1. Benefit by, not from.
Don’t say: She has benefited from the change.
Say: She has benefited by the change.
Note: কিন্তু যদি benefit এর আগে verb হিসেবে get/derive থাকে তাহলে benefit from বসে। Example: She got (or derived) much benefit from the change. (ভাল করে অর্থ খেয়াল করলে পার্থক্যটা বুঝতে কষ্ট হবে না।)
2. Boast of or about (দম্ভ/অহংকার করা), not for.
Don’t say: He boasted for his riches.
Say: He boasted of (or about) his riches.
Note: কোন কিছু নিয়ে অহংকার করা বোঝাতে boast এর সাথে of/about বসে, for বসে না।
3. Careful of (সতর্ক, মনোযোগী, যত্নবান), not for.
Don’t say: He is very careful for his health.
Say: He is very careful of his health.
Note: একইভাবে ‘take care of’ এর বেলায়ও এই বিষয়টি খেয়াল করতে হবে।Example: He takes care of his money.
4. Come or go by train, etc., not with the train, etc.
Don’t say: He came with the train yesterday.
Say: He came by train yesterday.
Note: যদি যাত্রার (journey) মাধ্যমের কথা বলা হয় অর্থাৎ কিভাবে journey টি করা হচ্ছে/হয়েছে/হবে তা বলা হয়, তাহলে যানবাহনের আগে by বসে। Example: by car, by bus, by train, by air, by sea, by tram, by boat, etc. কিন্তু পায়ে হেঁটে কোথাও যাওয়া বোঝাতে on foot বসে। আবার যানবাহনের ভিতরে অবস্থান করা বোঝাতে in/on বসে। Example: in a car, on a bus, in a bus, in a taxi, in a cab, in a carriage, on horseback, on a donkey, on a bicycle, in a motor-car, etc.
5. Complain of (অভিযোগ করা), not for.
Don’t say: Many people complain for the heat.
Say: Many people complain of the heat.
Note: কোন কিছু নিয়ে অভিযোগ জানানো বোঝাতে complain of/about বসে আর কারও কাছে অভিযোগ জানানো বোঝাতে complain to বসে। Example: You should complain to the police.
6. Composed of, not from.
Don’t say: Our class is composed from thirty boys.
Say: Our class is composed of thirty boys.
Note: composed of= গঠিত।
7. Confidence in, not to.
Don’t say: I have great confidence to him.
Say: I have great confidence in him.
Note: কারও উপর বিশ্বাস বা আস্থা রাখা বোঝাতে confidence এর সাথে in বসে, to বসে না।
8. Conform to (মেনে চলা, খাপ খাইয়ে নেয়া), not with.
Don’t say: We must conform with the rules.
Say: We must conform to the rules.
Note: কো্ন নিয়ম-নীতি বা এরকম কোন কিছু মেনে চলা বোঝাতে conform এর সাথে to বসে, with বসে না।
9. Congratulate on, not for.
Don’t say: I congratulate you for your success.
Say: I congratulate you on your success.
Note: কাউকে কোন কিছুর জন্য অভিবাদন জানাতে congratulate/congratulation এর সাথে on বসে, for বসে না।
10. Consist of, not from.
Don’t say: A year consists from twelve months.
Say: A year consists of twelve months.
Note: consist of – গঠিত হওয়া। consist in (consist in, lie in এবং inherent in অর্থ একই)- নিহিত থাকা। Example: True happiness consists in contentment.
