Common Forum / The World's Fastest Roller Coasters
« on: November 29, 2010, 03:06:44 PM »
Do you have a need for speed? Want to test your mettle against the world's speediest metal behemoths? The world's 10 fastest roller coasters are all made of steel (no wood coaster currently cracks the list), come in a variety of designs, and use an assortment of launch systems to catapult their rides into the record books. Hang on tight. Five of the fastest roller coasters reach or exceed 100 mph.

1: Formula Rossa- 149 mph
Formula Rossa accelerates from 0 to 100 km (62 miles) in 2 seconds, climb 52m (171 feet), and riders experience 1.7 Gs. Formula Rossa starts inside the indoor theme park, accelerates through the dome, travels outside the park, and returns to the loading station inside the building. The train's cars look like flashy red Formula One Ferraris.

Common Forum / 13 What is the root of these fears?
« on: November 23, 2010, 10:19:22 AM »
Imagine being issued boarding pass number 13 just before entering an airplane, or walking into a stadium and searching for your seat… seat number 13! How would you feel? Have you ever noticed how people become uneasy at the association of the number 13? What is the root of these fears?
The number 13 has been a mysterious obsession, to the point where many buildings do not have a 13th floor, and hotels often omit the room number 13. In the legal field, attorneys may consciously choose to sign documents on either the 12th of 14th of the month, avoiding the dreaded 13th. Gamblers may opt out on the 13th, and surgeons avoid scheduling important medical procedures on that day. Even in DIU we don’t use 13 as the subject code.
So it’s obvious that fears regarding the number 13 still exist, and therefore precautions must be taken, but from where did these fears originate?
There are many cultural legends that perpetuated the allure of the number 13. Some relate the fear of 13 to Norse mythology, where Loki, one of the more evil figures, became the 13th guest at a party and ended up causing the death of the god of light. In Rome, witches would gather in groups of 12 members, and the 13th guest was said to be a bringer of evil. On Friday, October 13, King Philip IV of France ordered the arrest of the Grand Master and Knights of the Knights Templar. In Christianity, there were 13 attendees at the last supper, and Friday was believed to be the day of Christ’s crucifixion.
In numerology, the number 12 is associated with fulfillment and completion. For example, there are 12 months in a year, 12 on a clock face, 12 items in a dozen, and 12 signs of the zodiac. The number 13 suffers much wrath simply because of its position following the number 12, leaving a feeling of uncertainty or imbalance.
In an attempt to remove much of the negative stigma, people are rediscovering the allure of the number 13. Modern paganism and Wicca have embraced the number 13, understanding that there are positive aspects of the number 13 that can balance the negative.
In numerology, 13 is reduced to the equation 1+3 = 4. Four is a number representing balance and totality. There are four elements, and four directions.
So what do you think?any idea?

A bird does not sing because it has an answer. It sings because it has a song.

A bit of fragrance clings to the hand that gives flowers.

A book holds a house of gold.

A book is like a garden carried in the pocket.

With money you can buy a clock but not the time

With money you can buy a bed but not the sleep

With money you can buy a book but not the knowledge

With money you can buy food but not the health

With money you can buy a position but not the respect

With money you can buy a house but not the home.

Birth:
Fatimah Zahra [a.s] the only daughter of the Holy Prophet Mohammed [PBUH] of Islam, was born in Mecca on 20th jumada th-thaniyah 18 B.H.
The good and noble lady Khadijah (a.s) and the Apostle Of Allah bestowed all their natural love, care and devotion on their lovable and only child Fatimah, who in her turn was extremely fond of her parents.

Character:
The Princess of the House of the Prophet, was very intelligent,
accomplished and cheerful. Her sermons, poems and sayings serve,
as an index to her strength of character and nobility of mind.
Her virtues gained her the title Our Lady of Light. She was tall,
slender and endowed with great beauty, which caused her to be called
az-Zahra (the Lady of Light). She was called az-Zahra
also because her light used to shine among those in heaven.

Marriage:
After arriving in Medina , she was married to Hazrat Ali (a.s),
in the first year after Hijrah,

She gave birth to three sons and two daughters. Her children, Hasan, Husayn, Zaynab and Umm Kulthum are well-known for their piety, goodness and generosity. Their strength of character and actions changed the course of history.
The Holy Prophet [PBUH] said, Fatimah AS is a piece of my heart.
He would go out to receive his daughter whenever she came from
her husbands house. Every morning on his way to the Mosque,
he would pass by Fatimahs house and say, as-Salamu alaykum ya ahli
bayti n-nubuwwah wa madani r-risalah (peace be on you O the
Household of Prophethood and the Source of Messengership).

