Doctors "functionally cured" a baby born with HIV.
(1/1)
riazur:
Researchers believe that starting an aggressive antiretroviral treatment within 31 hours of the infant's birth — an unusually early start for treatment — allowed the baby's body to fight off the HIV virus.
Now, at two-and-a-half years old, the child was found to have no signs of the virus in its bloodstream, even after being taken off drugs. A group of adults with HIV in France who started taking drugs very early on were also successfully taken off medication.
