COVID-19 Coronavirus Breathalyzer Test Developed

Few people who have undergone nasopharyngeal swabs for coronavirus testing would describe it as a pleasant experience. The procedure involves sticking a long swab up the nose to collect a sample from the back of the nose and throat, which is then analyzed for SARS-CoV-2 RNA by the reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Now, researchers reporting in ACS Nano have developed a prototype device that non-invasively detected COVID-19 in the exhaled breath of infected patients.

In addition to being uncomfortable, the current gold standard for COVID-19 testing requires RT-PCR, a time-consuming laboratory procedure. Because of backlogs, obtaining a result can take several days. To reduce transmission and mortality rates, healthcare systems need quick, inexpensive and easy-to-use tests. Hossam Haick, Hu Liu, Yueyin Pan and colleagues wanted to develop a nanomaterial-based sensor that could detect COVID-19 in exhaled breath, similar to a breathalyzer test for alcohol intoxication. Previous studies have shown that viruses and the cells they infect emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that can be exhaled in the breath.

The researchers made an array of gold nanoparticles linked to molecules that are sensitive to various VOCs. When VOCs interact with the molecules on a nanoparticle, the electrical resistance changes. The researchers trained the sensor to detect COVID-19 by using machine learning to compare the pattern of electrical resistance signals obtained from the breath of 49 confirmed COVID-19 patients with those from 58 healthy controls and 33 non-COVID lung infection patients in Wuhan, China. Each study participant blew into the device for 2-3 seconds from a distance of 1¬-2 cm. Once machine learning identified a potential COVID-19 signature, the team tested the accuracy of the device on a subset of participants. In the test set, the device showed 76% accuracy in distinguishing COVID-19 cases from controls and 95% accuracy in discriminating COVID-19 cases from lung infections. The sensor could also distinguish, with 88% accuracy, between sick and recovered COVID-19 patients. Although the test needs to be validated in more patients, it could be useful for screening large populations to determine which individuals need further testing, the researchers say.

About Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)


Recently, a new coronavirus - 2019 Novel (New) Coronavirus – that was first detected in China is now spreading worldwide. This virus causes a disease called COVID-19 and can lead to fever, cough and shortness of breath. There are thousands of confirmed cases in a growing number of countries internationally and the virus is now spreading in the United States. There are ongoing investigations to learn more about this virus.

Individuals who are experiencing symptoms and may have traveled to areas of concern, or have been in contact with somebody who has traveled to these areas, should call ahead to their health care provider before seeking treatment in person.

Important Health Information For Those Who Have Recently Traveled Internationally

If you recently traveled internationally to these areas of concern and feel sick with fever, cough or trouble breathing, you should:

Seek medical care right away. Call ahead and tell them about your travel and symptoms.
Avoid contact with others. Stay home, except for seeking medical care.
Avoid further travel until the illness resolves.
Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when coughing or sneezing.
Wash hands often with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds. If unavailable, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

Symptoms

The 2019 novel coronavirus may cause mild to severe respiratory symptoms like:

Cough
Fever
Trouble breathing and
Pneumonia

We believe at this time that symptoms may appear in as few as 2 days or as long as 14 days after exposure to the virus.

How Does Novel Coronavirus Spread?

Most of the early reported cases had contact with seafood and live animal markets, suggesting an animal source of the outbreak. However, most cases are now likely to be spread from person to person by droplets when coughing. Since this virus is very new, health authorities continue to carefully watch how this virus spreads.

Prevention

While there is currently no vaccine to prevent this virus, these simple steps can help stop the spread of this and other respiratory viruses:

Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Stay home when you are sick.
Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

‘Daffodil ICT Carnival-2019’ ends at Daffodil International University

Daylong ‘2nd Daffodil ICT Carnival 2019’ ended with colorful event on 26 October 2019 at Daffodil International University (DIU) Permanent Campus at Ashulia organized by Daffodil International University and Daffodil Family. Professor Dr. Sazzad Hossain, Member, IMCT, Research Support & Publication Division of Bangladesh University Grants Commission was present as the chief guest and distributed prizes among winners at the closing and prize giving ceremony of the carnival. Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees, DIU was present at the program as the Guest of Honor. Presided over by Professor Dr. Yousuf Mahbubul Islam, Vice Chancellor of DIU, Mr. Mohammad Nuruzzaman, CEO of Daffodil Family, Professor Dr. S M Mahbub Ul Haque Majumder, Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Mostafa Kamal, Dean of Permanent Campus, Professor Dr. Syed Akther Hossain, Head, Department of CSE, Dr. Touhid Bhuyan, Head, Department of Software Engineering, Dr. Sheikh Mohammad Allayer, Head, Department of MCT, Mr. Sorwar Hossain Mollah, Head, department of CIS were also present at the program.
Students from Daffodil International University and Daffodil Education Network participated in the carnival. From them, the jury board was selected top-10 projects for prize. The winners were awarded worth of Tk. 2 million.

