Queen Elizabeth I - a male monarch!?

In his book, The King's Deception, published in March, Steve Berry - an American author proves that the Queen Elizabeth I, who ruled from 1558 to 1603, was not only an imposter, but male.

Berry claims the real Elizabeth died of fever when she was 10 years old. Her governess, Lady Kat Ashley, and guardian, Thomas Parry, were apparently responsible for replacing Elizabeth with a boy from the Cotswold village of Bisley, in Gloucestershire. King Henry VIII, who had barely seen his daughter and was already suffering from severe health problems of his own, was apparently fooled when he visited her.

Yes! I was surprised too! But you know, historians/researchers keep doing these things with us, muddling our perceptions with these new discoveries. You have debates about Shakespeare's existence too.

 BTW, Elizabeth is one of my favorite historical figures. She has this famous statement about herself, "I know I have the body of a weak, feeble woman; but I have the heart and stomach of a king, and of a king of England too" in a speech to the troops at Tilbury. Fascinating!

Interesting but I wonder how much non-political this course of change in history is! I like Elizabeth for her personal sacrifice; specifically for the part of damaging her marriage prospect and you know she claims herself to be married to England itself. But I admire her mother Anna Boleyn most- a key figure in the political and religious upheaval, who started English Reformation and made it all so easy for Elizabeth to be the Queen!

Every noble birth lies in a dark story. Elizabeth passed a very hard childhood and  bitter experiences formed her as strong figure. She was the daughter of Henry VIII.She was born into the royal succession. But her mother, Anne Boleyn, was executed two and a half years after her birth, and Elizabeth was declared illegitimate.She dedicated her whole life for the betterment of England.I just love her for everything she possessed. It sounds fascinating that she was a male. My feeling is that it is bit difficult to accept a female as a ruler ( i never intend to hurt male) in a male dominating society. Or it might happen that historians give color to draw attention on this issue, as they do in Shakespeare's issue.

Well Anne Boleyn helped with English Reformation but paying the price with her life - first English Queen to be publicly executed. But Elizabeth had the shrewdness to form her own life.

I read all the interesting information shared by you people regarding Queen Elizabeth I. The age of Queen Elizabeth was an age of thought,feeling and renewed vigour and determination. Above all it was an age of unbounded enthusiasm.

Dear Irina'pa,

I'm not convinced either. There are these researchers who enjoy at splitting hair rather than doing something more constructive.
What is important for us is to know the great impact of the age on the advancement of literature.
