elms" that best illustrates the highest quality of the play is that in which we see the dance going on, the father outside the house, the young wife and her lover in the upstairs room in each other's arms beside the child's cradle, a scene written with such poetry and terrible beauty as we rarely see in the theatre, a scene that for these qualities of poetry, terror and at the same time unflinching realism rises above anything that Mr. O'Neill has written.

নেহারির নাম শুনলে জিভে জল আসে না এমন মানুষ মেলা কঠিন। নেহারি মূলত দিল্লীর খাবার। নেহারি শব্দটি আরবী ‘নাহার’ শব্দ থেকে এসেছে যার অর্থ হলো ‘ভোর’। মুঘল আমলে মুসলিম নওয়াবরা ফজরের নামাজ পড়ার পর ভোরবেলা নেহারি দিয়ে নাস্তা করতেন এবং এরপর একটা জমপেশ ঘুম দিতেন। পরবর্তীতে সর্বত্র ছড়িয়ে পড়ে নেহারি খাবারটি খাওয়ার প্রচলন। জেনে নিন সুস্বাদু এই খাবারটির সহজ রেসিপিটি।

উপকরণঃ

গরু বা খাসীর পায়া ২ কেজি
পেঁয়াজ কুঁচি ১ কাপ
আধা চামচ মরিচ গুঁড়া
হলুদ গুঁড়া সামান্য
আদা বাটা ২ চা চামচ
রসুন বাটা ২ চা চামচ
তেজপাতা ২টি
এলাচ ২টি
দারুচিনি ১ টুকরো
লবণ স্বাদ অনুযায়ী
পানি পরিমাণমতো।
ধনেপাতা
কাঁচামরিচ কুচি
লেবুর টুকরো

প্রস্তুত প্রণালিঃ

প্রথমে গরু বা খাসীর পায়াগুলো ভালো করে গরম পানি দিয়ে ধুয়ে পরিষ্কার করে নিন।
একটা বড় পাতিলে তেলে পেঁয়াজ ছেড়ে ভেজে নিন।
এরপর ধনেপাতা, কাঁচামরিচ ও লেবু বাদে সব মশলা একসঙ্গে ভালো করে কষিয়ে নিন।
পায়াগুলো কষানো মশলা দিয়ে পানি দিয়ে পাতিল ভর্তি করে দিন।
সব উপকরণ একসঙ্গে ৭-৮ ঘণ্টা জ্বাল দিন।
পায়ার মাংস সেদ্ধ হয়ে গেলে কর্নফ্লাওয়ার পানিতে গুলিয়ে দিয়ে নাড়তে থাকুন। একবার ফুটে উঠলে নামিয়ে ফেলুন চুলা থেকে।
ধনেপাতা ও কাঁচামরিচ ছিটিয়ে দিন উপরে। পরিবেশনের সময়ে লেবু দিন।
