Textile Printing / What is digital printing?
« on: March 27, 2019, 04:31:03 PM »
Digital printing refers to methods of printing from a digital-based image directly to a variety of media. It usually refers to professional printing where small-run jobs from desktop publishing and other digital sources are printed using large-format and/or high-volume laser or inkjet printers. Digital printing has a higher cost per page than more traditional offset printing methods, but this price is usually offset by avoiding the cost of all the technical steps required to make printing plates. It also allows for on-demand printing, short turnaround time, and even a modification of the image (variable data) used for each impression. The savings in labor and the ever-increasing capability of digital presses means that digital printing is reaching the point where it can match or supersede offset printing technology's ability to produce larger print runs of several thousand sheets at a low price.

Research / What is Research?
« on: March 27, 2019, 04:28:56 PM »
Research is defined as a careful consideration of study regarding a particular concern or a problem using scientific methods. According to the American sociologist Earl Robert Babbie, “Research is a systematic inquiry to describe, explain, predict and control the observed phenomenon. Research involves inductive and deductive methods.”

Inductive research methods are used to analyze the observed phenomenon whereas, deductive methods are used to verify the observed phenomenon. Inductive approaches are associated with qualitative research and deductive methods are more commonly associated with quantitative research.

One of the most important aspects of research is the statistics associated with it, conclusion or result. It is about the “thought” that goes behind the research. Research is conducted with a purpose to understand:

1. What do organizations or businesses really want to find out?
2. What are the processes that need to be followed to chase the idea?
3. What are the arguments that need to be built around a concept?
4. What is the evidence that will be required that people believe in the idea or concept?

Specialized Wet Processing / Application of nano finishes on textiles
« on: March 27, 2019, 04:03:16 PM »
The unique and innovative properties of nanotechnology have invited interests of not just textile scientists but also businesses in a big way. The capabilities of such economically viable and functional technology have garnered attention from the textile industry and as a result of which we can find a number different kinds of finishes. The concept of nano finishing has given rise to many new applications and exceptional finishes. The word nano comes from the Greek word "Nanos" meaning "dwarf". The minuteness of a nano particle can be described as to 1, 00,000 times smaller than the diameter of human hair. One billion nanometers make one meter, hence nano materials can be infused into textile fabrics to avail different functions. Nanotechnology is the process of separation, consolidation, and deformation of materials by one atom or a single molecule. Application of nanotechnology in textile industry helps in developing existing performance and functions of textile materials and making intelligent textiles with new characteristics and properties. There are various nano finishes available at present and they are as follows:

UV Protective Finishing:The nano particles used in developing such kinds of finishes, which have heat, chemical, and electrical resistance, can block ultra-violet rays. The particles consist of clay nano flakes, which are composed of hydrous alumnio oscillates that are present in varied chemical combination and crystal structure. Besides this, metal oxides like zinc oxide are also used for UV protective finishes. The garments coated with such nano particles can protect from harmful rays and keep the skin safe from potential damage. Moreover, there are finishes available in the textile industry that provides UV protection with SPF (Sun Protection Factor).

Anti-pollen finishing: This is a special nano dispersion finishing that keeps pollens from sticking onto surface of the fabrics. Textile products bearing anti-pollen finish aid in fighting against health problems like pollen allergies and hay fever. Polymers that posses' anti-static and electro conductive properties are used which helps in keeping the surface smooth and prevents pollens and dust from settling on the surface of the fabric. Coats, gloves, blouse-on, bedding covers are made from such textile materials.

Anti-bacterial finish: Nano finishing to keep bacteria and fungi at bay have been developed to keep clothes and fabrics clean. Titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, and silver particles can help achieve such finishes. Metallic ions and compounds possess qualities to obtain anti-microbial effects. Silver particles especially are known to have large surface area, and when they come in contact with bacteria or fungi inhibit cell growth. Silver also has medicinal properties that can work in hindering the growth of infection, odor, itchiness and sores. Moreover, silver encapsulated dressing health products are used for healing wounds, burns, and scalds.
