HISTORY OF CHELSEA FC
« on: June 08, 2013, 10:42:38 PM »
Despite being formed in 1905, Chelsea had to wait 50 years for their first major trophy, in the form of a 1955 league title.

A side featuring the talents of Ron 'Chopper' Harris, Ian Hutchinson and Peter Osgood defeated Leeds United to win the 1970 FA Cup, the first in the club's history.

The 1990s saw the arrival of Ruud Gullit who won the 1997 FA Cup as manager, and Gianluca Vialli repeated the trick two years later. Both came to the club as players before making their first strides into management at Stamford Bridge. The club's supporters had been starved of success for many years, but those lucky enough to have season tickets in the 1990s were privileged to be seeing the likes of Gianfranco Zola, Marcel Desailly and George Weah turning out at the Bridge on a weekly basis.

However, it was another 50 years until they would repeat their league title success, this time under the charismatic Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese tactician won back-to-back titles in 2005 and 2006, also winning the FA Cup, and League Cup twice.
