10-square-kilometre mirror!!
« on: July 17, 2014, 03:41:12 PM »

This 10-square-kilometre mirror is made of salt. This natural wonder is covered by a thick salt crust that lies over a pool of brine that is rich in lithium, a metal. It’s believed that 50 to 70 percent of the world’s lithium reserves are stored here.

The salt flat was once part of Lago Minchín, a prehistoric lake that used to cover this area of Bolivia. When it dried up, it left this salt desert, which is one of South America’s most visited places.

Spanning 10,582 square kilometres and containing about 10 billion tonnes of salt, it's simply breathtaking.
