‘The 2013 Human Development Report,’ published by the United Nations Development Program. The report recognizes Bangladesh as belonging to a group of ‘Highlighted 18′ countries that have made striking human development gains in recent years.
The Key points are the following:
According to the report, The number of students attending primary schools is increasing every year. In 2012, the mean years of schooling has increased by 2.8 years.
Bangladesh is also doing well in terms of women empowerment. While even a few decades ago women working outside home were a taboo, more and more women are now becoming economically self-sufficient.
Bangladesh’s success in improving maternal health and reducing child mortality, two of the eight millennium development goals, has been extraordinary.
According to the 2013 Human Development Report, between 1980 and 2012, Bangladesh’s life expectancy at birth increased 14 years, a notable achievement indeed.
The revenues earned and sent by the migrant workers make the largest portion of our national reserve of foreign revenues. As a result, the dependence on foreign aid in framing the national budget has reduced to a great extent.
