ALLAH: The most Beneficent & Merciful
Shamim Ansary:
Repent, For Allah is Merciful
This article is for you even if you do not consider yourself a "good" Muslim, even if you commit some of the major sins such as adultery. Indeed, this article is for you even if after coming to North America you have become a Hindu, Christian, communist or an atheist or you are married to one of these and you are letting your spouse raise your children as kafirs (non-believers, who are bent on rejecting God).
Whatever kind of person you have become after coming here, receive from Allah (God) and His Messenger the good news: Allah is most merciful and most forgiving and as more than willing to receive you back in His mercy. He says in Holy Quran:
"O those of My servants who have transgressed against your own selves, despair not of God's mercy. God does forgive all sins, for surely He is the most forgiving most merciful one." (39:53)
The relationship between you and your Creator is not such that once spoiled it has to stay spoiled. At any time we can turn to Him in repentance and make peace with Him. With repentance God washes our slates completely clean as if there was never any spot of sin on them.
If you take one step towards Allah, he will take two towards you. If you come to Him walking, He will come to you running.
Even though it would not harm Allah in the least if the whole of mankind abandoned faith and goodness, Allah is overjoyed when one of His servants, lost in faithlessness and sin, comes back to Him. Imagine a mother who has lost her baby in a crowd and is nervously searching for it. Imagine now her joy when she finds her lost baby. When a servant of Allah returns to Him after being lost in faithlessness and sin, the joy of Allah is more than seventy times greater than the joy of such a mother.
Now imagine a man traveling alone in a desert on a camel. He goes to sleep for the night and when he wakes up he finds his camel missing. He searches for his beast on foot for hours, during which time the sun warms up the desert, and thirst and hunger bring the man close to extinction. Just then he sees the camel walking towards him with water, food and other provisions. The happiness of God when a sinner returns to Him is like the happiness of this traveler at the moment he sees his lost camel.
Repent, therefore, to this loving and merciful Allah. But if you keep rejecting Allah's offer of mercy and forgiveness, then know that the judgment of Allah can come anytime. The same Allah that can be more loving than the most loving mother, also can at times be stricter than the most strict father.
Repentance does not mean being perfect. We can never be perfect since even prophets have at times made mistakes. Repentance means to abandon one's rebelliousness and arrogance before Allah and to stop deliberately disregarding His commandments without feeling any shame. Repentance means to humbly hope for the mercy of Allah and to fear His judgment while doing the best one can to fulfill divine wishes within the limits of one's human weaknesses.

Living Better Than Kings
By Wael Abdelgawad | IslamicSunrays.com
Be grateful for what you have.
There are people in this world in desperate situations: homeless, refugees, starving, traumatized by war, alone after losing their entire families. Help those people – then take a moment to thank Allah for what you have.
We live better than the kings and queens of the past. We have amenities that would have seemed like magic to them. Food from all over the world on demand, indoor plumbing, electricity, air conditioning, radio, TV, computers, internet, medical care, education…
These modern conveniences meet our physical needs, but they don’t fill our spirits. Be grateful to Allah for what you have, live simply, and don’t overload your soul with distractions. Focus on your relationship with Allah. Be at peace with yourself.
If your life is still lacking in some way, then make a change. Create a goal, and take a step. You have all the tools you need. Your most important tools are not tablet computers and smart phones. They are courage, faith, and the ability to say, “Yes! I am someone, I matter, and I will follow my dream.â€

Allah Prepared the Earth for Us
“As the pregnant mother excitedly prepares the cradle for the arrival of her new baby, Allah also prepared the earth for us before He sent Adam and Hawaa. He set all in place for us: the earth as a soft bed, the heavens as a canopy, the rain, the fruits, the stars, even companions and love. He (SWT) gave us everything we need to live and fulfill our needs. It’s truly amazing.â€

