Identify Research Problems / Formulating a research problem

Formulating a research problem
A research problem may take a number of forms, from the very simple to the very complex. The way you formulate a problem determines almost every step that follows:
•   clarify exactly what is to be determined or solved;
•   Research problem can not be borrowed; researcher has to find his own problem.
•    What type of study design that can be  used;
•    What type of sampling strategy that can be employed;
•    What research instrument that can be used or  developed and
•    What type of analyses that can be undertaken?

Identify Research Problems / Sources of research problems

Sources of research problems
Most research in the humanities revolves around four Ps: people; problems; programmes; phenomena.
The emphasis on a particular ‘P’ may vary from study to study but generally, in  practice, most research studies are based upon at least a combination of two Ps. You may select a group  of individuals (a group of individuals – or a community as such – ‘people’), to examine the existence of  certain issues or problems relating to their lives, to ascertain their attitude towards an issue (‘problem’),  to establish the existence of a regularity (‘phenomenon’) or to evaluate the effectiveness of an  intervention (‘programme’).

•   The purpose of a literature review is to:
•   Place each work in the context of its contribution to understanding the research problem being studied.
•   Describe the relationship of each work to the others under consideration.
•   Identify new ways to interpret prior research.
•   Reveal any gaps that exist in the literature.
•   Resolve conflicts amongst seemingly contradictory previous studies.
•   Identify areas of prior scholarship to prevent duplication of effort.
•   Point the way in fulfilling a need for additional research.
•   Locate your own research within the context of existing literature

Research and Publication / The quantitative approach
« on: February 16, 2020, 10:42:09 AM »
The quantitative approach involves the collection of quantitative data, which are put to rigorous quantitative analysis in a formal and rigid manner. It is used to quantify attitudes, opinions, behaviors, and other defined variables – and generalize results from a larger sample population. Quantitative data collection methods are much more structured than Qualitative data collection methods. Quantitative data collection methods include various forms of surveys – online surveys, paper surveys, mobile surveys and kiosk surveys, face-to-face interviews, telephone interviews, longitudinal studies, website interceptors, online polls, and systematic observations.

Research and Publication / Qualitative research
« on: February 16, 2020, 10:41:28 AM »
Qualitative research is used to gain an in-depth understanding of human behaviour, experience, attitudes, intentions, and motivations, on the basis of observation and interpretation, to find out the way people think and feel. It is a form of research in which the researcher gives more weight to the views of the participants. Case study, grounded theory, ethnography, historical and phenomenology are the types of qualitative research.

Abstract
Purpose – This study aims to investigate the extent and nature of corporate governance reporting (CGR) in
corporate annual reports of Bangladesh. The aim of the study to test empirically the relationship between
corporate governance (CG) and CGR by the listed companies in Bangladesh. The CG examined the proportion
of independent directors, board leadership structure, board size, ownership structure and audit committee size.
Design/methodology/approach – The study is based on a sample of 86 listed non-financial companies
in Dhaka stock exchanges (DSE) from the period of 2015-2017 and all the companies are selected by judgment
Sampling. The study has been used as an unweighted relative disclosure index for measuring CGR.
Findings – The empirical results indicate that board leadership structure (BLS) is positively associated with
the level of CGR. In contrast, the percentage of equity owned by the insiders to all equity of the firm is
negatively associated with the level of CGR.
Practical implications – Findings of this study have important implications for regulatory authority,
enforcement agencies such as Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh, Institute of
Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission, DSE, policymakers,
shareholders and others who have an interemaammast in CG.
Originality/value – Finding of the study will be a benchmark for policymakers and implementers in
torching the avenues of improvement in raising the level of CG reporting.

Managerial Accounting / Service costing
« on: August 27, 2019, 04:20:27 PM »
Service costing is a type of operation costing which is used in organizations which provide services instead of producing goods. In this method of cost accounting, all the costs incurred in the production of a service are added together. They are then divided by the total number of service units rendered.

Cost Accounting / Need for Reconciliation of cost and financial accounts
« on: December 08, 2018, 01:40:01 PM »
Reconciliation of cost and financial accounts is necessary due to the following two main reasons:
(a)   To find out the reasons for the difference in the profit or loss in cost and financial accounts.
(b)   To ensure the numerical accuracy and reliability of cost accounts  in order to have cost ascertainment, cost control and to have a check on the financial accounts.
