Eat cauliflower to ward off cancer
« on: July 14, 2013, 07:46:02 PM »
It's that time of the year when markets bloom up with the spongy, flowering vegetable — cauliflower. Though it belongs to the cruciferous family, cauliflower lacks the green chlorophyllfound in other vegetables like broccoli, cabbage and kale from the same family. Several researches on this flowery vegetable have revealed that it has compounds to resist cancer; it has the ability to eliminate cancer enzymes. But that's not the only healing quality that the cauliflower possesses. There's more:

Good for detoxification of liver
It contains glucosinolates and thiocyanates (including sulforaphane and isothiocyanate), which help to increase the liver's ability to neutralise potentially toxic substances that could lead to cancer if left unattended. The presence of enzymes like glutathione transferase, glucuronosyl transferase and quinone reductase also help in the detoxifying process.

Prevents cancer
Various researches involving humans as well as animals show that cauliflower helps keep off various kinds of cancers — lung, colon, breast and ovarian, with the most recent addition being bladder cancer.

It was found that the average daily intake of cruciferous vegetables was quite low in those with bladder cancer than the healthier control groups.

Shields against rheumatoid arthritis
Cauliflower, which is rich in Vitamin C, is said to provide a shield against inflammatory polyarthritis, a form of rheumatoid arthritis affecting two or more joints.
