A technically gifted, attacking midfielder of Manchester Utd and Japan with excellent close control and passing ability, Shinji ended up with his third consecutive league winners’ medal, following two championship triumphs in Germany with Borussia Dortmund.

The Japan international arrived from the Bundesliga outfit in June 2012, agreeing a four-year contract to become United’s first Japanese player