The 1st position winning project was ‘Smart Home Automation System’ by the student of CSE. They are: Abdullal AL Yamin, Samsuzzaman Mia and Prosenjit Bairagi. The 2nd position winning project was ‘School 360’ by another group of student of CSE. They are: Sazzadur Rahman, Rakibul Islam and Borhan Uddin. The 3rd to 10th position are respectively: project ‘Remote Doctor’ by the student of Software Engineering, ‘Soil Monitoring System’ by the student of CSE, ‘DIU Campus Guide’ by the student of CSE (Permanent Campus), ‘Auto Controlling Poultry’ by the student of BSDI and DPI jointly, ‘Auction Management System’ by the student of CIS, ‘Bakery Management System’ by other group of student of CIS, ‘Happy Hub’ by the student of BSDI and DIPTI jointly, ‘Smart Farm through IOT’ by the student of CSE (Permanent Campus). Beside this the student of Daffodil International School, Daffodil International College and MCT Department of DIU were honored as special award.
While addressing as the chief guest Professor Dr. Sazzad Hossain said that Bangladesh is now going through a tunnel of dream. The name of the dream is to build a happy and prosperous Bangladesh. And it will be possible only for the strength of young generation. Now we have more than 8 cror young people. Bangladesh will be change through this talented generation, if we can guided and teach them properly. Daffodil International University is doing the work perfectly. He added.He also said that ICT carnival is an amazing idea for development of student’s creativity. Other university should follow this idea. He commented.
Dr. Md. Sabur Khan in his speech said that the future world would belong to information technology. So, it is quite impossible to sustain in that future world without enhancement of ICT knowledge. That’s why the carnival has been organized to encourage students of Daffodil Education Network for inventing new ICT ideas and projects. 
Dr. Sabur Khan informed the students that DIU management is trying to turn the campus as hi-tech park adding the facilities of innovation lab, Start up Market, Knowledge Velly for the students.   
He urged the students to utilize this opportunity developing innovate and internationally viable products & services. He also urged the students to develop the ideas based on the demands of customers requirements, As this is the time of globalization, so he urged the students to design their ideas as per based on consumers demand. 
Earlier in the morning, Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Daffodil International University along with Professor Dr. Yousuf M Islam, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. S.M. রোজায় সঠিক প্রোটিনের জন্য কী খাবেন?

চলছে রোজা। এই রোজায় ইফতার, রাতের খাবার ও সেহরিতে অনেকেই অনেক রকম খাবার খেয়ে থাকেন।  প্রতিদিনের পুষ্টির চাহিদা পূরণে কার্বোহাইড্রেট, প্রোটিন, ফ্যাট সঠিক পরিমাণে গ্রহণ করতে হয়।

প্রোটিন প্রতিদিন সঠিক মাত্রায় গ্রহণ করলে কিডনি ভালো থাকবে। তবে আমাদের দেশে ইফতারে অতিরিক্ত প্রোটিন গ্রহণ করার চল রয়েছে। এটি স্বাস্থ্যের জন্য ক্ষতিকর। মাত্রাতিরিক্ত প্রোটিন রক্তের ইউরিক এসিড বাড়িয়ে ফেলতে পারে। অথবা যাদের ডায়বেটিস রয়েছে, তাদের ইউরিনে পরিমাণের চেয়ে বেশি প্রোটিন বের হয়ে যেতে পারে। তাই সঠিক পরিমাণে, সঠিক প্রোটিন খেতে হবে।

ছোলা

রোজায় অনেকের ঘরেই ছোলা তৈরি করা হয়। অতিরিক্ত তেল আর মসলা দিয়ে তৈরি এই ছোলা প্রতিদিন খেলে তা শরীরের জন্য ক্ষতিকর। তেল রক্তের কোলেস্টেরল বাড়িয়ে দিতে পারে, আবার মসলা গ্যাস বা এসিডিটির কারণ।