The Best Woman:
Fatimah is famous and acknowledged as the Sayyidatu nisai l-alamin
(Leader of all the women of the world for all times) because
the Prophethood of Muhammad would not have been everlasting
without her. The Prophet is the perfect example for men,
although Fatima (a.s) compliments his teachings toward and for women . For all the verses revealed in
the Holy Quran for women, Fatimah is the perfect model, who
translated every verse into action. In her lifetime, she was a
complete woman, being Daughter, Wife and Mother at the same time.
As a daughter, she loved her parents so much, that she won their
love and regard to such an extent that the Holy Prophet used to rise,
whenever she came near him. As a wife, she was very devoted.
she never asked Hazrat Ali (A.S) for anything in her whole life.
As a mother, she cared for and brought up wonderful children;
they have left their marks on the face of the world, which
time will not be able to erase.

Be Alert / 10 Biggest Brain Damaging Habits
« on: September 15, 2010, 10:17:21 PM »
No breakfast

People who do not take breakfast are going to have a
lower blood sugar level. This leads to an insufficient
supply of nutrients to the brain causing brain
degeneration.

Overeating
It causes hardening of the brain arteries, leading to
a decrease in mental power.

Smoking
It causes multiple brain shrinkage and may lead to
Alzheimer disease.

High Sugar Consumption
Too much sugar will interrupt the absorption of
proteins and nutrients causing malnutrition and may
interfere with brain development.

Air Pollution
The brain is the largest oxygen consumer in our body.
Inhaling polluted air decreases the sup ply of oxygen
to the brain, bringing about a decrease in brain
efficiency.

Sleep Deprivation
Sleep allows our brain to rest. Long term deprivation
from sleep will accelerate the death of brain cells.

Head covered while Sleeping
Sleeping with the head covered, increases the
concentration of carbon dioxide and decrease
concentration of oxygen that may lead to brain
damaging effects.

Working your Brain during Illness
Working hard or studying with sickness may lead to a
decrease in effectiveness of the brain as well as
damage the brain.

Lacking in Stimulating Thoughts
Thinking is the best way to train our brain, lacking
in brain stimulation thoughts may cause brain
shrinkage.

Talking Rarely
Intellectual conversations will promote the efficiency
of the brain.

Common Forum / Program change procedure
« on: September 04, 2010, 07:30:19 PM »
Being a student of a university  its a turning point to set ur mind goal career so at first decide in which track u wanna build ur career then select the dpt. at the time of admission.U better understand in which way u can do best use of ur inner talent. sometimes we see some students select their dpt traditionally but who knows s/he might do far better in some other program in which they will get really interesting. Here we offer such courses each of which has its own career sector where students can make a really good future. Some newly admitted students are found indecisive to select their program and initially they get admission in one subject and after a while they wanna change the dpt. DIU is always facilitates students demand and here we are flexible for them and permit them to change their dpt at least after completion of one semester cause at initial stage dpt offer more or less same courses. Here is the procedure of Program change I think this will help you to get acknowledged.
After final exam result publication and before Registration in new semester is the perfect time for Dpt change.A rough transcript is mandatory to submit during this process (procedure will be described later)
1.Collect the program change Form from Dpt or Admission Office
2.Fill the students part.
3.Collect the signature of present program's Head and Future program's Head
4.Pay the program change fee (2500 tk ) to the accounts and get the signature of the accounts dpt.If you dont have any previous dues and paid the program change fee then they will sign on it.
5.By this time collect a rough trascript from exam section. Then submit the form along with 2500 tk money receipt and rough transcript to Dean Office. If you wanna change ur faculty in that case you need to submit it to both Dean Offices of two Faculties. In case of FBE its not Dean Its Advisor. But for FSIT and FHSS its Dean.
6.Then after 2/3 days collect your new ID no of new dpt from admission office and do your registration in this new ID number after clearing Registration fees for new dpt.
7.Finally you have to apply for a new ID card to the counseling office and you need to submit the previous one while collecting the new one.

How to get a rough transcript
1.Write an application to the Controller of Examination
2.Pay taka 50 to the accounts and get signed from there that you dont have any dues.
3.Submit the application to the Controller of Examination along with the money receipt to get the signature of Controller sir.
4.After signing submit it to the Exam Section (in b2in Main campus and Library you will find a stairs second floor of that building). They will declare an issue date to collect a rough transcript.

Nutrition and Food Engineering / CELL PHONES AND HEALTH
« on: August 12, 2010, 05:27:57 AM »
One of the most common sights we see these days, is that of people with their mobile phones next to their ears. A boon for better communication, cell phone usage nonetheless has many health hazards. Various studies indicate that the emissions from a cell phone can be extremely harmful, causing genetic damage, tumors, memory loss, and increased blood pressure and weakening of the immune system. This is alarming information, and one has to take into account all these factors..

