Environmental Science and Disaster Management / acid rain
« on: March 15, 2011, 04:51:44 PM »
"BBC flash news: Japan government confirms radiation leak at Fukushima nuclear plants. Asian countries should take necessary precautions. If rain comes, remain indoors first 24 hours, close doors & windows, swab neck skin with beta-dine where thyroid area is... Radiation hits thyroid first and then it starts to spray. Please take extra precautions."

Many students are asking whether they would come to university to take exam  tomorrow by taking the risk of acid rain. I could not answer them

Departments / some manners when you are in a lift
« on: March 07, 2011, 10:39:35 AM »
Lift has become a necessary part in our daily life who stay or work  in a multi storeyed buildings. Quite often, people who are in lift crowd near the door and as a result other people who want to get into the lift think that there is not sufficient space in the lift and they wait.
Sometimes, when a new person enters a lift, others (if there is a group) exchange humilating laugh with each other indirectly indicating that person and this is quite awkward for that person. The situation becomes more embarrassing when the lift doesn't move after a newcomer gets in.

I think we should arrange ourselves in a systematic way in a lift so that it can accommodate an optimum number of passengers. It will save both our energy and time.

Moreover, in a lift, if we are in a group we will not do anything which might make other person humiliated or belittled or offended.

The most important thing is that when we need to climb three floors, it is better to take stairs making way for others who need to climb many floors.

Departments / A compliment from a student makes a teacher's day!
« on: March 06, 2011, 02:40:19 PM »
Today, I came to DIU at 7:30am and was quite busy with making questions and checking scripts. I was passing hectic time.  When I was standing infront of the lift at 9:30am, one of my students greeted me and told me, "Ma'am, you always  speak very nicely with loving tone". She also said that it was not her personal opinion, the whole bacth thinks in this way. The moment I heard this, all my exhortion went away. The compliment energized my spirit and made my day.

I think, a teacher's potential is enhanced when they receive recognition from their students.

I am thankful to my students for all their compliments as these really enliven my teaching spirit.

Departments / again ID card issue
« on: February 28, 2011, 09:53:16 PM »
Despite encouraging our dear students to hang their ID cards around their necks, it is unfortunate to see that  a number of students still do not follow it while they are at campus. Quite often, I find students in lift without ID cards.

Talking to a security guard revealed the fact that students take off their ID cards as soon as they get into the lift. Even today I found that one female student was arguing in a very rude manner with a security guard as the security guard asked her to keep her ID card at display. However, when I asked the girl to comply with the rules of DIU, she followed it.

I would like to request all our dear students of DIU to wear their ID cards.

Internet / Fake Face Book Profile
« on: February 12, 2011, 11:58:53 PM »
I came to know about the existence of a fake face book account using my name and some pictures from one of my students. I saw that profile and was astonished to see the wrong information which is sometimes confusing the studnets of DIU. For example, there instead of Daffodil International University, the name of another university is there as my employer.

Though  I reported about it in the face book, it has not been closed. Is there any way, by which I can close this fake facebook profile?

Departments / How you view your teacher
« on: January 02, 2011, 09:36:11 PM »

Since I started going to school, I heard from my parents that teachers are next to your parents i.e they are like your parents. Since then on I have always nurtured respect for my teachers like my parents no matter how old they are. I think, in Asian culture, we view our teachers as our parents or guardians though in western culture the attitude towards teachers is different.

However, there are cases where students make fun of their teachers if the teachers consider the students as their children. It seems that now-a-days students don't want to consider their teachers as their parents or guardians. Does this indicate that the tradition of our teacher-student relationship is changing?

There are people who spit unscrupulously in an open space here and there. They pollute the environment and cause the rapid spread of contageous diseases. Some people even do not hesitate to spit in a shopping mall!

Let us create awareness about it by first making us stop doing this.

While you are Student / adopting unfair means
« on: November 09, 2010, 11:29:54 AM »
It has been noticed that some students have adopted unfair means in the mid-term exam. One of them told me that he could not even realize that I would be so sharp to catch him ( though I talked to him later).

Adopting unfair means in the exam means not only cheating the respective teacher but also cheating ownself. Because the result which a students gets through adopting unfair means is not his own. He can never claim to himself that his exam-result is entirely the fruit of his own effort.

Moreover, adopting unfair means indicates the lack of confidence which cannot be expected from a student of DIU. Because the DIU authority is leaving no stone unturned to increase the confidence of our studnets.

I would like to request all DIU students to be confident of their own preparation for exam and not to rely on any other means during exam.

Journalism & Mass Communication / Stop Eve Teasing Right Now
« on: November 04, 2010, 09:08:14 AM »
Eve teasing and the miseries caused by it have taken an alarming form in our country. It is really a matter of shame that in the age of globalization and digitalization, there exists a such a henious phenomena in Bangladesh.

The death of the college teacher Mr. Mizan and Ms. Chanpa Rani, a mother of four daughters are the victims who protested against the stalkers.

Besides, there are hundreds of cases where the victims commit sucide or their family members  are assaulted both physically and mentally. It is a pity that any stringent legal action against these stalkers has not yet been taken. I don't know how much sacrifices are required to pass a severe punishment for the stalkers.

There should be a scope for punishment when any stalker is caught at the beginning of his stalking. There is no point in waiting for the ultimate aftermath - death. We should stop a stalker immediately rather waiting to see how far he proceeds with his mean plan.

Departments / Speak English
« on: October 10, 2010, 12:12:18 PM »
All students are requested to communicate with each other and the teachers in English  in the campus of Daffodil International University, especially in English classes. Though at the beginning it might seem tough, it will gradually become easier through practice. I must admit that we all Bangladeshis are the proud speakers of Bangla but we should keep in mind that the ability to communicate in English is a passport to wider job prospect.  Even if anyone wants to introduce Bangladesh to the whole world the knowledge of English is a must.
The ability to communicate in English cannot be developed within a day - it requires a continual practice. University is the best place suitable for practise English as Daffodil International University is very serious to develop all fours skills of the students with special emphasis on Speaking skill. So I expect that all students will start communicating with each other in English and encourage their friends and classmates to use English for the development of the country

Departments / ID cards
« on: August 21, 2010, 09:55:32 PM »
Though the ID cards of most of the students are at display, some students seem to forget to do so despite the urge made by their teachers.

A university ID card expresses an identity of a person's being a studnet of that university. Carrying the ID card makes a student  always remember their responsibilities and duties. Moreover, they can feel that they are the proud member of Daffodil International University and this will definitely stimulate their urge to concentrate on their study with a view to making a better performance.

So I would like to request my dear students to always keep their ID cards at display whenever they are the premise of Daffodil International University.
