রাস্তা দিয়ে যাওয়ার সময় হঠাৎ করে তাকিয়ে দেখি ইলেট্রিক পোলের সাথে একটি কাগজ ঝুলছে। উৎসাহ নিয়ে সামনে এগিয়ে দেখি কাগজের গায়ে লেখা,
''আমি ৫০ টাকার একটা নোট হারিয়েছি। আপনারা যদি কেউ খুঁজে পান তবে আমাকে সেটি পৌছে দিলে বাধিত হব, আমি চোখে খুব কম দেখি"।
তারপরে নিচে একটি ঠিকানা । আমি এরপর খুঁজে খুঁজে ঐ ঠিকানায় গেলাম। গিয়ে দেখি দাওয়ায় এক বয়স্ক মহিলা বসে আছেন। আমার পায়ের আওয়াজ পেয়ে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন কে এসেছে। আমি বললাম, মা, আমি রাস্তায় আপনার ৫০ টাকা খুঁজে পেয়েছি আর তাই সেটা ফেরত দিতে এসেছি। এটা শুনে মহিলা ঝরঝর করে কেঁদে দিয়ে বললেন, ' বাবা, এই পর্যন্ত অন্তত ৩০-৪০ জন আমার কাছে এসেছে এবং ৫০ টাকা করে দিয়ে বলেছে যে তারা এটি রাস্তায় খুঁজে পেয়েছে। বাবা, আমি কোন টাকা হারাই নাই, ঐ লেখাগুলাও লিখি নাই। আমি খুব একটা পড়ালেখা জানিও না।' আমি বললাম, আপনি টাকাটা রেখে দিন। ফেরার সময় তিনি বললেন, 'বাবা, একটা অনুরোধ তুমি যাওয়ার সময় ঐ কাগজটা ছিড়ে ফেলো। ' আমি উনার বাড়ি থেকে বের হওয়ার সময় ভাবছিলাম, সবাইকে উনি বলার পরেও কেউ ঐ কাগজটি ছেড়েনি। আর মনে মনে ভাবছিলাম ঐ মানুষটির কথা যিনি ঐ নোটটি লিখেছেন। ঐ সহায়সম্বলহীন বুড়ো মানুষটাকে সাহায্য করার জন্য এত সুন্দর উপায় বের করার জন্য তাকে মনে মনে ধন্যবাদ দিচ্ছিলাম। হঠাৎ ভাবনায় ছেদ পড়লো একজনের কথায়। তিনি এসে বললেন, 'ভাই, এই ঠিকানাটা কই বলতে পারেন, আমি একটি ৫০ টাকার নোট পেয়েছি , এটা উনাকে ফেরত দিতে চাই।'

ঠিকানাটা দেখিয়ে দিয়ে হঠাৎ করে দেখি চোখে জল চলে আসলো, আর আকাশের দিকে তাকিয়ে বিড়বিড় করে বললাম, দুনিয়া থেকে মানবতা শেষ হয়ে যায়নি!

মানুষ সামাজিক জীব, এই কথাটা সেই ছোটবেলা থেকেই আমাদের পাঠ্যপুস্তকে অন্তর্ভুক্ত হয়ে আছে। মানুষ বসবাস করে সমাজে, একে অন্যের সাথে মিলেমিশে। আর এই ক্ষেত্রটাতেই বন-জঙ্গলের নানান জীব থেকে মানুষ প্রথমেই আলাদা হয়েছে সামাজিকতার জন্য।

“সমাজ” এর সংজ্ঞাটা কিছুটা কঠিন, একটা সুন্দর সমাজের বেশকিছু বৈশিষ্ট্য থাকে। তবে, প্রথম বৈশিষ্ট্যই হলো- মানুষের দলবদ্ধভাব, যেটা সভ্যতার শুরু থেকেই মানুষের ছিল। সেই থেকেই মানুষের 'একতা', 'দলবদ্ধতা', 'সমাজ' আর 'সামাজিকতা' শব্দগুলোর জন্ম।

বর্তমান সভ্যতা আগের অবস্থা থেকে অকল্পনীয় গতিতে এগিয়ে এখনকার পর্যায়ে এসেছে। বর্তমান যুগে এসেছে ডিজিটাল প্রযুক্তি, আছে নানারকম যন্ত্রানুসঙ্গ, যা মানুষের জীবনকে একদিকে সহজও করেছে, অন্যদিকে পুরো পৃথিবীকেও এনে দিয়েছে হাতের মুঠোয়। কিন্তু, সেই সামাজিকতা, একতা, দলবদ্ধতা, সুন্দর আচার-ব্যবহার এবং সমাজ সংস্কারে আজকালকার মানুষেরা কতটা সচেষ্ট?

