Why is Irish heroes are always anti-hero?

Heroes of Bernard  Shaw, John Millington Synge and Samuel Beckett most of the times seems to be anti heroes because of political unrest and struggling life of the Irish people.The heroes posses the tone of rebel and the air of air of antagonism towards everything just like the Irish people who are colonized .
While teaching Arms and the Man this question came into my mind.
