India launches £29 tablet computer
« on: November 24, 2013, 02:05:58 AM »
It is the nation that produced the world’s cheapest car.

Now India is hoping to do for tablet computing what the Tata Nano set out to do for motoring.

A £29 device which has been dubbed the world’s cheapest tablet computer was unveiled today in Delhi — the cornerstone of a government scheme which ministers claim will help bring the technology into the homes of millions of poor schoolchildren in the country’s villages and urban slums.

The tablet, called Aakash, meaning “sky” in Hindi, will initially be manufactured in a pilot run of 100,000 units.