“মানুষ মানুষের জন্য” এই কথাটা ভাবামাত্রই চোখের সামনে স্পষ্ট চিত্র ভেসে ওঠে, যেকোন সমস্যায় প্রতিকূলতায় প্রত্যেকটা মানুষ একে-অপরের পাশে দাঁড়াচ্ছে। একজন অন্যজনকে সাহায্য করছে। কিন্তু, এটাই হওয়া উচিত হলেও, বর্তমান সময়ে এসে যেন মানুষের সামাজিকতা অজানা কারণে অনেকটা ফিঁকে হয়ে গেছে। সবাই চারপাশে ছড়িয়ে-ছিটিয়ে একসঙ্গে থাকলেও, কেউ কারও বিপদে-আপদে পাশে নেই। প্রত্যেকে ব্যস্ত যার যার ভাবনায়, স্বার্থে। একতা নেই। এই ফাঁক-ফোকর থেকেই জন্ম হয়েছে নানা অনাচারের, যা সমাজকে কুড়ে কুড়ে খায়।

এই সমাজে আমাদের বেঁচে থাকাটা সেদিনই স্বার্থক হবে, যেদিন আমাদের ভালো থাকার পাশাপাশি আশেপাশের কাউকেই খারাপ থাকতে হবে না। আর বেঁচে থাকার এই স্বার্থকতা রক্ষার জন্যই, আমাদের এই ছোট একটি উদ্যোগের নামই 'সমাজ'।
এর উদ্দেশ্য সেদিন ই স্বার্থক হবে, যেদিন-

 দু’বেলা অনাহারে থাকা মানুষগুলোর মুখে অন্ন জুটবে

 পথে পথে ঘুরে বেড়ানো বস্ত্রহীন মানুষ নিজের লজ্জা নিবারণের সুযোগ পাবে

 শিক্ষাবঞ্চিত শিশুদের হাতে থাকবে পুস্তক

 অনাথ বাচ্চাগুলো পাবে তাদের অবহেলিত অধিকার ও নিরাপত্তা

 বৃদ্ধ বয়সে আর কাওকে নিঃসঙ্গ থাকতে হবে না

 সামান্য কিছু টাকার অভাবে হারাতে হবেনা মূল্যবান জীবন

 প্রতিটা মানুষের মনে, নতুন প্রজন্মের মনে জন্ম নিবে গণসচেতনতা

ঠিক এই রকম একের পর এক ধাপ পেরিয়েই গড়ে উঠবে নতুন “সমাজ”, জন্ম নিবে নবচেতনা। অজস্র মানুষের চোখের জল যেদিন মুছবে, মানুষের জীবনে আসবে ইতিবাচক পরিবর্তন, সেদিন ই সফল হবে “সমাজ” এর উদেশ্য। এই পর্যন্ত আমাদের সমাজে অনেক সংগঠন আত্বপ্রকাশ করেছে এবং তারা পৃথকভাবে সমাজের ও সমাজের মানুষের জন্যে কাজ করে যাচ্ছে। কিন্তু, এই “সমাজ” এর আরেকটি উদ্দেশ্য হচ্ছে সেই পৃথক সংগঠন গুলোকে সাথে নিয়ে শুধু সমাজকে নয়, বরং দেশ কেও বদল করা। কারণ কথাই আছে- “একতাই বল”...

আশা করছি ছোট এই উদ্যোগে সবাইকে পাশে পাব। কারণ এখনি সময় পরিবর্তনের...আর গড়ে তোলার নতুন এক “সমাজ”

Little did Gunnar Garfors's parents realise when they took him on his first holiday to Greece as a one-year-old child quite what an adventure that had set in motion.

Fast forward 36 years, and the Norwegian native has journeyed to each and every one of the 193 nations on Earth recognised by the UN, as well as five others - Kosovo, Palestine, Taiwan, the Vatican and Western Sahara.

And to cap it all off, he managed to do it without having to quit his job. Being the head of an international media company has allowed Garfors to work from his laptop while on the road, but his feat is impressive nevertheless.

An intrepid explorer anyway, he finally decided to reach every nation on the planet after a holiday in Kazakhstan back in 2004. After that he journeyed to all the "stan" countries and was then challenged by a friend who bet him 193 beers (one for each country) that he couldn't visit each nation on Earth, he told FoxNews.com.

And a determined Garfors finally completed his challenge when visiting the island nation of Cape Verde off the coast of Africa in 2013.

He recorded all his experiences on his blog and has even penned a book 198: How I Ran Out Of Countries offering tips to other adventurous tourists.

The UN’s latest global population statistics were dumped online this week in the form of a huge, impenetrable spreadsheet. What the complex figures obscure is a landmark that has huge consequences for the way we all live: we are about to pass the point where more people on the planet will be above 30 years of age than younger. We have reached ‘peak youth’.

The total number of young people in the world is starting to plateau. Today, we have the largest global youth population in history, and this mass will remain for several decades before beginning to shrink later this century.

This will happen within the lifetimes of many alive today. Asia’s vast youth population, on which much of the past century’s economic progress has depended, is already beginning to shrink. By 2050 one in three young people in the world will be African.

With world leaders having set themselves a deadline of agreeing historic goals on poverty, inequality and climate change by the end of this year, this simple fact has huge ramifications.

Secretary of State for International Development Justine Greening has already posed an important question on the world stage: what happens when 600 million young people, mostly in Africa and Asia, enter a job market with little work available for them to do?

For decades, both richer and poorer nations have relied on ever-growing young populations to fill their workforces and to expand their tax bases, but this has led to complacency over the waste of their potential - young people still make up 41% of the world’s unemployed.

 

Our notion of youth, too, is changing. Even these statistics are based on youth as 15 to 24 years old, but this definition is changing. The transition to adulthood is being stretched in both developing and more developed countries, as any young person in the UK (or their parents) well knows.

The power of youth is that they are neither dependent children nor fully independent adults. Young people are a vital group facing huge personal challenges, challenges on which society collectively succeeds or fails. Youth is not an age bracket, it is the passing from dependency to independence. It is a transition full of potential.