প্রতিদিন ছোলা ইফতারে না খাওয়াই ভালো। একজনের জন্য ক্যালরিভেদে দুই থেকে তিন টেবিল চামচ ছোলার বেশি না খাওয়াই ভালো।

তবে সিদ্ধ ছোলা, শসা, টমেটো, লেবুর রস দিয়ে খেলে ভালো। এ ছাড়া টক দই দিয়ে ছোলার সালাদ করেও খাওয়া যেতে পারে।  তবে ছোলা প্রতিদিন ইফতারে না খাওয়াই ভালো। একজনের জন্য ক্যালরিভেদে দুই থেকে তিন টেবিল চামচ ছোলার বেশি না খাওয়াই ভালো।

পেঁয়াজু

ডালের তৈরি পেঁয়াজু দ্বিতীয় শ্রেণির প্রোটিন। ডুবু তেলে ভাজা পেঁয়াজু থেকে অনেক ক্যালরি পাওয়া যায়। এটি থেকে ওজন বেড়ে যেতে পারে। এমনকি টানা এক মাস খেলে রক্তের কোলেস্টেরল ও প্রেশার বাড়ার ঝুঁকি থাকে। তাই রোজ পেঁয়াজু না খেয়ে অল্প তেলে ভাজা সবজি আর চালের গুঁড়ার কাটলেট বা চপ খাওয়া যেতে পারে।

বেগুনি

সবজি হলেও বেসন দিয়ে ভাজার কারণে এ থেকে প্রোটিন চলে আসে। তাই রোজ ডুবু তেলে ভাজা বেগুনি না খাওয়াই ভালো।  এ ছাড়া বেসন রোজ খেলে তা শরীরের জন্য ক্ষতিকর।

ডিম

রোজায় ভাজাপোড়া খাওয়ার থেকে ইফতারে একটি সিদ্ধ ডিম  বা ডিম পোচ খেলে শরীরের জন্য ভালো।

মাছ

এটি স্বাস্থ্যের জন্য অনেক উপকারী একটি প্রোটিন। রোজায় ছোলা, পেঁয়াজু আর মাংসের ভিড়ে অনেকটাই হারিয়ে যায় মাছের মতো একটি ভালো প্রোটিন।  হার্টের স্বাস্থ্য রক্ষায় ও প্রোটিনের চাহিদা পূরণে মাছের জুড়ি নেই। ইফতারে মাছের চপ, স্যান্ডউইচ,  কাটলেট ছাড়াও মাছের নানা রেসিপি করা যায়। সেহরিতে ভাতের সঙ্গে মাছ আর সবজি খুবই উপকারী মেন্যু।

মাংস

রোজায় কমবেশি হলেও ভাজাপোড়া খাবার খাওয়া হয়। এতে তেলের কারণে হলেও কিছু ফ্যাট খাওয়া পরে। তাই রোজায় গরু-খাসির মাংস কম খাওয়াই ভালো। তবে মুরগির  মাংস দিয়ে ঘরে তৈরি হালিম, খিচুড়ি, স্যান্ডউইচ,  স্যুপ,  কারি ইত্যাদি পরিমিত পরিমাণে খাওয়া যেতে পারে।

দুধ

আদর্শ এই তরল, প্রোটিনের পাশাপাশি ক্যালসিয়াম ও ফসফরাসের খুব ভালো উৎস।  রোজায় হাড়ের ব্যথা, মাংসপেশির সুরক্ষার জন্য রোজ দুধ বা দুধের খাবার খেতে হয়। ইফতারে দুধের বানানো মিষ্টান্ন,  দই, ছানা এবং সেহরি বা রাতের খাবারে দুধ, ভাত, ফল বা দুধ-মুড়ি-ফল বা সিরিয়াল দুধ খুবই উপকারী একটি খাবার।

সম্পূর্ণ রোজায় সুস্থ থাকতে পরিমিত পরিমাণে সঠিক প্রোটিনযুক্ত খাবার খাওয়া আপনাকে সুস্থ রাখতে সাহায্য করবে।

In the arc of every modern technology’s development, a great deal of attention is generally initially focused on the technology itself. From early sales and marketing encounters with customers, through those customers' purchase and use of the products and into the realm of customer service and support, AR and VR are becoming more and more useful.

