Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) President Md Sabur Khan on Thursday invited Malaysian businessmen to import more from Bangladesh aiming to narrowing the trade gap between the two countries.

He also urged them to invest in the power and energy, leather, leather goods, food-processing, telecommunication and agro-based sectors considering the prevailing investment friendly environment in Bangladesh.

He said this at a meeting with the Associated Chinese Chamber of Commerce Industry, Malaysia (ACCCIM) in Malaysia Thursday.

Earlier a 10-member trade delegation of DCCI led by its President left the capital Wednesday for Malaysia to explore business opportunities and strengthen bilateral trade relation.

Mr Khan said that organisation like Expertise Resource Association (ERA) may be established in Bangladesh.

He said that business to business (B2B) interaction is the key to boost the bilateral trade. He also urged the Malaysian businessmen to import more from Bangladesh.

He expressed his intention to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with ACCCIM and ERA for mutual cooperation.

He also said that Bangladesh and Malaysia maintain a long-standing bilateral trade relation.

Executive Adviser of ACCCIM Tan Sri Dato' Soong Siew Hoong gave a multimedia presentation on Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

He stressed on strengthening activities of ASEAN as it was formed with a view to establish a single regional market and high competitive economic region.

Vice President of ERA Soo Cheong Futt said that ERA is an organisation of former managers and executives of companies and public services. Its purpose is to share their experience and expertise with the government of Malaysia.

After the meeting a fruitful Business to Business (B2B) match-making between DCCI delegation and members of ACCCIM was held.

At the B2B session, the Malaysian businessmen showed their keen interest to do business more with Bangladesh. They also expressed interest to do joint venture business with their Bangladeshi counterpart.

DCCI Director Abul Hossain and Co-convenor Kazi Sharwar Habib and Honorary Secretary of ERA Ng Koon Kow, among others, were present at the meeting.

Bangladesh exported products worth $100 million to Malaysia, including $69 million from readymade garment (RMG) sector while Malaysia exported products worth about $1.6 billion to Bangladesh during the fiscal year (FY) 2012-13.

The other members of the DCCI delegation are Director Abul Hossain, Co-convenor Kazi Sharwar Habib and its Members Md. Nurul Haque, Mohammad Shahidul Islam, Md. Monium Khan, Mohammed Irad Ali, Md. Kamruzzaman, Lokman Hossain and Syed Ashiq.