See the Beauty Around You
We tend to think of beautiful places as being far away. We imagine exotic lands like the Caribbean islands, the Mediterranean coast, the Alps or the Himalayas, or anywhere in New Zealand, ha ha.
There is glory everywhere. Right now, in this moment, there is something beautiful within the boundaries of your vision, or very near.
From where I am sitting, through the kitchen window I can see a rose bush. The pink roses are blooming and reaching for the sky, and it’s quite lovely ma-sha-Allah. I hear birds singing outside, and through the front window I see a birds of paradise bush, with it’s angular orange flowers.
Closer at hand, on my desk is a lovely ornate metal vase from Egypt. It is covered in intricate Islamic patterns with verses of the Quran twining around the sides. There are other beautiful works of art in the house if I take the time to glance around – including a simple artwork that my daughter Salma made by sticking different kinds of leaves to a sheet of paper.
Beauty can be found in ordinary things as well. On the kitchen counter I see two lemons cut in half, and beside them a boiled egg. It reminds me of an artist’s tableau and makes me wish I were a painter. My daughter is playing on the floor with her train set, and she is the jewel of my eye, ma-sha-Allah.
One of the reasons we fall into depression is that we focus on what we don’t have, or what we have lost; and we fail to see the blessings and beauty that surround us.
Right now, look around you. Quiet your mind, and focus on beauty. Remember that life is a gift, and a miracle, and a sign.
And the grazing livestock He has created for you; in them is warmth and [numerous] benefits, and from them you eat.
And for you in them is beauty when you bring them in [for the evening], and when you send them out.
And they carry your loads to a land you could not have reached except with difficulty to yourselves. Indeed, your Lord is Kind and Merciful.
And [He created] the horses, mules and donkeys for you to ride, and [as] adornment. And He creates that which you do not know.
And upon Allah is the direction of the way, and among the various paths are those deviating. And if He willed, He could have guided you all.
It is He who sends down rain from the sky; from it is drink and from it is foliage in which you pasture.
He causes to grow for you thereby the crops, olives, palm trees, grapevines, and from all the fruits. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who give thought.
And He has subjected for you the night and day and the sun and moon, and the stars are subjected by His command. Indeed in that are signs for a people who reason.
And [He has subjected] whatever He multiplied for you on the earth of varying colors. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who remember.
And it is He who subjected the sea for you to eat from it tender meat, and to extract from it ornaments which you wear. And you see the ships plowing through it, that you may seek of His bounty; and perhaps you will be grateful.
And He has cast into the earth firmly set mountains, lest it shift with you, and [made] rivers and roads, that you may be guided, And landmarks. And by the stars they are [also] guided.
Then is He who creates like one who does not create? So will you not be reminded?
And if you should count the favors of Allah, you could not enumerate them. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

Praising Allah: the Power of “SubhanAllah wa bihamdihiâ€
There are many hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) about the power of this phrase, “SubhanAllah wa bihamdihi“, which means, “Glory to Allah and praise Him.â€
1. Whoever says “SubhanAllah wa bihamdihi†a hundred times during the day, his sins are wiped away, even if they are like the foam of the sea. [Sahih al-Bukhari; #7:168, Sahih Muslim; #4:2071]
2. Abu Dharr reported that the Prophet (sws) said, “Shall I tell you the words that Allah loves the most?†I said: “Yes, tell me, O Messenger of Allah.†He said: “The words dearest to Allah are: subhanAllah wa bihamdihi.
3. A palm tree is planted for the reciter [of the above] in Paradise. [at-Tirmidhi; 5:511, al-Hakim]
4. The Prophet Muhammad (sws) said: “Two words (subhanAllah wa bihamdihi) are light on the tongue, weigh heavily in the balance, and are loved by the Most Merciful One.â€
Allah is so forgiving and gives us countless avenues to earn our forgiveness. Today, let’s have this phrase – subhanAllah wa bihamdihi – on our tongues, and let’s earn our forgiveness, and have entire groves of palm trees planted for us in Jannah, Insha’Allah.