Examples: AR applications, such as WayfairView, include software that shows how furniture will look in a customer’s home. Prospective buyers can use a phone or tablet’s camera to see how their homes will look with a variety of different furniture pieces before they make a purchase decision. For industrial facilities, manufacturing managers can see how a new piece of equipment might fit into their workflow: The new assembly or manufacturing process can also be visualized through the camera of a phone or tablet while the manager walks through the existing plant.

AR, then, will result in a better understanding of how these products and solutions will benefit the manufacturing facility and increase companies' propensity to buy. They'll be able to see troubleshooting and maintenance instructions overlaid directly onto a physical product as they are working on it, resulting in shorter downtimes, improved productivity and deeper brand loyalty.

Virtual reality, for real
VR applications, meanwhile, enable customers to immerse themselves in a digital space -- such as a hospital, laboratory or oil refinery -- illustrating how complex products and solutions work and helping them understand how they would navigate and use these new products. At Cisco Live in June 2017, Dell EMC utilized a VR application developed by my company, Kaon Interactive, for its enterprise prospects and customers.

The application showed attendees and partners how they could visualize their own IT transformation with converged and hyper-converged solutions. These enhanced experiences were intended to create a deeper understanding of the company’s differentiated value propositions. For existing customers, VR simulators will help train personnel before they operate real machinery-- the way flight simulators are used for pilots -- but without the expense of complex physical systems in the real world.

As these solutions become more mainstream, in terms of devices and software, they are losing some of their technology focus and beginning to gain a more integrated status as components or features of larger products and solutions. Consumers and B2B buyers, for their part, are developing an awareness of, and even an expectation for, these kinds of experiences when they interact with almost every company.

For every entrepreneur attempting to build a more engaging and lasting relationship with his or her company’s prospects and customers, AR and VR are important capabilities to include in planning how their current engagement strategies will evolve. And special gadgets won't necessarily be a part of the mix: Rather than having to have a separate device for an AR experience, users will simply use the phones and tablets they use already (Google and Apple have released or announced platforms that allow software developers to build AR applications and capabilities into their Android and iOS applications).

Similarly, while today's VR headsets are somewhat cumbersome, requiring cables and sensors attached to a PC, these devices, too, are rapidly evolving, using wireless and even mobile devices (e.g. the Google Daydream).

This evolution to the mainstream will allow businesses to build AR and VR features into larger and more holistic applications, creating a complete set of capabilities for even more meaningful customer experiences.

Robots could soon be built with human flesh

Scientists want to cover robots in muscle fibers and tissues so that resemble human beings

If all goes well, we could very soon see robots being made with human flesh. Before you freak out, the purpose of the robot-dress up is to help those people who need tissue transplants.

Two University of Oxford biomedical researchers, Pierre-Alexis Mouthuy and Professor Andrew Carr, writing in Science Robotics, argue that moving humanoid robots could help create muscle and tendon grafts that actually work.

The researchers pointed to existing robots, including the Eccerobot, a plastic machine with ‘human’ bones, tendons and skin, to explain how future bots will grow real tissue.

They said: “Over the past decade, exciting progress has been made in the development of humanoid robots. In particular, musculoskeletal humanoids (such as Kenshiro and Eccerobot) were developed to interact with humans in a safer and more natural way. They aim to closely replicate the detailed anatomy of the human musculoskeletal system including muscles, tendons, and bones. We suggest that musculoskeletal robots may assist in the growth of musculoskeletal tissue grafts for tissue transplant applications.”

Adding further, they said, “With their structures activated by artificial muscles, musculoskeletal humanoids have the ability to mimic more accurately the multiple degrees of freedom and the normal range of forces observed in human joints.

“As a result, it is not surprising that they offer new opportunities in science and medicine”.

Today, sheets of cells are grown in stagnant tanks, but these “fail to mimic the real mechanical environment for cells,” say the scientists.

As a result, these tissues are often too weak to be effective – especially for “bone-tendon-muscle grafts… because failure during healing often occurs at the interface between tissues”.

Instead, we need a robot with “structures, dimensions, and mechanics similar to those of the human body”.

As tissue grows on the robot, it would receive the same stresses as it would face on a real human, creating stronger and healthier tissue for harvesting.

“It is now both technically possible and scientifically pertinent to explore in greater detail the potential of humanoids as tools for regenerative medicine,” conclude the researchers.

What’s more this would be a step towards “biohybrid humanoids” – bots of the future whose human muscles, tendons, and skin can self-repair.