CELL PHONES AND HEALTH
Though there is no evidence of cell phones causing cancer or any such illness, but the suspicion, or fear of the same is not baseless either. The electromagnetic radiation from cell phones does have a potential link to cancer. The fact that this radiation is invisible, intangible, and enters and leaves our bodies without our knowledge makes it even more intimidating.

Possible hazards:
* Two minutes of exposure to emissions from mobile phones can disable a safety barrier in blood causing proteins and toxins to leak into the brain, could increase chances of developing Alzheimer's multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's. (Scientists at Sweden's Lund University)
* Scientists say exposure to the phones' low-level radiation causes red blood cells to leak hemoglobin and can lead to heart disease and kidney stones.
* Recent studies suggesting a link between cell-phone use and brain tumors, and the possibility that the microwaves could ignite petroleum fumes at gas stations.
* A cell phone unit, or communications tower, has so many of thee radiation emanating gadgets. This can be a problem for its immediate environment.
SPECIFIC HEALTH CONCERNS

Cancer / Tumors
Studies have been conducted suggesting that rats that have been exposed to microwaves similar to the sort generated by mobile phones but more powerful, showed breaks in their DNA which could indicate an adverse effect. Also, mice exposed to radiation for 18 months developed brain tumors. Though of course, these studies are not concrete proof.

Blood Pressure
It was observed that people using cell phones were prone to high blood pressure. Again, there isn't any concrete evidence of the same.

Pregnancy
A study at the University of Montpellier in France was carried out on 6000 chick embryos and suggested that the heavily exposed chick eggs were five times less likely to survive than the control group. This study raised questions about possible effects on pregnant women but it has not yet appeared in peer-reviewed scientific literature or been reproduced, so its findings are difficult to assess.

Headaches, Heating Effects, Fatigue
A study brought out that longer the people used mobile phones, the more likely they were to report symptoms such as hot ears, burning skin, headaches and fatigue.
The study did not include a control group (that is people who do not use mobile phones, to make a comparison); therefore the symptoms reported could have been caused by any number of other factors in the mobile phones users' environment, such as working with computers, stress, driving or reading.

Memory
There have been various studies into the connection between mobile phones and memory loss. A study looked into the effect of radiofrequency (RF) on the section of rats' brains that is linked with the memory. The results showed that RF could modify signals in the cells in a part of the brain that is responsible for learning and short term memory.

Posture (holding phone between raised shoulder and ear)
Some researchers claim that holding a mobile phone between the raised shoulder and the ear could have a damaging effect on muscles, bones, tendons and discs. These problems would apply equally to a cordless phone or a landline phone as to a mobile phone and are the effect of bad posture.

Mobile Phones and Children
Because of their smaller heads, thinner skulls and higher tissue conductivity, children may absorb more energy from a given phone than adults.
PREVENTION TIPS

* Cell phones should be used for emergencies, and not for long conversations.
* A small chip-like cell phone microwave radiation protection device is available, which has the ability to absorb electromagnetic energy waves from your mobile phone. It helps in reducing the potential harmful effects of these emissions to the human body.
* Using a mobile headset is a good idea, you don't have to hold phones next to your ears all the time
* Use a hands free mobile car kit while driving, without taking your hands off the steering wheel

THE WHO (World Health Organisation) RULES

* Mobile phone users should limit their exposure to harmful radio frequencies by cutting the length of calls.
* Hands-free devices cut exposure by keeping the instrument away from the head and body.
* Driving cum mobile phone talking should be banned.
* Mobile phones should not be used in Intensive Care Units of hospitals as they can pose a danger to patients by interfering with the working of pacemakers and defibrillators.
* People with hearing aids should not use mobile phones.
* Base stations, which have low powered antennae on their terrace to communicate with cell phones, should not be located near children's schools and playgrounds.

CELL PHONES WHILE DRIVING
Studies indicate that a lot of car accidents have happened, while the driver was on the phone. This is because while driving, one obviously needs to concentrate, and talking on a phone doesn't help. Some countries like Portugal have banned the use of cell phones, which may not be very practical, as their main use is to be reachable while you are on the move. Thus, it is important to take certain precautions while driving:

* Position your phone within easy reach so that you don't have to take your eyes off the road.
* Get to know the features of your cell phone - speed dial, redial, voice mail, they can be your lifesaver. But don't dial and drive at the same time. Use a hands free kit.
* Avoid using a phone when road conditions are hazardous or traffic is heavy. You can let your voice mail take messages and then call back later.
* Don't engage in stressful conversations that may distract your attention from the road.
* Don't take notes or look up phone numbers whilst driving, wait till you can pull over.
* User abbreviated speed dialing. In fact, voice activated dialing is even better. It leaves both hands free. Frequently called numbers can be programmed.
* Have an answering machine installed that could take messages until you can return the calls. Let your co-passenger handle the calls if you are not travelling alone.
